I arrived early as I do when attending events. My friend Tracy came along because we were allowed to invite a guest, which makes these events more fun.

The set up was a bit chaotic, but in the end, it all came together. There wasn’t a designated line to sign in and the crowd was larger than they anticipated.  So, they divided everyone into groups of 4 and had 3 beauty stations: skincare, hair/cologne, and a Bite Beauty/ lip station.  The ladies apologized for the chaos and directed us to the stations.

Menique,  Beauty Consultant

IMG_5918

The first stop was the skincare station. Our beauty consultant was Menique, who was kind and gracious.  She asked us for our feedback about the box: What we liked, didn’t like and any suggestions for future boxes. I appreciated that they welcomed input from their subscribers!

We discussed the skincare items in our boxes and sampled the Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer.  Menique informed us that the primer allows for smoother skin. It calms and prepares skin for the mask.  The primer is not for facial sheet masks.

We tested the charcoal mask on our hands, and it left my skin smooth and soft.  Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brighten Sleeping Facial is good for all skin types.

Nicole, Beauty Consultant

The second stop was led by Beauty Consultant, Nicole. She gave us product info on the Briogeo line, Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask.  The founder created this line because she saw a lack of products for sensitive scalp.

In addition, Nicole gave us an in-depth description of the product lines from Briogeo: Don’t Despair, Repair (Treatment Collection), Curl Charisma (Gels and Cremes for Naturally Curly/Wavy Hair) and Be Gentle, Be Kind (Hair Stimulate, Hair Growth, Sensitive Scalp). It was good to know that these products are natural and cruelty-free.

Atelier Cologne is a French, niche line only found at Sephora in 18 different scents.  We received a sample of oil and Atelier Cologne Vanille.  We were instructed to prime skin with oil prior to applying fragrance to extend the longevity of the scent. This is a nice trick to know.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi blotted and swatch onto my skin.

Last stop, the lip station with beauty consultants Bebe and Miranda. We sampled and got beauty tips onBite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi and the Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram.  I thought the pink lipstick was too bold, so Bebe and Miranda suggested taking a lip brush or my fingertip to swatch some color on then apply to lips by patting or blotting on lips in the center and apply a colored gloss around, such as Anastasia Lip Gloss in Bordeaux, and blend or line it with the Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram and blend. Another brilliant idea!

A nice surprise was that we received a complimentary cloth bag filled with hair ties, compact mirror, notebook and pen.

I’m so glad you reviewed the date. I get anxious about attending events that I think will have a ton of people. I just RSVP’d for June 30th in King of Prussia, Pa.

This looks like a nice little gathering although I have to say the goodie bag is really what would pull me in, haha

One of the many reasons I chose to not sub to this is because of these in store events that I would be missing out on. The closest Sephora store to me is about 2 hours away (although it sounds like they’re not doing these in every store yet), so I would never get the chance to take advantage of this perk.

Glad you enjoyed the experience!

How fun! I want to go, but can’t make it anywhere by 7 on week days! ? Great review, Nich! xx

Thanks for the review! I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning and while they’ve slowly added cities, never any close to me :/

Very interesting and a super great review. I know I wanted to know what these play dates were all about and now I do, so thank you for that…. I sadly cancelled after just one month. I just dont have to space for anymore beauty samples even though I am crazy about getting them… I’m crying inside?.I had to pick and I ended up going with Allure… I still love you Sephora ?

I have a question about the Play Date card we got with our subscription. Can we just take that in any time before it expires and what happens when we do? I often feel like it’s hard for me to get the consultant’s attention when I go in (without the card) because I don’t really fit the demographic that makes them see a high sale and they tend to ignore me. Usually, I’m fine with that so I can poke around on my own. Has anyone gone in with their card and wants to share the experience?

The card is for 50 bonus points when you make a purchase. You just hand it to them at checkout. They send one every month in your box so that’s 50 extra points every month!

That does look like fun! I, too, am too far away from the Sephora’s that were having Play dates. I noticed they were all in the “ritzier” areas that I don’t live near, LOL! I wonder if a bunch of us email Sephora to let them know we want one and which city, eventually, we’ll get more?

This looks fun! Now I wish I’d gone. Will definitely go next month if my schedule allows.

Thanks for reviewing this. I was really curious to know what happened at a play date. I hope they read this feedback and start having them in more locations. The closest to me was hundreds of miles away. It looked fun and something I would definitely do if it was offered in my town.

Love all the great pictures! I feel like I was there! Very useful tips on making fragrance last and toning down lip color. What a fun playdate!

On the tip they told you about applying oil before using the Cologne to make it last longer, would that be like coconut oil or something else? Also where did you get the play date invite?

Reply ButtonReply

justmissjamey

Just read through here and switch the same question…..what kindbof body oil?!

Reply ButtonReply

Nichelle

The invite was an email I received, since I’m a sunsriber. The sample they provided was a body oil (not scented), I think coconut oil oil may work. It doesn’t hurt to try.

Thanks for posting this and for taking so many pictures! Very helpful and looks like you had fun. I wanted to go but the closest Play! Date was 25 miles away.

Monica

Where do you find the Play Dates?

Reply ButtonReply

Nichelle

I received an email, since I’m a subscriber (and got off the wait list, yaa) to RSVP and you look up your location. Luckily my town was listed!

Mia

I was really interested in attending a Play Date, but this was only limited to certain Sephora locations and none of them were near me. Hopefully they’ll expand their locations to local stores. Either way, I’m glad I got off the wait list and can enjoy my samples.
