Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!

This is one of my top recommendations if you are looking for a beauty box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out my list of the Top Beauty Boxes for 2016 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

ipsy-june-2016-bag

Each month, ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items. I think this design is pretty fun, and very bright!

Now onto the items!

ipsy-june-2016-rodial

Peter Lamas Youth Revival 5 Oil Hair Treatment Mask - .75 oz Value $3.35

This is my favorite discovery in the box this month. It's a paraben and sulfate free formula, and the scent is amazing. It's simple enough to use too - just apply it to your damp hair in the shower and let it sit for 3 minutes before washing out. It made my hair softer and less frizzy immediately. I just wish the sample size was larger! (This is about 2 uses for my shoulder length hair.)

Rodial Stem Cell Cleansing Cream - 1 oz Value $11.75

This formula is designed to be used as both a daily cleanser and a mask. To use it as a mask, just apply it and let it sit for 15 minutes. I've tried it out as a cleanser and found it to be very gentle and not drying. It does have a perfume scent, though, so it might not be for everyone.

ipsy-june-2016-colourpop

Colour Pop Creme Gel Liner in Get Paid - FULL SIZE! Value $5

This liner goes on so smoothly and it has great staying power too. The shade is a shimmery copper/rose gold. ColourPop is one of those inexpensive brands I discovered through subscription boxes that has consistently impressed me with the pigmentation!

(Swatched in lower photo.)

ipsy-june-2016-urban-decay

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lounge - .85 g Value $10.75

This eyeshadow shade is magic! It looks green in the pan, but it has a duo chrome effect, so you get the green iridescence in certain lighting/angles and a redder base. It goes on so smoothly, and the pigment is fabulous too. (Not surprising considering this is Urban Decay!) (Swatched in lower photo.)

ipsy-june-2016-bombshell

Be a Bombshell Famous Pout Potion - FULL SIZE! Value $14

This lipgloss has a lot of pigment, but you can tone it down pretty easily too. (I just put one quick swipe on my lip and blended it for a more subtle look.) There was no stickiness, and it has a sweet flavor, too. Be a Bombshell Cosmetics items are never items I get super excited about in subscription boxes, but I can't deny that they work pretty well!

Swatched below:

ipsy-june-2016-swatch

Verdict: This box has a value of about $45. That's pretty great for a $10 subscription box (And that's not counting the value of the makeup bag!) I like everything in the box, and I'm happy with the sample sizes and many of the brands, too.

What do you think of the June Ipsy Glam Bag? Did you get an Urban Decay eyshadow pan too?

Starting at $14.00

While I was in the mountains camping I learned my card had been charged 29.95 for this glam bag stuff that I never bought or even heard of.

Just had to share with someone, anyone ? Because I’m so excited! A girl on my local garage sale site sold me her Ipsy bag for 8$ with the following- color pop gel liner in get paid (yay!) the balm meet matt(trimony), Klorane make up remover (another yay!) 12 benefits hair treatment (yes!) and Seraphine botanicals happy hibiscus blush (the only thing I all ready got, which is fine, guess I can start a swap pile haha) pretty sweet deal, I’m happy!

This was my first ipsy bag. I think the price is justified despite the small samples since you do get a bag every month. I wasn’t crazy about this month’s design, but I was surprised by it’s quality.

I received:

*Crown Blush 3 Tone Bronzer (Eh this was okay. The sample was so small that the “3-tone” shades really are lost in application.)
*Urban Decay in Fireball (This was just okay too. I was hoping for Lounge. Fireball is supposed to be a peach/pink mix but the colors look so similar. The sample is also super tiny and I am unsure how to really store it without the packaging.)
*Formula X in Wingwoman (This shade is okay but the bottle is micro! I can’t really apply the polish effectively since the brush is so small.)
*Be a Bombshell Lipgloss in Secret (I’m liking this more than I imagined! I’m not big on bright or pigmented lip products but this is an almost nude shade. The smell is coconutyy and the consistency is moisturizing.)
*Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub (I haven’t tried this yet but the package was pretty big. I’m looking forward to treating myself with this scrub over the weekend!)

First bag I’ve received from Ipsy:

2 Patchology Flashmasque Illuminate facial sheets
1 JulieG nail polish in Tropical Matte 0.35 oz.
1 theBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony eyeshadow in Matte Plum
1 Klorane waterproof eye make-up remover 0.8 fl. oz.
1Mirabella Magic Marker eyeliner in Very Black

For a first-time Ipsy subscriber I’d say that I was not expecting the products to be sample-sized. I would say for $10 it’s not so bad. I probably wouldn’t buy these things if grouped together in a bag at a flea market for $10, though. I’ll just pretend they’re Christmas presents I’ve bought for myself. Colors were pretty.

