Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box!

Birchbox
3.7 overall rating
657 Ratings | 188 Reviews

Every month, Birchbox lets subscribers pick between a curated box (all samples revealed) or a single sample choice and be surprised by the rest of the items. This review is of the Customer Favorites curated box selection for September. (I think the curated boxes ship earlier than the sample choice boxes).

Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box Beauty Protector

Beauty Protector Daily Conditioner - 1 oz Value $2.75

Beauty Protector Daily Shampoo - 1 oz Value $2.75

I've received so many Beauty Protector haircare samples over the years from Birchbox, and I understand why these made the cut for the Customer Favorites box. I love the scent of Beauty Protector products, and the formulas are sulfate and paraben free!

Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box Liz Earle

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit - Value $9.40

This was the main selling feature for me in picking the curated box. My mom and I both love this cleanser set. To use the cleanser, you apply the cleanser to dry skin, wet the muslin cloth with warm water, then use it to remove the cleanser.

I've found the formula to be very gentle, and the warm cloth is a nice touch for some minor exfoliation.

Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box Perfume

Harvey Prince Hello Perfume Sampler - Value $2

Harvey Prince is one of those items that I think is very popular in Birchboxes, but just isn't for me.

Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box Eyeliner

Marcelle Mini Waterproof Eyeliner in Mulberry - .8 g Value $7.30

I've sampled this eyeliner before, and it is a great stay-put liner. Plus the color is heavily pigmented and goes on smooth. Here is a swatch:

Birchbox September 2015 Review – Customer Favorites Box Swatch

It has plum undertones, but would probably pass for black eyeliner in most lighting.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $24. I think that's good for a $10 box, especially when one of those items is a perfume sample. I would have liked this box better if the perfume sample wasn't in the box, but I knew what I was getting when I picked this box - so I'll stop complaining!

Aside from the perfume, I'll use everything. I'm happy!

i got the purple eyeshadows (pop) and loved the rest of my items ! it was the best box i have gotten. sometimes picking the monthly box doesnt work over your customized needs so far in my opinion- i just ordered the london mascara and another customized box for sept- hope i become as lucky as this month!

First-time birchbox user and extremely disappointed. I receive better samples at sephora. I did not even receive the pop sugar pallete. I am cancelling my subscription and staying only with ipsy with gives actual full size products.

I also picked the curated box and loved it. Beauty Protector is one of my favorite brands,I love those Marcelle eyeliners and I may be in the minority but I love getting perfume samples in my sub boxes and I truly love Harvey Prince perfumes. The Liz Earl cleanser and towel was new to me and I adore it! Will definitely buy the full size. Another fabulous Birchbox!

I did not pick a sample as I prefer the surprise. My box came today which is usually when I get my Birchboxes so no shipping issues for me. I got the purple Pop eyeshadow pallette which surprised me since people said it went fast. I hope they didn’t accidentally send me someone else’s sample choice. I do love the colors though. Pretty purple and silver and good pigment. Also got Malin and Goetz face cleanser which I love.Juice Beauty Peel which is awesome because I love the Juice brand and needed a new peel. English Laundry perfume in Signature Her which smells amazing. I am definitely buying the full size. Davines shampoo which I’m excited to try as I have thick wavy hair. Then a bonus foil packet of Malin and Goetz Vitamin E face cream and a foil packet of the matching Davines conditoner. I also bought the Stila liquid lipstick trio as an add on. A fabulous Birchbox. Very happy.

I made the sample choice for the POP eye shadow, received a confirmation and didn’t get it. Contacted customer service through online chat (I seem to get better immediate results, over an email and wait, wait, and wait some more) they are sending me the eye shadow. We will see.

And here I am: I did not pick the eye shadow and am receiving it (along with what I did pick) in both of my boxes. Why? If I wanted it, I would have chosen it! My profile states I do not use eye shadow……

I had the exact same problem! This isn’t the first time this happened to me either. I contacted customer service and they won’t do anything about it until I get my box. My box said it would ship on the third. It didn’t. It said it shipped on the fourth an would be delivered by the 14th. It never showed up. I checked tracking again and it said it had been prepared the 14th and would be delivered by the 22nd? I contacted customer service over a day ago and I haven’t heard a word. As an Ace, I’m suppose to receive priority responses and hear back within 12 hours. I have no idea what’s going on at Birchbox, but I’m LIVID. What’s the point of having a September box if I might get it in September? What’s the point of being an Ace if you don’t get the perks you’re supposed to get? I’ll pick my October Sample before I even get my September box. If I get what I actually choose. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars with Birchbox. I’m not happy.

