Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August

Hazel Lane is a monthly subscription that curates boxes of varying, locally-sourced products from a different city each month, with a focus on chicness as well as social responsibility. They also donate 10% to a local charity in that month’s selected city!

Hazel Lane sent us this box for review purposes. (This is the Deluxe City box for ladies. They also have a gents option). (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Austin

This month the destination is Austin Texas. My husband and I went to Austin 3 years ago for SXSW, and we've been wanting to go back ever since - it is such a great city!

Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Napkins

Indigo Cloth Napkins - Value $25

These are beautifully dyed, and the fabric is a good heavy duty material. (This napkin set makes me wish I had a beach house! But then, most things do!)

Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Tattoos

Flash Tattoos - Value $22

Temporary tattoos have been popping up in subscription boxes this summer, and while I feel a little too old for the trend, I'm kind of in love with these metallic tattoos! (I love that they mimic jewelry).

Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Stubbs

Vinca Laser Cut Earrings - Value $16

Stubb's Bar-B-Q All-Natural Spice Rub - Value $7

We love Stubb's Bar-B-Q products, and this run is great for me since it's natural, gluten-free and the seasoning is sugar-free too. (Most barbecue sauces have a lot sugar, so this is a great way for me to get the taste without the sugar!)

Hazel Lane Deluxe City Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Captain

Work Like a Captain, Play Like a Pirate Print - Value $25

This print is cute (again makes me want a beach house), and I love that they use eco-friendly inks and materials.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $95. For the $70 a month cost of the Deluxe box, I think the value is really good, and the curation is fantastic. My only critique of this box is that it would have been a much more appropriate June box since so many of the items seem summer-inspired. What do you think of the August Hazel Lane box?

I just signed up last week for their 3 month sub via Gilt with Austin as my first month and if had paid $70 for this box I would have been supremely disappointed. As is, I’ll be paying roughly $40 for this box and I think that’s a great deal but I dislike that a quarter of the value of the box comes from temporary tattoos. I’m 29 and I feel like I’m too old for them too, but this is also a $70 frivolous subscription box. I feel like I would be their target demographic but temporary tattoos feel very cheap to me to be included in an more expensive box. I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake purchasing this because I’ve loved the other months that you’ve reviewed this company.

It is still in the high 90’s for Austin, Texas for a few more weeks. So, this box is so appropriate.

I’m missing an item from my box this month, and I didn’t receive the free gift in July. Not sure what’s going on…

Just following up ;). We figured out that Ashley got the Classic box this month and Liz got the Deluxe box. The Deluxe box had the addition of Flash Tattoos ;). Mystery solved.

Thank you all for being members and being patient while we transferred our inventory to our new warehouse. We are so lucky to have such a loyal following and want to let people know that we are just 2 gals (I’m a stay at home mom as well) who have a dream to connect people with amazing makers and cities across the country. We love supporting our fellow small businesses by purchasing their products for our boxes and try to curate boxes based on products recommended by locals themselves.
We hope you all get a chance to check out our site and city boxes 😉

With Love,
Ashley and Sam @HazelLane

I want to love this box, I love the idea behind Hazel Lane, but so far I don’t see any items I’m really loving for the price of the box.