I got the following:
*Patchology Illuminating Masks (2) – $15
*Rodial Stem Cell Cleanser – $11.75
*UD Eyeshadow in Fireball – $10.75
*Seraphine Botanicals Happy Hibiscus Blush $18
* Doucce Bombastic Mascara – $12
My bag value totals $67.50 so the value is definitely there. My Urban Decay shadow is an odd pink shade that I feel like won’t be too wearable, unless you want to look like you have pink eye. I am excited to try the illuminating sheet masks. Everything else is usable if boring. The contents definitely top what I got last month.

I got the exact same stuff and mine just came today!

The weirdest thing this month is that I wasn’t supposed to get the Urban Decay shadow but I got it anyway, instead of one of the items on my list. Kind of annoyed because I got another thing, a mascara, that I didn’t want and wasn’t supposed to get. Ipsy was super quick to fix it though which is awesome. Also, I adore Colour Pop! I already had their gel liner in Swerve so I was really glad I got Get Paid. It’s not a color I would have bought myself, because I’m a chicken shit, but I’m actually really glad I got it and I’m wearing it today. Fantastic color.

My bag this month was awesome! I got:

UD shadow in Fireball
Be a Bombshell in “secret” ( the nude shade)
Nyx polish in Wingwoman
Crown Brush bronzer trio
Frank Body coffee scrub

Best bag so far. Add to that, I got a Mellow lipstick in Nude with my points and it is GORGEOUS. Love Ipsy!

Darlene

I always love my ipsy bags!!!

How did Formula X autocorrect to Nyx????

Jessie

Wow, your bag was SOOOO much better than mine! I was super disappointed with a couple sheet masks, a teeny concealer sample, a tiny lip balm, along with the color pop liner and a the balm eyeshadow sample.

Amanda

Looks like we the exact same bag

Alysha

Oh man. Your host was completely different than mine was, and I’m so jealous! You should do a post of what your profile choices were that got you those items so some of us can replicate it for next time! I seriously want those face and hair creams lol

Reply ButtonReply

Casey

I absolutely second that! This was my first month, and I was quite disappointed. I only really liked the UD eyeshadow in Lounge.

I have heard that changing your age might help. I added a decade to mine, so we’ll see if I get less neon nail polish and more skin care next month!

Kim

Love my bag this month! Mostly excited that this is the first in a long time that I did not get mascara or eyeliner! I will definitely use everything I got this month. 1.Urban Decay shadow in Lounge, 2.Boo-Boo cover-up, 3.Clarisea deep pore detox activated charcoal exfoliating mask, 4.Seraphine Happy Hibiscus blush, 5. Juice Beauty luminous lip crayon in Zuma

My favorite bag yet! I cleared my quiz months ago. Left it blank and started giving either really good reviews or really bad. It’s working. I was so close to canceling because I wasn’t using a single thing in my bag and now I don’t want to.

Sue

I’ll have to try this to see if my Ipsy improves. June was the worst ever!

Nice strategy! I had this for over a year and finally cancelled because despite my profile the colors were always teenager level and the products not my interest so I didn’t renew. Donated most items to family including the latest few included bags. If I decide to re-sub, will keep your tips in mind.

My first ipsy bag and I think I really lucked out with getting products that I want/need. I assume it’s going to be downhill from here, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts. 🙂

– UD shadow in Fireball: This was actually my only disappointment because the color is not one that I would use, while UD Lounge or either of The Balm shadows would have been better. Oh well!
– Seraphine Botanicals happy hibiscus blush: Perfect shade for me, and right when I’m considering purchasing a blush compact.
– Kajal black eyeliner: I use gel and liquid liners, so it’s nice to have a black pencil alternative.
– BioRepublic SkinCare Fiber Mask Set: Always happy to try different sheet masks.
– Crease/smudge brush: I currently own one smudge brush and keep it at work. Great to have one for home.

My first bag twin ?

my same bag too lol…

Jen

Liz you and I got the exact same products which makes me even happier about my selections. Great month. I just resubbed to ipsy after taking a break and this was my first month back and makes me happy I resubbed. Now I won’t feel as bad when I dump BB

I subscribed to ipsy for 8 months and finally said forget it! The first 4 months id only reviews items I liked, but after a while I started reviewing all the items, and re-doing my profile and I continued getting crap I still have don’t use because I have no use for it but refuse to throw out. The $10 is why I kept it for so long.

I think they ignore me as well. Got another eye makeup brush. I think I have gotten 4 or 5 now. I got a third sea salt spray. Eyeliner. Again. I have begged them to stop sending me eyeliner. I did get the UD eyeshadow in fireball. And a baked highlighter? Huh? i like skin care people. Skin care.

