Did you know that pairing wine with Halloween candy is a real thing? As soon as I found that out, I asked myself two questions:
- Why didn't I know about this sooner?
- How can subscription boxes be involved? (I ask this question to just about everything in life.)
So, we've put together a wine and Halloween candy pairing party guide for you! We used wine from our Winc wine subscription (formerly Club W), candy from Candy Club (in addition to store-bought Halloween Candy), some snacks from Graze, and we decorated the table with some goodies from subscription boxes, too!
We started off with wine from Winc (formerly Club W)!
Gummies from Candy Club, and:
Snacks from Graze (you can now order any snack from their subscription in a larger serving size bag from their shop).
Time for things to get a little scary!
(But not really 😉 )
Here are some of our suggestions for pairing the wine with candy:
2014 Wonderful Wine Co. White Blend
This wine was on the sweet side, but not overly sweet. As a blend, specific notes didn't stick out to a lot of us until we tasted it with some of our snacks. Lacey loved it with the sour cola gummies, "the sourness of the candy brought out the sweetness of the wine in contrast and amped up the lychee/banana flavors."
And the Candy Corn with this wine was a hit for anyone with a sweet tooth!
We also tried pairing with the dried pears from Graze, which helped bring out the pear and other fruits:
Most reds will pair well with chocolate, and this one did the job! It's a really smooth, well-balanced red that's on the sweet side.
And it was a hit with classic Hershey's bars!
This was my favorite wine in the box! It's a light and crisp, vegan-friendly, and it has a lower alcohol content, too.
Since this wine was so light, we paired it with licorice twists and gummy bears that wouldn't overwhelm/takeover the flavor. (Gummy bears + light white wine = my new favorite thing.)
This was a dry red, and the spicy notes made it a little tougher to pair with candy, but the chocolate still worked pretty well. But this one seemed to work even better with some of the snack items.
We coated a goat cheese log in the Sriracha Crunch from Graze - and it was the surprise hit of the party:
The Cranberry & Hazelnut Toasts were also great with a little Nutella:
And one super important tip if you are planning a Halloween Candy + Wine Pairing Party: Don't forget the costume:
Spaghetti and Meatballs is a classic, plus it comes with a built-in bib!
(I am currently doing my best to not just buy all the dog Halloween costumes I see at Target - but I couldn't resist this one!)
What do you think of our Halloween party idea? If you have some leftover candy from Halloween, I highly recommend pairing it with wine!
Have you ever thrown a party/dinner with subscription box items?