I have been so disappointed with Birchbox lately. One thing I do not want in my boxes is perfume samples and since I have signed up for Birchbox in Feb I have received 4 perfume samples and 3 of them came in the last 3 boxes. July-Sept. I complained to customer service in Aug about it and they offered me beta testing to help with selections etc and I could only laugh when perfume samples wasn’t even an option on their testing. I adv the cust srv rep about it so they could possibly tweak the site. After going back and forth with cust serv about the sample choices and my dislike of perfume she offered a free box in Sept. Great right, sure. Except I almost fell outta my chair when I look at the samples I am receiving for Sept and what’s in the box…you guessed it…PERFUME! Do they even listen to us? It was almost like they heard me, gave me a free box and then a big F* U* here is another perfume sample.

I also picked this box for the Liz Earle sample. I received that in my first box and really enjoyed the experience of using it. I also don’t mind receiving hair products and I am always looking for a good eyeliner. I was worried the mulberry shade would have too much red in it, but I am over the moon that it’s more black than anything else. Much better for my skin tone!

My Pop eyeshadow compact was in pieces. Totally not useable. I contacted customer service but have not heard back yet. I have seen that I am far from being the only one with a broken compact.

I have two subscriptions and got the Pop eyeshadow in both of them (did not choose it twice, things just worked out that way).

One was totally shattered and BB has said they’re sending a replacement. The other was fine.

Kind of would’ve preferred points instead of a replacement because now I will have two of those. But oh well.

Mine hasn’t even shipped yet. I picked the Pop eyeshadow trio, but they’re still apparently sending me the shampoo/conditioner along with the rest of my samples for a total of 7 items. I won’t use the shampoo, since my dry, curly hair is a shampoo-free zone, but I’ll try the conditioner. I can’t complain about getting 7 samples. I’ll just give the shampoo to my niece or something.

I requested the Pop eyeshadow for my sample choice. I REALLY want to try the Liz Early but the rest of this box just sounded “ok” so I decided to take my chances… hope I don’t regret it. My box should be here in a couple of days and I decided not to look at my spoilers so I can be surprised for a change. Some of the items the rest of you received sounds good so fingers crossed!

I also picked the POP eyeshadow and I LOVE IT! It’s beautiful and stayed put all day with a primer. Hope you like the rest of your box! I also don’t look at spoilers. I tend to be more excited about the things when I open them vs when I look at them online.

HOW do you keep yourself from looking!? As soon as I know they are up there I get SO CURIOUS so it’s hard not to look! You have the patience of a saint, in my opinion 😉

I never get an option to choose which box I want I wonder why?

I never have either?

If you never get your sample email it’s probably something to do with your email address’s settings/ preferences. Check your junk mail folder if you are on yahoo, outlook etc. If you have gmail it might go to your promotions folder. If all else fails, log into your BB account and use a different email account.

There were a couple times that I haven’t gotten the sample choice email so I just emailed Birchbox and told them what I wanted – it worked both times.

It took about 6 months before I started getting the option to choose.

I went with the Customer Favorites box this month because I wanted so badly to try the Liz Earle Kit. It’s amazing! Very happy about that. I’m not a fan of the fragrance but other than that item this box was a hit for me. Also appreciated the 20% coupon! Was able to place an order yesterday using points with nothing out of my pocket. Happy!

I got both my boxes today too, usually I get them way later. My primary account I picked the Anastasia eyebrow pencil, which is super tiny. The 100% pure organic eye cream is big and smells like coffee. The perfume sample, which I normally hate getting was I think my favorite discovery in the box. It was from Raw Spirit wild fire perfume, it’s woodsy but sweet at the same time. My 2nd account got a 7 item box, including the Davines shampoo and conditioner, Malin + Goetz cleanser and moisturizer (foil packet), pop eye shadow trio, NERD mask and Rituals shower gel. I liked the 2nd account’s box way more for the 7 items, the NERD mask, and shower gel.

That’s bonus item not bounds item. Auto correct isn’t always correct.

I enjoyed this box very much. I actually chose the sample choice box and purchased this box separate. I liked all of the products.

Ann

I got the Davines shampoo and conditioner foil packets but they are a bounds item for me to go with my Davines O All in One Milk leave-in treatment. Plus my pick of the Pop eyeshadow, 100% Pure caffeine eye cream, Harvey Prince Sincerely and trestique concealer crayon. No complaints from me.

Dani

I chose the Pop eyeshadow trio but I’m also getting the Davines shampoo and conditioner! Excited to try it all

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

FYI, the davines shampoo and conditioner are foil packs.

Benita

The conditioner is a foil, but the shampoo is a good-sized bottle, even bigger than the Beauty Protector mini bottle in the favorites box.

I just cancelled my Birchbox subscription & was afraid that the September box would be awesome & I would regret the decision. So I’m really happy to see that it’s a bunch of products that I wouldn’t like!