Reply ButtonReply

Teisha

I cancelled last month for the same reason, except I didn’t want any more lip stuff! A 50 year old woman does not need bubblegum pink lip anything every other month. I wanted more perfume and nail polish. ☹️

Reply ButtonReply

Sandra Flaishmakher

So as I predicted, I got a crappy, crappy bag. The three items I wanted were UD, CP and the clarissa salt scrub. Off course I did not get any of them. Instead, I got a bronzer (never use) nail polish (Again!!!) The balm shaddow (blaah color and I hate that brand) And that horrible cheap looking liptini gloss. Yuk!
I will only use one oroduct this month, which is the sheet mask. And even that I got befire, same exact mask from glossy.
So upset with my bag this month… and so many people got the UD! At least if I knew that only very few got it, like many times before with the coveted brands. But this time most people got it, but I didnt :(((

Same bag! Very excited to try out the face cleanser and the hair masks!

MelissaP

I also got the exact same bag as Liz! And I’m very happy. The copper eyeliner is pretty fun. I am loving my subscription (this is the third month for me).

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

Ha, I got the same bag items too and it’s also my 3rd month. June’s bag was the best so far! Can’t wait to see what is in July’s bag!

Tracey

I got the same bag however I was missing one of the items, the hair oil mask. I emailed ipsy and they responded right away and said they would send it out. I received the email yesterday with the shipping information! Very good customer service!

1) Ud-lounge
2) Cake beauty-everything balm
3) kajal-black eyeliner
4) JulieG nail color in Tropical matte
5) Crown Brush-3 tone bronzer

in my beauty profile i dont have nail polish, bronzer or eyeliner checked. But i keep getting them every month! ? i see everyone getting facial masks and skincare. . im so jealous

Reply ButtonReply

Kimberly P

Ha! I’m the exact opposite. I hate getting facial masks and skincare (I feel the sample sizes aren’t enough for me to notice much difference), but for a while that’s all they sent. They seem to be doing better for me now, so I can’t complain too much.

Reply ButtonReply

Beverly

I dont not choose nail polish, bronzer and make up brushes and i got all of them. This is my first bag, so i have no idea what to choose in my profile.

Reply ButtonReply

Casey

I got the same bag! This was my first month and I’m super disappointed. It was the complete opposite of my profile as well. Such is life.

Reply ButtonReply

Briana

ive been with them for 6 months and 4 of those months ive gotten things i wont use. ive reviewed them but nothing has changed

Lorie Sandoval

This was my 1st Ipsy bag, and it will definitely be my last. I was so excited to get it in the mail, but my anticipation bubble just burst when I opened it. 2 face masks, a super tiny blush, a very small eye makeup remover, the UD eyeshadow is awesome, but small & no packaging to hold it. I did get a very cool eyeliner magic marker, but since I don’t use liquid liners, my 16 year old niece scored on my best sized sample. I DO adore the makeup bag, but it couldn’t have been a jankier bag for my 1st foray into subscription boxes.?

Kristin

I got everything Liz received in her bag & I loving everything! The UD shadow is Amazing!!! Thanks Ipsy!! ?

LT

My first bag is awesome!
UD shadow in lounge
Seraphine Botanicals Happy Hibiscus Blush
Formula X Nail Polish in Wingwoman
Marc Anthony Beach Waves Spray
Royal & Langnickel Moda Crease/smudge brush

Reply ButtonReply

Trish

My bag:
Hey Honey 24Seven: Day & Night Revitalizing Cream
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fireball
Doucce Boombastic Lash Volumizer Mascara
Dirty Little Secret Illuminating Baked Highlighter in Bellisima
BioRepublic SkinCare Fiber Mask Set

I honestly don’t see myself using that eyeshadow color. It’s almost the same color as the DLS Highlighter, another product i’m not sure I’ll use. Another mascara (hello Liza Minelli!) The masks I’ll try if I can find a few spare minutes. The moisturizer is what I’m most excited about. Did not care for the bag design but different strokes, etc.

Not sure if I will be canceling after this month. I got:
The same Color Pop liner
Saraphine blush
The Balm Matt Trimory
Boo boo concealer
12 Benefits hair treatment
I never get any of the spoiler items or the great items everyone else gets…been 8 months and have adjusted my profile several times. May be my last month…

Reply ButtonReply

Sitchey

Try changing your profile again and make it a more drastic change. That’s what I did with mine and have finally been supe happy the past two months. I actually put things in my profile that I didn’t think I would actually want it’s a bold move, but paid off for me. My bag this month:

Formula X-wing woman
Heyhoney 24/7 cream
Delectable Everything balm
Urban decay eyeshadow in “Lounge”
Elizabeth Motts “show me your cheeks” blush in peach pink

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Took your advice. Changed almost everything. Can’t hurt because the bag can’t get any worse than this month! Thanks:)
