Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Tote Bag

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages - and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Jacket

Skies are Blue Shearling Sweater Jacket - Retail Value $98

Material Content: 100% Polyester

This is one of my two picks for the $149 tote. Normally with the $149 tote you get 4 surprise items in addition to your 2 picks, but since this jacket is a high cost, I only got 3 surprise items. (They let you know this upfront).

This jacket is lined throughout and super cozy - exactly what I was hoping for. (It's not easy to find something that both looks chic and is very cozy!) I sized down to a medium for this jacket since I have other Skies are Blue items in medium, and I'm glad I did.

Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Dress

Priddy by Puella Plaid Dress - Value $54

Material Content:37% Nylon 35% Rayon 20% Polyester 8% Spandex

This dress was my other pick for the month. The fabric has stretch and is really good-quality - you don't have to worry about any thin see-through fabric! I sized down in this as well since Puella and Priddy by Puella items seem to have a looser fit. Again, I'm glad I sized down, and I put this through the laundry and was able to get it to shrink a little more.

Something was seeming off about the look both on the dress form and on me. I realized the arms seem a little bulky/long for the look since it's all the same pattern. Fortunately the flip side of the fabric is solid black, so I solved that problem just by rolling up and cuffing my sleeves.

Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Sweater

Mak B Sweater - Value $45?

Material Content: 100% Acrylic

I love the burgundy/plum color of this sweater, and the open weave makes it perfect for layering:

It's also a high-low style that I like - which is pretty rare for me!

Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Green Top

Renee C Top - Value $40?

Material Content: 79% Polyester 18% Rayon 3% Spandex

This top was the item I was least excited about when I opened my tote, but after trying it on I think it will be the item I wear the most! It was a little large at first, but I was able to shrink it a little in the laundry, and it's still loose but drapes beautifully. I love the color too.

Golden Tote Review - November 2014 Back of Sweater

Fantastic Fawn Maxi - Value $60?

Material Content: 94% Rayon 6% Spandex

This maxi is so soft - I love it. I'm a little worried about washing it though - it's already on the shorter side for maxis. It's also lined!

Verdict: I had been eyeing that Skies Are Blue Shearling Jacket on PiperLime for at least a month, so I knew even my two picks alone this month would be worth $149 to me. And I'm really happy with my other three items - I'm five for five this month! What do you think of the surprise items? Did you order a November Golden Tote?

I got the bomber jacket and grey anorak. Added on the plaid dress. For my 3 surprises I got a fuchsia knee length dress that fits like a dream, the Henley shirt in Navy and a grey sweater with snowflake pattern lace down the sleeves. ICouldn’t be happier with my tote. It’s amazing and I can’t wait for next month!

I used to be the world’s biggest GT fan, but ugh, something’s going on with the sizes now and it’s SO touch-and-go for me.

I usually wear GT’s shirts, sweaters, etc. in M, but in my $49 Oct. tote, both my items – the peek-a-boo cardi and, as the “surprise,” the first kind of meh item I’ve ever gotten from them – the Not So Basic Buttondown shirt in brown – are both soooo tight on me. I won’t wear either and it’s probably too late for my always-procrastinating self to return that entire tote at this point. Those’ll probably both just end up going to charity.

I ordered the Nov. $149 tote (my first!) in early November and got it this week. (I noticed the items have changed now in the tote selections). I usually wear an S in GT’s dresses, but the Zippered Pocket Dress I chose is woefully tight (LOVE IT, though – might pay the $35 just to get it in the right size from the boutique), but the Damask Short Sleeve dress I also chose does fit and is super cute. As for the extras, I got the same Renee C top as you, Liz, and had the same reaction – not thrilled at first, but LOVE IT now! I also got the Fall Fever dress as an extra … but in M and sadly it looks like a tent on me. Also got the Lace Panel Pullover (love) and a wildly patterned top that’s a little out of my comfort zone – they both fit, at least. For the most part, I loved the $149 tote and wish I could afford to order it more often. The kind of inconsistent size thing makes it feel like such a risk, though.

I’m also too short on time to be a “swapper” – I never have time to go to a post office these days. :-\

I bought my first larger tote and I’m pretty please with it. My picks are the shearling jacket and the grey fringe long dress. My surprise items are a top, a dress, and a lace sweater, all size S. I was worried because I didn’t specify any style, and might get dud surprises. My sweater did have a snag, and I fix that, and it should be good. What I wish I know earlier is that I can specify the more specific sizes in the order comments. I think because my picks are size S (they didn’t have XS), all my surprises are size S too, so they are little big on me. I read that most of their items will shrink, and I’m sorta hopeful that it will, so that it fit me better 🙂

My picks are totally different and I’m hoping they fit I ordered a dress and a sweater I am an XS in GT and they only had S – that is why I didn’t order last month, they ran out of XS immediately. I had to give some items away because I loved what I got in the XS but the Smalls were way to big. I don’t want to give anything away, I need clothes. Offer more XS GT please!

I sized up to a large Pritty Plaid dress. I’m a true medium with big boobs. I didn’t what to take a chance of them getting squished. I’ll find out soon. Excited as it’s my favorite piece this month.

I can’t wait to get my first $149 tote! My label was created today but it’s still sitting there….so excited to see what’s in my tote! I let them know that I live in Phoenix, AZ, so I really can’t do heavy sweaters or crazy winter items. I would love to get that Renee C Top! I picked the Dinner Date Dress and the French Terry Drawstring Pant.

I wouldn’t wash that maxi! Rayon shrinks like crazy. I would probably dry clean it if it’s already short.

Sara

Rayon does shrink bad if you dry it, but I wash on cold and line dry Rayon and it doesn’t shrink.

Hmm.. I feel like the plaid dress looks a lot different in these photos than on the GT site. I’ll probably still love it, though. Cute long sleeved dresses seem hard to find (but maybe that’s just me) and it’s getting very cold outside! I can’t wait to get mine tomorrow! GT is a such a great little luxury; it gives me something to really look forward to each month and I just go to Target less to compensate for the cost. 😛

For anyone who couldn’t get the shearling jacket (I think it sold out on GT), Forever 21 has a very similar one on sale for $26. It’s only available in tan but it’s very cute in person. And super soft. I wish I could have snagged the blue one in my tote!

The shearling Jacket is still available on GT only in size small and medium. My GT should be here tomorrow. Cant wait to see what surprise items I get. This is my second totem last month was my first. I went with two jackets this time around, the Shearling and the Anorak in grey. I got the vegan leather coat last month and so far I love it. I’m very large chested and I got the Large with plenty of room so this month I sized down to a medium. Hoping everything fits. So far I’m Loving GT wish I had tried it out earlier. Yep I got the GT FEVER 🙂 🙂

GT FEVER is contagious! 🙂 I love that vegan leather jacket too! It is so well-made. Let us know what surprise items you get!

Arrrg. I found the shearling jacket on a site last week for 35.00. I almost grabbed it. Wish i had because it was the only thing in my tote that fit. So, i am sending it back. 🙁
