Ipsy Review – February 2015 Serum

Mitchell and Peach Floral No. 1 Fine Radiance Face Oil - 10 ml Value $23

eva nyc Up All Night Volumizing Spray - 1 oz Value $1.50

I was excited to try this face oil since the ingredients are advertised as all natural, and the size is half the size of the full-size version. I was surprised to see that the ingredients listed on the bottle don't match up with what is listed on ipsy's site, or any shop listing I could find for this product. The main difference I noticed was that my bottle lists Parfum (synthetic fragrance) as an ingredient, where the ingredients listed online list various natural oils. In general I try to avoid added synthetic fragrance in skincare products since my skin is somewhat sensitive, so this was a disappointment. (I'm also wondering why ipsy has samples with a different formula that what is normally sold from this brand).

That being said, I still wanted to try out the oil. It absorbs quickly and is very moisturizing, so I'm happy with that part of the formula. I'm not sure if I love the scent though.

I do like the scent of this volumizing spray! The scent is fresh, and the formula is lightweight. Plus it can work on damp or dry hair.

Ipsy Review – February 2015 Blush

City Color Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini - FULL SIZE! Value $5

Model CO Cosmetics Blush Cheek Powder in Cosmopolitan 01 - .12 oz Value $9? (I can't find the size of the full size version online, so I'm assuming this is half the size).

This lip stain is highly pigmented and gives a matte finish. The formula is good, but this color isn't a good look for me.

While I'm not sure how the size of this blush compares to the full-size version, the sample will last me a long time. It's very highly pigmented which means I only need one sweep of the brush for full color!

Ipsy Review – February 2015 Eyelash

Emite Makeup Eyelash Curler - Value $25

I always like getting makeup brushes and tools in subscription boxes, so this eyelash curler is a win.

Verdict: This bag has a value of about $63.50. The value is great for the $10 cost. While I won't use every item in the box, I still will use enough to make this bag a good deal for me, so I'm happy with the February ipsy bag. (Plus I think the makeup bag is cute this month too!)

What do you think of the February ipsy bag? Which items did you get?

I just got the March Ipsy bag for March and I am very happy. First of all I love the bag this month. It looked like a watercolor of flowers and got you in the mood for Spring. It also had a little of everything from butter lipstick to Acure face cream that smells like clementine oranges.

I got the lip gloss and was not happy with it all… the color was ok, but the finish was weird and super drying. Meh, I’m always up for trying new things, but that wasn’t my fave. On the other hand, I also received the blush, face oil, china glaze glitter polish, and volumizing spray, all of which I really like!

actually the eva nyc is $10 for a 1oz bottle on their website 🙂

I have cancelled my Ipsy subscription and instead have moved on to better things.

I think that Ipsy’s product’s have really depreciated. I explicitly did not select “brushes” on my personalized quiz and without fail they have mailed me some sort of brush every single month.

I do like to try new things, but I find that most of the time Ipsy has a lot of “no name” brand things or things I have never even heard of. And besides this month, I find that the bags are just getting more and more unappealing.

I just can’t justify spending the money on this every month, even if it’s just 10 dollars when a lot of the items end up on my swap profile.

I have moved on to GlossyBox and am considering going back to birchbox. I got a 20% off coupon for glossybox and did their annual subscription making each box roughly $15 a month. I think that getting full sized items will be more worth it for me. We shall see how that pans out!

Happy subscribing guys!

Just received my bag today and I’m SO glad I canceled. I had redeemed my points for the lipstick in Bordeaux and instead of getting that they sent me some random eyeshadow by ‘tini beauty. It really annoyed me that they couldn’t even get that right. They should have procedures in place in case they can’t send the actual product, not send some random junk in place.

Lisa, I’ve had that lipstick up for swap for a few weeks and haven’t had a request for it. My email is on my website (linked to my name in this comment). Send me your address and I’ll mail it to you!

This wasn’t my absolute favorite month for Ipsy but I don’t think it was a bad month at all. I pretty much like all of the products and I really love the hair volumizing spray. I didn’t realize that it was a multi-tasking product and can also be used as a heat protector, but when I first tried it out I instantly loved the scent and I really like how it gave me volume without weighing my hair down the way some other volumizers tend to do.

