Nail Polish Subscription Box Review - Cult Cosmetics Black Box

The Cult Cosmetics Blackbox Nail Club is a new nail polish and nail art subscription box designed to send you everything you need for the latest nail looks. Each box includes new on-trend nail polish shades and tools for fun nail art designs!

Nail Polish Subscription Box Review - Cult Cosmetics Black Box

I found out about the Cult Cosmetics Blackbox Nail Club  about a week ago and decided to sign up since they were offering the first box at half off! (Thank you again to Larkin for letting me know about this new nail polish subscription box!) Good news - I just checked their site and the 50% off offer is still available!

Essie Nail Polish in Play Date - Value $8

Essie Nail Polish in Maximillian Strass Her - Value $8

Essie Nail Polish in Pansy - Value $8

3 full-sized Essie nail polishes in beautiful summer colors? I couldn't be happier with the nail polishes they added to this box! Plus, just with these items, the value of this box is already over what I paid for it!

MASH Nail Design Pen in Black - Value $6

This nail pen has good reviews, and I like that it's in a basic black color. I'm definitely new to nail art, so I think this is the easiest way for me to start embracing the trend!

Sponges and Glitter - Value $4?

They included a note recommending that you use these sponges for creating ombre and glitter effects. I have always liked the ombre nail polish effect, so I now have zero excuses not to try it!

Believe it or not, the glitter pot is completely shut and didn't arrive loose. I don't know how this glitter got everywhere! Glitter seems like it's impossible to completely clean up, so you may see a speck or two of gold glitter in upcoming subscription box review pictures! Plus, since I have lots of glitter polish (and just added some 4th of july glitter polish to my collection) I don't think I will be using this glitter pot anytime soon. If there's a benefit to using loose glitter over glitter polish - let me know!

Verdict: I'm really impressed with the value and curation of this box. I really like the Essie brand for nail polish, so those colors were spot on for me. I'll also use the nail pen and sponges. If I could change one thing about this subscription, I would love if they either included tutorial cards in the box or a link to video tutorials on cool nail art designs using the items in the box for that month. I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to nail art and need all the help I can get, plus I just like step-by-step videos even if my final result is never as great as the ending on the video! It looks like Cult Cosmetics does have video tutorials on some of their nail polish sets, so hopefully video tutorials for subscription box sets will happen soon! What do you think of the Cult Cosmetics Blackbox Nail Club?

I love this idea so much more than Julep. I got excited and ordered a year subscription to Julep last August and I can’t wait for it to be over. I think Julep is a great idea, but for some reason I am way more inclined to like Essie (and other “mainstream” brands).

I am going to try this box out, especially since it is 50% I hope I get Essies or another name brand.

Just ordered mine! I was waiting to see what yours looked like before I took the plunge. Thanks for posting!

Could you do color swatches too instead of just showing the polish bottle? Thanks!

Liz Cadman

Sure – what’s the best way to do that? A color swatch wheel?

Thanks!

Just of my Blackbox and I got almost the exact same colors as you, but slightly different shades. My nail pen doesn’t work, so I’ll be interested to see how their customer service department deals with that, as I’ve had both positive and negative experiences with subscription services.

I also wished to receive some sort of tutorial and mentioned that in my email.

Overall I was very happy with my box!

I love Julep. Like the idea of nail art though.

When I go to sign up it’s saying it’s $25, not half off! I was waiting to see how this one was once it was sent out, but I am in love. Essie is such a great brand and those are perfect seasonal colours. If you know what’s wrong with the promo code I would definitely be interested!

Hm – I can’t figure it out – there’s no promo code, but on the landing page it just says 50% off your first box, and you enter your email address. Maybe try it on a different browser?

Yup it worked this time! But now I have to decide if I want to break my no buy to subscribe haha. I really love the Essies you got, Essie in Canada is about $11 plus tax for one!
