There are a lot of post-its in this!

Jeremy Lin Quarterly Subscription Box Review #LIN01 Pumbaa

POP Pumbaa - Value $10

We're always excited to see a POP in a subscription box! This one has a very specific meaning to Lin, so I'll quote his letter again:

Post-game is all about refueling. This year I've really gotten into cooking and I spent a lot of post-games in my kitchen cooking healthy post-game meals for my friends and family. I've included POP Pumbaa to represent these kitchen sessions. I love Pumbaa for his personality and his ability to eat. My close friends and family think I eat like Pumbaa (I also eat about double what my family and friends eat) so it's fitting that I keep a Pumbaa in my kitchen. (Some of you might have already spotted Pumbaa in my kitchen in our All-Star Break video!)

Jeremy Lin Quarterly Subscription Box Review #LIN01 Justins

Justin's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups - Value $2

Wristband - Value?

Lin included Justin's Dark Chocolate peanut butter cups since they are one of his favorite sweet snacks that are also healthier than the alternatives. And the wristband included was made just for this Quarterly mailing!

Jeremy Lin Quarterly Subscription Box Review #LIN01 Cards

3 Player Cards - Value?

These are another Quarterly mailing exclusive - these are pictures from Lin's high school days!

Verdict: After reading the letter, I can tell this is a very personal box for Lin, and I love that he included exclusives for subscribers in this box too. I think the retail value is close to the cost of the box, but adding in exclusives makes this much more appealing to Jeremy Lin fans. What do you think of #LIN01?

Is anyone willing to sell their book with all of the notes in tact from their Jeremy Lin box?

This book and personalized notes from Jeremy himself would make the perfect birthday gift for my brother. If anyone is interested, please let me know. 🙂

i thought it was cute. we r a family who supports jeremy lin and my oldest plays basketball so i thought this box would be a nice addition to his bday present. i am happy that the proceeds went to his foundation but it’s just ok. not the biggest value for the $75 but i felt it was thoughtfully put together. i was hoping i’d be the winner of his signed shoes but no dice. i think i’d have to see what was in his next box before i’d subscribe to it.

As a new addict to subscription boxes, I was very excited to stumble across this and get in on the first one. When my son told me that one of his passwords is “Jeremy Lin” I had to get it for him! His should arrive today and will be his only true birthday surprise. I had to peek and I am thrilled! I admit, I was quite nervous after seeing some of the other Quarterly boxes. This is a great box for a student athlete to keep them inspired and heading in the right direction!

I’m really not the target demographic for this box, but I thoroughly enjoyed this review. It is very rare to see a box that is so very personal to the curator. You can tell Lin put so much thought into this, and he clearly picked items that were very important and meaningful to him. So often we get boxes full of items that the curators could get a good discount on, and maybe that’s not something that they personally love, or even use. You can tell Lin uses these items regularly and wants everyone to enjoy them as much as he does. What a great first box for him, I hope he continues to curate his future boxes in the same spirit.

I’m getting the box on Thursday. I’m excited now. I was worried that it would be geared more towards a male demographic and mostly basketball fans but everything can be used by male or female. Really like the exclusive items. It’s hard to find Jeremy Lin merchandise.

As a Rockets fan & Houstonian, I will not be subbing to this box. LOL

I love JLin and this box is really well curated. I am sure anyone who subscribe to it will find it worth their time and money. Great review!

I think Jeremy put alot of thought into his box. I’d rather have a box from an athlete like him, than oh say any of the Jenners or Kardashians. I definitely wouldn’t have been disappointed to receive it. Unlike the Nina Garcia ones which I would have traded immediately.

I’m not in the target demographic for this box at all, but I think it seems like a really fun, thoughtful selection. I’d particularly love to read that book with his annotations. Maybe I can find someone to trade with.

My 16 year old son LOVES this box. He loves sports, wants to go in the missionary field and admires Jeremy Lin.

He can’t wait to read the book which is filled with post it notes. There are a lot of notes. He is really happy with the verse that is on the band. The verse is 1 Corinthians 10:31 and is JL’s life motto.