Ipsy actually forgot to add in my fifth product, the ModelCo blush. I e-mailed them and they got back to me right away and said they were going to send the blush out to me. I remember I had to deal with IpsyCare for another issue awhile ago (maybe a year or so ago) because I had a broken blush or bronzer and they also replaced that right away. So Ipsy does have great customer service! I was really happy about that 🙂

The February bag is cute. I do prefer a zipper on the top rather than in the front though. I was happy to see a nail product China Glaze, but wasn’t thrilled with the glitter top coat. I would have preferred a color. I received the same lip stain and the color works well for me. I also received the face brush other mention and the Blush in a color that works for me. My last item was two packets of Glamglow Brightmud eye treatment. I haven’t tried it yet, but was happy to get it. I have been receiving Ipsy for six months now and have been happy with the matches . I didn’t have hardly any products, when I started, so this has been a great way to try new things.

I see lots of people commenting that they’re unhappy with the lip stain color they received this month. I guess I got lucky and received something different than most. I got a Cargo lip gloss in a pretty baby pink color called Anguilla. I’m 58 years old so my lips have thinned a lot and I can’t wear the super bright or deep colors. I’m so happy I lucked out!

Hmm. Like many others, I also received the same five products. They were not right for me. Other than the eyelash curler (which I unfortunately already have – same model exactly), the other four items are inappropriate for me based on my profile. For example, I have thick, curly, frizzy hair. Why would they send me volumizer? I need a smoother! My profile also states I have oily skin. So they send me face oil?!?

Last month, not a single thing was appropriate, so at least there is progress.

I got these :

Mini Lip Gloss by CARGO Cosmetics
Up All Night Volumizing Spray by Eva NYC
Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask by Hey Honey
BLUSH Cheek Powder by ModelCo
Natural Eye Liner Pencil by “Pencil Me In” Cosmetics

So I don’t think my value was the same as yours. However, I love the mask, and the blush works perfectly for my skintone to contour, and I am really happy with all of it!

mine sat in southern CA for almost a week and DHL had a message that shipments may be delayed due to weather. Well, I live in WA and there has been no inclement weather at all anywhere along the west coast (totally pathetic snowfall over here!)… tracking says I should finally receive it by Friday. terrible shipping this time! Maybe something similar happened for you?

I got the exact same 5 products! This NEVER happens!! I like the blush (probably my favorite item in the bag). I don’t like the lip stain – the color is good on me but the formula doesn’t last (wore off in 90 minutes) and it’s kind of gritty. I love getting tools in boxes so I’m happy with the eyelash curler (haven’t tried it yet). Neither the oil nor the hair spray are types of products I normally use. I seem to get a hair product every month from Ipsy but hardly ever use them. This box was okay although I liked my Jan bag better.

I should have kept it sealed so I could swap it, but I had to try the lip stain! I love all lip products (well, I guess not all). The color is yucky ultra-pink. I’m a 44-year-old woman, so just…bad. Also, the formula is very thin, so the hyper pigmentation shows off every line. Chapped lips just look super nasty in this stuff. Ugh. Stains are my favorite thing, but that’s because they LAST. 90 minutes does not a stain make!

I took the month of January off from Ipsy as I was not thrilled with my first four bags. A few items were hits, many were misses. This month I hope I will get the brush, the facial oil and no perfume or eye shadow.

Leah Dait

OMG! I received exactly all 5 products listed here! Awesome review!… (^,^)

Beckyloo

I got the same 5 products as well. I found that the lip stain was terrible thought. It was not a stain; it had no holding or staying power on my lips. Very disappointed with it.

Mara

I got the same blush as you, a Cargo lipgloss in a ballet pink shade, China Glaze nail polish (full size) in a sparkly purple “marry a millionaire” color, the no. 1 fragrance–not my favorite scent but a super cute baby rollerball applicator, and the hair volumizer. Overall, I’m pleased. The nail polish is definately a little out of my comfort zone, but will make a great Spring pedi. I love China Glaze products and the bag is really cute!

This month my bag included the First Love perfume oil (smells nice), Medusa eye shadow (the color is amazing, not as shimmering as pictured) the peach colored blush, the face oil (absorbs nicely into my extra oily skin), the blush brush, and a real techniques liner brush that I redeemed with my points. My only disappointment was that the blush brush was not in my package…but IPSY care is sending me one after I contacted them. Over the months, I have actually ended up liking almost all of the products that I receive from IPSY….sometimes even the ones that I was not originally excited about. I’ve done the initial profile survey and make sure to honestly review all of my product samples and I must say…they are getting better at pairing me with the various sample selections. I never receive anything that is just a total waste or unusable and the odd/different items that I receive here and there are great because it gives me a chance to try new things that I may have never considered. Don’t give up

I’m pretty excited for my bag which is due to arrive tomorrow. I am receiving 3 of the same items, the lip stain, volumizing spray and blush (not sure which color), I am also getting the Tini Beauty eyeshadow and Anti-aging facial mask which I am excited to try 😀

emma

Did everyone who got the eyelash curler receive replacement pieces too?

