NGQ07-letter

Each Quarterly box comes with a letter from the curator describing the theme for that quarter, and background on every item they selected.

For this box, Nina picked out items inspired by the runway that you can wear in every day life.

NGQ07-necklace

Jules Smith Americana Choker - Value $98

This was the spoiler for this box, and I was so excited about it - I love the simple and clean design of this piece. Subscribers will get various metal finishes, and I was hoping for classic yellow gold, but this rose gold is lovely, too.

NGQ07-heaband-2

Jennifer Behr Satin Knot Headband - Value $194? (patterns/styles may vary)

I can't find this headband for sale online, so I'm assuming it is older stock, but the sold out listings I found listed it for $194.

The pattern and material on this piece are stunning:

NGQ07-headband

NGQ07-headband-3

I'm not sure if I can pull off this look, though. (And I don't need a $200 headband to hold back my hair when I use masks!)

This may be swapped or gifted if I won't wear it - it is too beautiful to stay in my hair accessories drawer next to $.25 hair ties!

NGQ07-earrings

Bauble Bar Stud Blossom Duo - Value $34

These earrings measure about 3/4 inch across. I like the muted colors of these gems - it's a nice way to add a subtle pink touch to a look.

NGQ07-pouch

Lolobag Makeup Bag - Value $28

This bag is very cute and VERY tiny - it measures 3.5" tall, 4.5" wide and 2" deep. Even though Nina describes it as a makeup bag, I'd think of it as more of a coin purse or a makeup bag for sample sized makeup!

NGQ07-nyx

NYX Simple Vamp Lip Cream Pencil - Value $6.50

This lip cream pencil has a lot of pigment and unfortunately is way too bold/dark for me. But I expect to see some items in this box that push my boundaries, so I'm OK with the most inexpensive item in the box not working for me! (Swatched below)

Eyeko Brow Gel - Value $25

This is paraben free, and does the job! All brow gels seem to work for me - so I'll use whatever brand/sample I have on hand. This one works!

NGQ07-swatch

NGQ07-lashes

Face Stockholm False Eyelashes - Value $12

Nina recommends wearing these at night - they can be a bold look, especially if you don't usually wear false lashes (me).

Verdict: I think if you signed up for this box because of the Jules Smith necklace spoiler (basically the cost of the box) and see the rest of the items as bonus, then it is a good box. For me, I absolutely loved the necklace when I first saw the spoiler, so I fall into that category.

That being said, without the necklace, this box would have been more of a miss for me.

In what world can someone justify spending $200 on a headband. Definitely not mind. Maybe in KardashianLand. Lol.

I wonder how long Quarterly has Nina contracted for? So many other curators have bailed but Nina keeps on with her less than inspired boxes a couple times a year. Maybe #8 will be her last? I gave up on Quarterly about a year ago when Design Sponge bailed. Sad because it seemed like such a good concept and overall (I know there are a few exceptions) they have failed miserably.

So, glad I bailed! That headband was on sale for $34 at Nordstrom rack a month ago(so you may want to check on the Nordstrom haute web site). The choker may be prettier in person, but it’s just a metal band that will pull on your neck. There is nothing in this box that looks curated or pulled together. It doesn’t feel cohesive, which is what I think a Nina Garcia collection should be. It just feels really random. I’d rather throw my hard earned cash at Popsugar(even though–I am still waiting on replacement candles, and jewelery, etc.) and Zoe. Glad everyone else seems happy though, and I am in the minority.

This isn’t a *bad* box, but I don’t think it’s a $100 box, either. And the super-dark lip color seems like an odd choice heading into spring/summer.

on the pamphlet she claimed designers had dark lips on the runway… but what I REALLY think is that NYX was like “hey, want some free winter lip products?” and they spun that. Otherwise I feel we should have at least had a Sephora level brand for this supposed trend of lipstick for Spring??

While this particular one is too dark for me, there were darker lips on the runways this spring. I get various e-mails and magazines that show that. I don’t particularly care about what’s fashionable or not; I wear what I want and what I think looks good on me regardless of season or what’s fashionable — at 58 if I’m “out of fashion” people just think I’m being eccentric.

I received the rose gold necklace but it’s perfect for me. Overall this was a good box as I can see using several of the items. I was unimpressed with the NYX and the Baublebar as I see both brands as being ubiquitous in subscription boxes and not very high end. I know Baublebar isn’t cheap but it also doesn’t feel classy enough to warrant its price tag. It’s like higher quality costume jewelry.

The headband is fantastic. The makeup bag is tiny (and won’t fit most lip glosses and other products) but the quality is there and it’s cute so I’ll likely use it for tampons or similar. The NYX lip product was way too dark and I’m going to toss it. The brow gel works well but is a bit boring. The necklace is more of a statement than I expected; I thought the band would be a little more delicate but it’s still very nice. The earrings are likely going to see some use for a season but they won’t have the style longevity of the necklace. Finally the eyelashes will be fun.

I wasn’t as pleased with this box as I have been in the past but I feel the value is there considering I really like the two higher valued items.

This is no way no how a $100 box to me. UG.

Agreed. No way this stuff comes close to $100. SO glad I bailed on this before they shipped the travel one

The only reason why I decided to continue with this subscription was in the hopes that they would try to updo the Rachel Zoe box but clearly that did not happen. this is the last time they get my $100. I am canceling!!!!

I have that lipstick (and some of the darker purple ones from the same line) and I wear them sometimes. But I don’t need a $100 box to get Nyx lippies…

I adore the headbands, I’ll have to go hunting on ebay for one

Try Nordstrom rack–just saw it for $34-38 bucks a month ago.

Except for that hideous color lipstick, this is a nice box. The necklace is stunning; the headband great quality and such beautiful designs and colors. But I’m still glad I didn’t buy it, mostly because it isn’t worth $100, in my opinion more like $60. To each her own.

I wish I had gotten this box bc I’m a little obsessed with the necklace in yellow gold or silver. I’m not sure I could pull off the headband, but I like it.

I love the necklace (I got the silver, although I would have preferred the rose gold). I’ve already swapped the headband (mine was turquoise), which is very pretty but just doesn’t work for me. I’ll probably wear the earrings, although I’m not in love with them. I’m giving the make-up bag to the 9-year-old down the hall who occasionally walks Oberon. I wear eyelash extensions, so I just threw the fakes into my bathroom drawer; not sure what I’ll do with those. I’ll use the brow gel. Planning on swapping the lip pencil, it’s just too dark for me.

The headband is giving me LIFE at the moment! I have crazy curly red hair (think that girl from the Disney movie ‘Brave’) and have to wear headbands or my hair is everywhere. Love the colors but I would never spend that much on a non jeweled hair accessory. I didn’t order the box; I wish I did.
