Ipsy Review – May 2015 Package

Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Items

The Subscription Box: Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products. (Plus a makeup bag!)

Ships to: US and Canada

Delivered via: USPS

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Bag

Each month you get a makeup bag with your subscription. I really like the design this month! And I love the canvas bag is lined with a nylon interior making it easy to clean.

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Oscar

Luxie 205 Tapered Blending Brush - Value $12

I love getting makeup brushes in subscription boxes! This brush is very soft, and it gets bonus points for being cruelty-free!

Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture & Volume Spray - FULL SIZE! Value $24

I can't believe they sent the full-size version of this spray! I've sampled the travel size versions before thanks to a few subscriptions, and it is a great volume spray.

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Jessies

NUXE Face Cleansing and Make-Up Removing Gel - .5 oz Value $1.40

I've sampled NUXE products before thanks to Birchbox, so I'm guessing I'll like this cleanser. (I can already tell I like the scent).

Jesse's Girl Pure Pigment Eye Dust in Brown Sugar - FULL SIZE! Value $5

I was happy to see that this eyeshadow has an almost matte finish (not much shimmer). I have a ton of shimmery eye shadows in this shade, so at least this keeps it different and good for everyday makeup looks. (I've swatched it below).

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Lip

Urban Decay Revolution High Color Lipgloss + Ozone 24/7 Glide-on Lip Pencil - Value $17

This lip gloss gives a ton of pigment and shine. It's almost pretty long lasting - I tried out the purple Bittersweet shade, and my lips are still purple after eating dinner. (Also - who knew I would like purple lipgloss? It's a bold look for me, but I think I'll try to find a similar shade in a lip product that is a little more sheer).

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Urban Decay

I'm impressed with the size of the Ozone 24/7 lip liner - it is 3/4 the size of the full-size version. It also glides on easily just like the name claims!

And here are swatches of the lipgloss colors and the eyeshadow:

Ipsy Review – May 2015 Swatch

(It took some work to get those urban decay glosses off my wrist!)

Verdict: This month's Ipsy has a value of about $59. I think that's incredible for a $10 a month subscription, and I still can't believe I got a full-sized Oscar Blandi product! I think I'll use everything included, and the purple lipgloss pushed me out of my makeup comfort zone in a good way!

What did you get from Ipsy this month?

This was my second box and I’m pretty happy. I like the bag but it suits my sister much more so Im giving it to her. I got the Chella brow pencil which also goes to my sis. Jesse’s girl shadow, nice color. The hair oil which I am excited to try. The company is new to me but based on their principles Ill be looking possible purchase from them. The NUXE cleanser which smells nice and the most exciting thing for me the UD sample/liner set! I think the size of the gloss samples are pretty big. Two months and Im happy with both. #lifer!

Ipsy blows the doors off no matter what you get in your bag I think. I love to buy clear bags on amazon and put the crinkle paper that comes in beauty boxes in the clear bags then put in some of the items that I want to give as gifts in the bags and put pretty ribbon on it and put in my gift closet. People LOVE these little gifts from me. I dont like purple, so I put the purple lipstick, eyeshadow, black eyeliner and mascara in one bag as an example and give to my hairdresser for Christmas, she loves purple. So its such a great and expensive gift really with the true prices of the regular size items if you don’t wish to keep them…just an idea. Other wise, it has opened my eyes to how many new products are out there that are wonderful to try, and for ten dollars its such fun and truly a great value. I love Ipsy!

What a great idea!! my niece loves to play with makeup, so I will be doing this for her upcoming birthday 🙂

I got the exact same contents. I was floored when I looked up the price of the Oscar Blandi volume spray on Amazon. Wow! I was really excited to try everything, though I’m still wary of that purple lip gloss. The bag itself is cute, but I will likely give it to my tween niece. This was my second glam bag and I’ve been very pleased so far.

this looks like an awesome bag ! love the full size OB!

@allcapsERINN

I would kill for your bag. I’ve been dying to try that Oscar Blandi spray and, dang, I can’t believe they sent a full-size sample! SO JEALOUS.

I got YET ANOTHER “who-cares” black eyeliner pencil, some leave-in conditioner that leaves my hair feeling greasy, the eyeshadow brush and the Urban Decay stuff. I may be forgetting something – if so, it obviously wasn’t memorable. Maybe a perfume sample. I feel kind of like I got all the junky leftovers they had lying around. Maybe I need to tweak my beauty profile.

This was the first time an Ipsy bag really disappointed me, but you still can’t beat the fun for the price. I’ll probably be a loyal subscriber until they go out of business.

The more I go back and tweak my profile, the better stuff I get! Also, review your products. I think that helps even more

I was very happy with ipsy this month! I received the Klorane eye patches, the makeup brush (I have a nicer metal one I received previously from ipsy, but this one will live in my traveling makeup bag), the UD lip stuff (I have purchased this lip pencil before and love it), the very small SPF, and the full-sized Chella eyebrow pencil. I was thrilled!

What I am most pleased about, however, was ipsy’s response to my receiving the eye primer last month that so many said had mold. They sent me an email (generic) as I had received the mica eye primer in my bag. I did t really notice anything wrong with mine, but I was uncomfortable using it and told them that. I also said I loved the rest of my bag last month– particularly the red Elizabeth Arden lipstick. They said they would send a replacement product and sent a tracking number. Imagine my surprise when I got the package to find a full-sized Oscar Blandi heat protection spray AND a second Elizabeth Arden lipstick! Yay ipsy!