I was surprised by the Popfigure! My son loves Pumbaa who has now join the ranks of other esteem Popfigures in his room. He is passing the peanut butter cups onto his aunt because they are gluten-free.

The boys are excited about the player cards which are from his high school days. They both find it to be inspirational. He’s also really happy with the backpack and that JL puts his Bible in his backpack. The letter explains the box well. You can tell he put thought into this box.

I see this box as being similar to Arianna Huffington. Both are personal and reach a niche audience which will appreciate the boxes, but it is not going to reach a broad audience. I think it is money well spent for my 16 year old son and am willing to purchase box 2 for him.

I think this is a wonderful box for a young man like your son. I think JL is an excellent role model, and I would love to read his notes in the book. This is the perfect box, even if it’s not targeted to someone like me: a useful item, an item special to the curator, an inspirational item, a special treat, and some fun extras.

Yay – I’m so glad to hear your son loved this box! 🙂

I love Jeremy Lin and I love how much of a personal touch he put on this quarterly box! I don’t know how many of the products I need or would use, but I would love to get the book with Lin’s annotations. I also love how the proceeds go to benefit the Jeremy Lin Foundation. I’m a huge Lin fan, and I’m so glad they chose Lin to be a curator. Thanks for the review, Liz.

My son will love the backpack but will moan about there being no literal basketball LOL
As we live in southern CA he plays hours every day
I think it’s a pretty neat box as it is so personal and he seems to have been totally in control of the contents

Hmmm…. does anyone else think that sub boxes have maybe gone too far when an athlete just randomly throws together some stuff and sells it to fans? I find this a really odd choice. I didn’t even know who he was ’til I read further and then I remembered there was a ton of hoopla over him a couple years back. Is he even still a thing? lol

Reply ButtonReply

Jenny

I love the idea of an athlete putting together a box, but Jeremy Lin is the last person I’d get a box from lol. When I originally showed my basketball-lovin hubby that Jeremy had a box, we both had a good laugh.

LizH

Fan or not, Lin clearly has a strong moral character and that’s something young basketball fans (and anyone really) should respect and admire. In an age when so many pro athletes are in the news for the wrong reasons (drugs, cheating, wife beating, etc.), I respect any athlete who actually is walking the walk. I’m not in the demographic for this box, but I would suspect that Jeremy Lin fans would be very pleased with the high degree of personalization in this box, not to mention the charitable goal behind it. Kudos to him.

Angela

That’s usually how I feel about celebrity boxes, but I was really surprised by how *not* random this box is (especially compared to, say, Nina Garcia) – everything seems really personal, especially the annotated book, and I can see how it would appeal to the demographic that would buy a Jeremy Lin box (generally pick at least two of the following: Asian, basketball fan, Christian).

FWIW, Jeremy Lin is one of the few Quarterly curators I actually recognized, and though I’m not in the target demographic I can think of several guys who would love to get this as a gift.

MaryJane

I disagree. This box had a lot of personal meaning to Jeremy. He went through and still is going through adversity during his career. From being discriminated while playing basketball because he’s Asian to being constantly traded from team to team. Through it all he is still a man of God and walks the talk. He may not be a so called “superstar” but he is a great role model which is hard to find in other athletes nowadays.

Reply ButtonReply

PA Anna

MaryJane – That sums up the majority of the reason why I bought the box for my son. Quarterly made it clear it wasn’t going to be a basketball only theme. JLin did announce his theme of getting ready for the game “physically, spiritually, and mentally.”

My older son is biracial (Half Mexican) which causes him to stick out where we live. It was no biggie where we used to live so it was shocking when we moved to this area. Having a role model that keeps his faith and persevere through racial discrimination matters to him. There aren’t many good role models for our teen boys nowadays.

I do understand why people may be disappointed if they were looking for a more basketball oriented theme. It will be interesting to see the theme of the second box. I think it may be more basketball focus. We are looking forward to it.
