This month's craft is a set of stained glass mason jar lanterns! These are the instructions that were included. I like that every step is illustrated with a photo! That's so helpful!
They also included this picture of all the supplies. It makes it easy to make sure you received everything. From home, I only had to provide scissors.
Creating the lanterns was really only a two step process. The first step was to apply the leading (black strips) that separates the sections of the stained glass. A pack of sticky leading strips was supplied. This picture is of the plain mason jar with the sticky strips applied. The only real problem I had with this craft was that the leading didn't stick as well as I would have liked. If you look closely at the pictures in this review, you can see where it slid around a bit after I applied it. It gives it a bit of a rustic look, so I guess it's okay, but it would have been nice to have had the option of giving it a more precise look.
The kit also included liquid leading to fill in any gaps in the leading strips. I actually ran out of leading strips and used the liquid leading to make some of the lines. It doesn't look as nice, but it stuck a lot better.
These are my completed lanterns! The second picture shows only two of them lit because one of the electric votives they included didn't work. I am happy with how they turned out, they look really cool! I wasn't sure I was going to be happy with them, though, to be honest. The second step was to apply the paint straight from the paint tubes using the tip to apply. It was not a natural feeling process for me. A lot of paint came out of the tube when I was trying to fill in the squares, and it got drippy in places. I'm surprised it all dried so nicely and resulted in a very uniform stained glass look.
Verdict: I love Adults & Crafts! This was not my favorite project from them, but I love their project selections in general. In this case, I didn't really enjoy the process. I had anxiety the whole time I was working about whether they would turn out decent or not. But, since they turned out pretty good, I'm happy! And pleasantly surprised! I also think these colors are great for this time of year.