This is my 2nd Ipsy bag. The cosmetic bag is so cute.
My bag had:
Luxie brush – LOVE it!
Two sets of Klorane eye patches – Looking forward to trying these.
Glamglow Face Cleanser – I’m excited to try this.
Briogeo Hair Conditioning Spray – I’m in love with this product
Pixie by Petra Bronzer – It looks like it maybe full size

I received in my Ipsy bag this month:
*Bella Pierre Gel Eyeliner Pencil No. 002 “Ebony” full size
*St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion 1.69 oz tube
*Sebastian Stylbrid 9 multi-benefit hairspray 1.55 oz can
*Briogeo Rosarco Milk reparative leave-in conditioner 1 oz pump bottle
*Urban Decay Glide-On Lip liner pencil “Ozone” clear &
2 tiny foiled sample lip color pots: purple & pink

I rarely use hairspray, have tons of leave-in conditioner, the St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion is very generously sized, but way too dark for me…..maybe later in the summer when I get my natural “gardeners tan” I can use this to embellish it.

I like the eyeliner & will use that & it will be fun to experiment with the UD liner. That purple lipgloss color is very bold!

This was definitely a summer-themed bag and I’m happy with it. I sub to several other boxes and any time one of my boxes DOESN’T include a mascara, sea salt spray or dry shampoo powder is a win for me.

I got this box for my teen daughter and this was her first Ipsy box. She would have liked more makeup, but she was very happy with it – in particular with the makeup bag. She got:

– GlamGlow Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser
– Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing All Over Toner (good for acne)
– It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50 (worked well)
– Balanced Guru organic farm Style Me hair oil
– theBalm NUDE ‘dude Eyeshadow

The value was around $30, but more importantly, my daughter was more than $10 happy with it. But she really loved the makeup bag.

I wish I had the Nuxe product instead of the sunscreen.
I got the brush, UD pencil and gloss, full size eyeliner, cleanser, and tiny sunscreen sample. Still a good month for Ipsy!

Hey Liz;

We received the same Ipsy and Birchbox this month. How odd but cool because these were both really nice. 🙂

Box twins! 🙂

I received UD lip gloss, Jesse’s Girl eye dust, Nuxe cleansing gel, Chella eyebrow pencil and BalancedGuru hair oil. I would have loved to get the OB spray but I was happy with all the items in my bag. Can’t wait to try lip gloss. Tried hair oil and cleansing gel and loved the scent on both. I’m always impressed with the bag that’s included each month and being only a sub for three months, I’m excited for things to come in my Ipsy bag! 🙂

Luxe brush
Glam glow
Petra bronzer
Milk conditioner
Eye patches – not paraban free
I’m glad it wasn’t lotions or eyebrow stuff. Lol! I subbed for a year, so looking forward to future bags!

I’m always floored when I see people getting bags in the $50+ value range, when mine have been consistently in the $30’s to low $40s and still not good matches for me. I’ve been a subscriber for over 2 years and it was really fun at first and then got a lot less fun when they started with all the variations. Now that a bunch are repeating it must be even harder for them to give me a good match. It’s time to say goodbye. Farewell, IPSY.

Laura

I’m always floored when I see other people’s bags having values in the $50+ range. Mine tend to be in the $30-$40 range consistently and are often a poor match for me. I think it’s getting even harder for them to match me well since they are starting to repeat a lot of items I’ve received before limiting my bag choices. I’ve been a subscriber for over two years. I’m pretty sure I’ll be unsubscribing this month making it my last. It was really fun at first, but I’m moving on. farewell, IPSY.

Chelsea C

I received Pixi bronzer, UD lip stuff, bellapierre eyeliner, Peter Lamas facial cleanser, and Caviar CC Hair Creame.

I was really content with what I got in my bag this month! This is probably my favorite bag I have received in the past few months. I’ve dropped almost all of my subs, and Ipsy is one of the only two beauty subs I’ve kept. I feel like every month I get something fun and new to try, and the value is always there!

One of my bags was exactly the same as yours. For the first time in months I can honestly say I will use everything in it!!! Enjoy yours!!

ayla b.

I received the same as Connie. I love everything and was psyched to have a brush.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie T.

I received the exact same products as Liz, except for the eyeshadow. I got the Balm Nude Dude eyeshadow in Flirty(it’s a really pretty purple with gold shimmer). I love the citrusy scent of the Oscar Blandi spray. Nothing leaked in my bag, but that Nuxe cleanser has a very strong scent. I could smell it before fully opening my envelope. I love the UD pencil and lipgloss shades, but wish they were packaged differently. I like getting brushes in subs, but this one is similar to several others I already have.

I had cancelled last month just because I hadn’t been crazy about the last few bags. This month’s bag is super cute instead of the ugly or plain vinyl or woven bags of past months. The full size product would be awesome. I love the purple urban decay might just have to pick that one up.

Tamara

Ipsy’s been kinda knocking it out of the park lately! I was ready to cancel, but these last two it three months have been pretty impressive.

I can’t believe you got a full size Oscar Blandi either!! Awesome! 😀
