Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Info

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included. At the bottom of the card they also list: $7 donated, one meal provided, dozens of women employed & empowered. (They know how to make me feel good about a box before I even unbox it!)

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Change

Change for Change Jar - Value $18

The message behind this jar is pretty simple - fill this jar with spare change, and when it is full, "give it to a person or charity that needs it more than you do."

I like the idea a lot, and the Change for Change art on the bottle is nice too.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Scarf

fashionABLE Alem Scarf - Value $36

I think this scarf is gorgeous. It is very lightweight too, so it should work for all climates. Here's a better look:

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Wrap

This scarf is made in Ethiopia with 100% cotton. More on the fashionABLE organization:

Your purchase of a fashionABLE product creates sustainable business in Africa.  We are committed to long-term solutions to fighting poverty, and our main focus is creating opportunities for vulnerable women.  That means that your purchase creates jobs, so that the women are not dependent upon charity, but instead are a vital part of a developing economy.

So our strategy is two-fold.  We work with women to help them start small business cooperatives, and we partner with and require manufacturers to also employ women with fair wages & fair hiring practices.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Necklace

Matterial Fix Elephant Necklace - Value $44

This elephant charm on this necklace is made with 14K gold plated brass and clear cubic zirconia pave stones. Here is a photo to better show the length of the necklace:

And the detail:

10% of all proceeds from jewelry Matterial Fix jewelry sales go to the Freedom Firm. More on this organization:

Freedom Firm is a non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate child prostitution in India. They rescue young girls from brothels, provide effective rehabilitation, and assist with the prosecution of sex trafficking offenders.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Pouch

Sseko Half Moon Clutch - Value $16

This item is described as a clutch on the info card, but I think size-wise I would describe it as a pouch. (The zipper part measures 7 inches to give you a better sense of size).

I love the black and metallic mix of materials, and will be throwing this in my purse to keep it a little more organized!

More about Sseko:

Sseko Designs is an ethical fashion brand that hires high potential women in Uganda to make sandals to enable them to earn money through dignified employment that will go directly towards their college educations and ensure they will continue pursuing their dreams. To date, we've enabled 47 women to continue on to university. We currently employ 50 women in Uganda from all walks of life. We believe that every woman has a dream. When she is given the opportunity to pursue those dreams, we are collectively walking towards a brighter and more just and beautiful world.

In addition to our work in Uganda, we design and source ethically made products from East Africa. We believe that good business can be an incredibly powerful force for positive social change. Sseko products are all made in Africa and create jobs, empower artisans and help end the cycle of poverty by building healthy communities and economies.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Cards

Gramr Gratitude Co. Thank You Card Set, Sealing Wax, and Wax Press - Value $43

I received a similar set of cards from Gramr Gratitude in the Fall FabFitFun VIP Box, and I already used them, so I'm happy to have more.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Stickers

Sevenly Sticker Pack - Value $7

I never get too excited about stickers in subscription boxes, but I can see how these fit in with the box.

Cause Box Subscription Box Review - Winter 2014 #CAUSEBOX01 Snacks

Sweet Riot Dark Chocoalte Covered Cacao Nibs with Espresso - Value $4.19

This Bar Saves Lives - Value $2.69

Sweet Riot is a women-owned company with a commitment to fair trade practices. (Check out their social mission page to learn more). And for every This Bar Saves Lives bar sold, one meal is given to a child in need.

Verdict: I think this is such a wonderful and unique subscription - it's a great way to support causes around the globe and also get a box full of wonderful items. I'm also particularly happy about the focus that so many of the featured companies have on helping and empowering women.

The items themselves are all well-made too. I will wear the necklace, scarf and pouch, so I definitely got my money's worth as well.

What do you think of the first CAUSEBOX?

Liz – I was looking for spring spoilers and saw that they posted on instagram that the last day to order the spring box is Feb 18th. They also are now shipping to Canada.

Did your box arrived? I haven’t received a tracking number yet.

PA Anna

I was billed today.

Laurie

I thought this was a fabulous box and am tempted to spring for a year. I think the elephant necklace is my favorite, but there’s another item in there that’s perfect for storing jewelry in my purse. Really well done!

I am so happy that I chose to subscribe to the Causebox! I absolutely love that each item has a story behind it and that my purchases from the companies highlighted will directly help a woman around the world. When I need to purchase a gift I will refer to the insert (which I’m going to save) and buy from one of these companies.

When I first saw the elephant necklace I thought that it wouldn’t be something I would wear. After reading that proceeds from this necklace help Freedom Firm rescue and restore girls in India effected by sex-trafficing, well I KNEW I would wear it for sure. When someone asks me about it, I have the opportunity to share this information.

Thanks Causebox!

I love what they wrote at the end of the spoiler email. I tried to cut and paste it into this email and can’t. I wrote it out here because I do think it is great.

“$166.87 worth of socially conscious products
+
$7.00 donated to a charity of your choice
+
ONE MEAL for a child in need
+
HELPS EMPLOY and empower dozens of women”

I liked all the items. It’s easy to get caught up in boxes, items, values etc. I like how they explained who we are helping by purchasing these products and am glad Liz included it in the post.

I gave the scarf, which was named after the woman who made it, to my sister. I thought it was well-made. The pictures do not do it justice. The craftmanship on the clutch is excellent. The meaning behind the necklace makes it a special item. The cacoa nibs are long gone 🙂 I can always use more thank you cards and will give the bar to my sister since it is gluten-free.

My favorite item is the Change for Change jar. The boys and I have saved change in the past and cashed it in for gift cards to help those in need. This is a big deal to them with picking out the gift card and the recipient . We’ve been using a mason jar and now have a special jar with a reminder of why we are doing this written on the jar. We also enjoyed the stickers and selected ones to put in different rooms.

Looking forward to the next box!

You’re a brave mom with the stickers, lol. I still wouldn’t turn my kids loose in the house with them and the youngest is 10!

Happy with the variety of items, would have been happier if I would have not gotten the Gramr Gratitude Co. Thank You Card Set, Sealing Wax, and Wax Press in FFF Spring or was it Summer box – Cant remember, just remember swapping it. The necklace is pretty. I normally don’t wear gold jewelry yet when I noticed this as a spoiler I ended up going on ebay and looking for an elephant purse that would match. I like the idea behind the jar. The change purse is cute. Looking forward to receiving my cause box in the next few days. – It’s unique, and it is so nice not to see any makeup or beauty products in a box for a change. A subscription I’ll be keeping.

So happy I took a chance on this. I think I’m going to spring for a yearlong subscription.

I loved this box – everything in it was so thoughtfully chosen and I really appreciated that every item supported a unique cause.

The Gramr cards and wax set were my favorite item in the box. I have always wanted one of those wax sealers but never bought one for myself. I also loved the change jar, what a cool item to include!

I think this is going to be one of my favorite boxes, they really hit it out of the park.

This is such a great box and I think it’s awesome to support fair trade practices and organizations that give women fair employment opportunities. If they start shipping to Canada I will buy subscribe in a heartbeat. Great review Liz.

My husband called CAUSEBOX/Sevenly and spoke to Michael. He said they have a couple thousand left. M husband asked when he thought they’d sell out. Michael said, “We have over 2000 left. We don’t sell out very quickly. They won’t be sold out by the end of the week and if you place an order then, you’ll receive the December box”.

Erica

I just called their customer support with the same question (before I saw this comment), and it was a different person than Michael who said they’re actually getting a surge of subscribers after they did their reveal this morning.. it definitely didn’t sound like they have very many left.. I just got one! Thanks for the update about Christmas shipping Liz!

Thanks for letting us know!
