New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great. (FYI – this is a different subscription from the QVC New Beauty Test Tube which is no longer shipping).

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Info

New Beauty Test Tube recently revamped their info booklet format. This month they are featuring 3 "TestTube Insiders."

Throughout the booklet, each insider explains why they like one of the items:

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 booklet

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Dr Brandt

Macadamia Flawless Cleansing Conditioner - Value $15

(Good to know for swaps - plastic seal over cap).

This item isn't listed in the booklet, so I'm guessing there will be some variation for subscribers. This is one of those non-sudsing shampoo alternative conditioners I like but don't love, but I like Macadamia products in general, so I'll use it!

dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion - .25 oz Value $7.25

(Good to know for swaps - inner foil seal)

This PoreDermabrasion formula is an exfoliator designed to reduce the appearance of pores. I like that the formula is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, and it has a refreshing scent. Plus the exfoliation particles are so fine that it was very gentle on my skin. I will definitely swap for more of this stuff - not sure if I can justify shelling out $58 for the full-size version, though!

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 it's a 10

DermaQuest Essential B5 Hydrating Serum - .5 oz Value $35.50

(Good to know for swaps - plastic seal over entire bottle).

This item is listed as full-size in the info booklet, but it is actually half the full size. This serum goes on like a gel, and it has a lightweight, hydrating effect. Looking at the ingredients, there is no added fragrance (always a win for me with skincare), but there are so floral and fruit extracts added, so it has a bit of a scent, but I like it.

donell Lip Saver Lip Balm - FULL SIZE! Value $7

(Good to know for swaps - safety sticker seal)

This is another not-in-the-booklet item, so some subscribers may receive a different item. I always need more lip balm, and I like the slight sheen this one gives too!

It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Lite - 2 oz Value $9

I love all It's a 10 products I've tried (including this one) - they always leave my hair feeling ridiculously soft! (This is another product not mentioned in the booklet).

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Lips

Grande Lips Mini - Value $27?

Hm - I'm confusing on the sizing/pricing of this. This mini version is 2.6 ml (.087 oz), and the "Full Size" version is only .05 oz (UPDATED - I missed a 0 before), so technically this mini is larger than the full size. The full size version has a different applicator though.

This formula is gluten and paraben free, and it is supposed to help plump lips. It gives a good amount of gloss with no stickiness - so at least it passes my lip gloss test! The formula tingles a little bit, but isn't too annoying. I haven't noticed any major plumping differences, but I rarely do with this type of product!

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 August

Lumene BB Illuminated Anti-Age BB Cream - Foil Packet Bonus Sample

L'Occitane En Provence Divine Cream - 8 ml Value $17

(Good to know for swaps - inner foil seal)

I love seeing L'Occitane in this box! (Sometimes New Beauty Test Tube can repeat brands a little more often than I'd like, so this is an awesome change!) My mom loves this cream, so I'll be saving this mini for her! (Also - L'Occitane makes the best mini sample containers!)

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Bio OIl

Altchek MD DePuff Eye Pads (2 pair) - Value $4 total

I couldn't get the Altchek site to load, but I found these on Amazon - and they get good reviews!

Bio-Oil - .5 oz Value $3

This oil is lightweight, and I like the scent. I'm always skeptical when it comes to stretch mark fading products, but if this one works, at least it will be relatively cheap for me to buy more of it! (And it also gets solid reviews on Amazon!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $124. (Not counting the value of the magazine you also get separately). I'm happy with the value this month, and I like that there are some new brands in the mix! What do you think of the August New Beauty Test Tube?

Can we still get the August box or do we start with September?

In the box description you state that QVC no longer ships the NBTT but actually both HSN and QVC had a variation of this NBTT for sale this summer. The QVC box has since sold out but I believe HSN’s tube is still available for purchase. These varieties offer products from brands sold on those shopping networks.

This is one box I am not even tempted to purchase. There is never any “wow” factor.

Agreed. The price makes it even more unattractive.

This is the box that made me finally quit after 2 years.

Not sure why my post disappeared… maybe because of my iPad? I’ll try my desktop this time!

I always think this box (uh, tube) looks so good and then I look at the price + shipping and go “nope.” Not that the value isn’t there (it looks like it is!) but I just can’t spend $40 on mystery products each month… well not $40 more than what I already spend on beauty subs. 😉

This really does look like a great box so I’ll keep my eye on it.

I have never in my year as a subscriber received a New Beauty magazine with my tube. I’ve always heard about it but never gotten one. Do you have to subscribe separately from the tube sign up? When/how does it arrive? I’m feeling a bit cheated since the mags are quarterly and a bit pricey as magazines go so if they’re supposed to be part of the sub I’d like to get the actual full intended value.

The magazine supposes to come with the subscription. It is send out separately from the box/tube. Just email them or call them about the missing issues. I emailed them when I was subscribing and didn’t receive my magazine-they shipped me one right away and I received a second that was shipped out late eventually.

I wanted to comment on the sizing of Grande Lips Mini, the full size version 0.5 oz = 14.8ml and the mini is 0.087 oz = 2.6 ml. (Note the 0 after period in 0.087 oz).

Reply ButtonReply

Gabby

Not sure if I misread but you said that the gloss mini is 0.087 oz and the full-sized is 0.5oz, which would mean that the mini is ~17% of the full-sized, not larger than it. Unless I’m missing something?

Liz Cadman

My mistake – the full size is .05 oz. Just fixed it in the review. I need to get some sleep 🙂

Rowsdower

You are right. The full size would be about 14.8 ml as opposed to the 2.6 ml mini. I think the zero in the tenth placeholder got her. That’s happened to me before.
