Geek Box Showdown August 2015

Geek Fuel
4.5 overall rating
36 Ratings | 5 Reviews

Previously, on Geek Box Showdown: Loot Crate walked away with a clean sweep for best item and best box of July! Can they hold on to the top spot in August? Find out below!

Just a note before starting - Since geek boxes are including more and more exclusive items, it's becoming harder to get a real value, so I figured I'd give a fair estimate of those items. Also, if the review has a value range - I took the high-end of the range.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - all items

Nerd Block Classic - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $19.99 plus shipping (Shipping is $8.75 to Canada, $9.50 to US, $12.50 Worldwide)

Number of items: 6

Value of items: $50

Exclusive Items: Ghostbusters T-Shirt, Ghostbusters Lunch Box, Slimer Plush, Game of Thrones Coasters

Synopsis: This month's them was Summer Mixtape, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. They knocked it out of the park for me with all the Ghostbuster items. On top of that, I use the stress ball all the time - so I really enjoyed 4-6 items this month. I LOVED the lunch box this month!

Loot Crate Subscription Box Review & Coupon – August 2015 - items

Loot Crate - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $13.37 plus $6 shipping a month

Number of items: 4 (not counting the monthly pin)

Value of items: $81

Exclusive Items: The Joker Wooden Figure

Synopsis: This month followed up Heroes 2 with the Villains 2 theme. This was a polarizing box for readers based on all the feedback - but I absolutely loved this one. I didn't mind getting less items, because I liked them all - but I could see how it might be more of a hit if you really dislike 2 items and that's half the box. My favorite item from this box was the Venom mug - I used it this morning!

Geek Fuel Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - All Items

Geek Fuel - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $23.90 a month

Number of items: 6

Value of items: $60

Exclusive Items: Deadpool T-Shirt

Synopsis: This is one of the best months of Geek Fuel for me. I love 4-6 items from this month, and the Fallout 4 magnet will be something that should be easy to swap to any major Fallout fan! Easily, my favorite item was the shirt, and I'm wearing it right now.

Power Up Box Subscription Box Review August 2015 - All Items

Power Up Box: Premium Box - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $19.95 + $6.95 shipping a month for the Deluxe Box, $29.95 + $9.95 shipping for the Premium Box

Number of items: 7

Value of items: $44

Exclusive Items: None

Synopsis: This box does not have a theme, but if I had to group the items, the theme would be animation - so I just assumed that was what they were going for as I reviewed the box. I really liked 4-7 items this month, but if I was a bigger Transformers fan, i'd love the shirt too. Another easy pick for favorite item this month - Bender POP!

Verdict:

Favorite Box:  This is a tough call this month - Geek boxes were in great form this August! I think I'm going with Loot Crate again this month (probably an unpopular decision!) because I really liked all 4 items, they had high value, and I use the Venom mug all the time - so it's very valuable for me in those terms.

Favorite Item: My overall favorite item came from Nerd Block - it was the Ghost Trap leading to the presentation of Slimer inside!

This was the hardest month for me to decide. I really enjoyed all 4 of these boxes, so it really just came down to value for me - and I know that's different for everyone, so now it's time to have your say!

What was you favorite box, and favorite item this month? Have your say in the poll below and tell us about your favorite item in the comments!

That Nerd Block wins with me from the t-shirt alone. I don’t think I have anything of similar value at the moment to swap for it, so I might have to check Amazon and ebay. I REALLY want that shirt!

My favorite this month was 1up. How come they don’t get to be part of the Geek Box Showdown?

I really appreciate your post. I get to see the differences, value, and type of items in each box without searching multiple sites. Are you subscribed to Super Geek Box ?

Almost voted for Geek Fuel because of the Deadpool shirt… But had to pick Loot Crate because I am a huge Breaking Bad fan and the mug is the type of item I buy often.

I so regret not getting that Nerd Block. My husband would love it.

On the other hand I’m glad I didn’t jump on the Breaking Bad item. I was hoping for something Heisenberg related. I wouldn’t have been excited about the apron.

My favorite geekbox this month was: Fanmail! ;-). Out of these 4 I received Nerdblock and Loot Crate. I enjoyed the Nerdblock one the most because most items were a homerun for me. I do think that in general Lootcrayw had the better box. The only thing for me was the 2 items I would have normally loved I personally can’t use (already own that apron and the mug will scare my kids).
Out of all the boxes the one item I wanted the most was in GeekFuel’s box – the FallOut 4 swag! Man, that would have made an awesome stocking stuffer for my husband but I couldn’t justify the cost of the box just for that.
PowerUp had a nice T-shirt, although I do love my Ghostbuster’s shirt!!!

Fanmail was totally my favorite this month too!

Summer months tend to be weak for sub-boxes and this months isn’t any different. They all had one or two decent items, except PUB, but it was weak overall.