Reply ButtonReply

Patti

I received three extra.

Lisa

I’m getting the same bag and honestly, I’m not all that excited. I actually just spent my points and then canceled Ipsy after this month’s bag shipped out. The last 6 months I haven’t been excited about my ipsy bag at all and was tired of wasting my money.

They did try and entice me into changing my mind by letting me know about a few brands that will be making an appearance soon. the Balm and Urban Decay being the only two I remember.

This is my first Ipsy box. I got different products.
I got a purple eye pencil, angled brush (It’s pretty nice), Cargo lip gloss in Anguilla, Up All Night spray (might like it), and a 3.6 g Model Co powder blush in Peach Bellini.
I’ll be putting some things up for my first swap.

I got the same bag as you. I’m not excited about anything but the facial oil and bag itself. I was also concerned about the fragrance noted on the facial oil, and researched the ingredients on the company’s website. I believe the fragrance is their Floral No. 1 scent, which is all natural. I really like the fragrance, and it moisturizes my combination skin really well with no irritation.

Reply ButtonReply

Patti

I received the exact same products. My Eva NYC spray arrived spilled out into the bag, ruining the bag and emptying the contents of the spray but I really like the previous Eva product I received from Ipsy and I’ve heard they’re great about replacing damaged products so I’m not too worried about that. I will say the packaging for the spray was very porly made which is what caused the leak. The rest of my products weren’t affected. I really like the eyelash curler and blush but, like Liz, the lip color and formula are not for me. Also, when taking the quiz, I informed Ipsy I have oily skin so why they’d send me a face oil, I am not sure. The bag this month is adorable, I hope Ipsy will replace that too as it’s soaked/stained with the Eva spray.

Reply ButtonReply

Beckyloo

Count me in too among the ladies who had leaked Eva spray. I wasn’t so disappointed about losing the spray as the messed up bag. I’ll have to try contacting Ipsy about it.

Reply ButtonReply

Patti

Just an update that Ipsy immediately addressed my issue very quickly and kindly. Replacing not only the product and bag but sending me an extra sample to boot! Best customer service in the beauty box biz!

Joanna

I have oily skin too and I learned from research that some oils in fact help oily skin. Sometimes our skin produces too much oil since we are stripping away natural oils and things like tea tree oil can actually help with oily or acne prone skin. I’m still wary of it because I’m afraid that I’ll breakout really badly but it’s worked for many people. I know it sounds weird that oil can help oily skin but it does make some sense when you think about it xD

Reply ButtonReply

Patti

I have heard that too but this specific product does not seem to be meant for those with oily skin.

Robyn Pollman

I got the same bag as well, and like you I have oily skin listed and shook my head that I got face oil. No matter how many times they tout Ipsy Match, it’s a complete joke. The answers are never the same from CS agent to CS agent as to why certain profiles get certain products, even when discussing the same bag. I put the entire bag + contents up for swap. Only the second time I’ve done that in about 18 months.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

Actually, just because you have oily skin does not preclude you from using a facial oil as a moisturizer. It depends on the formula and using it correctly, but many have found that it’s actually ‘the answer’ to the body pumping out too much oil.

Ashley

My bag did the exact same thing! The Eva spray leaked all over. I was disappointed, so I contacted them. They’ll replace any damaged item in your bag! They’re sending me a new Eva Spray and a new bag.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I got the same Model CO blush, which I like, Cargo lip gloss in Anguilla, makeup brush, Hey Honey take it off mask, and Rob Scheppy for Tini Beauty eyeshadow in Pearl Fizz. I changed my beauty profile 2 months ago and I feel the bags have gotten a little better for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

I got the exact same items that you did. I was also really disappointed to see “perfume” listed in the ingredients. I already have a nice eyelash curler (which I never use, anyway), the blush and lip stain are totally wrong for my complexion. The only thing I’m even remotely happy with is the hair product; it smells so good! All in all, this month was a big fail for me, and I’ll be looking to trade the whole bag.

Reply ButtonReply

valerie

I got the same contents as you this month. I was not excited when I saw it in my glam room but based on your review it may be alright. Not excited about yet another lip gloss. I agree with you about getting tools, I don’t have an eyelash curler so that plus the blush will make the bag worth it for me.
