I'm reviewing The Trespasser:

book-of-the-month-november-2016-0006

The Trespasser by Tana French - Retail Value $27 (On Amazon for $16.20)

Book Summary from Amazon:

In bestselling Tana French’s newest “tour de force,”* being on the Murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she’s there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she’s getting close to the breaking point.

Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers’ quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner. There’s nothing unusual about her—except that Antoinette’s seen her somewhere before.

And that her death won’t stay in its neat by-numbers box. Other detectives are trying to push Antoinette and Steve into arresting Aislinn’s boyfriend, fast. There’s a shadowy figure at the end of Antoinette's road. Aislinn's friend is hinting that she knew Aislinn was in danger. And everything they find out about Aislinn takes her further from the glossy, passive doll she seemed to be.

Antoinette knows the harassment has turned her paranoid, but she can’t tell just how far gone she is. Is this case another step in the campaign to force her off the squad, or are there darker currents flowing beneath its polished surface?

As someone who watches both true-crime and crime/detective fiction shows, I had a feeling I would easily get into this book, and I was right. So far, the pacing is excellent, and I was drawn in from the very first chapter.

This book came with a bookmark from the judge, Gaby Dunn, on why she picked this book:

And, this month we also get a BOTM magnet:

Verdict:  I'm very pleased with the value of my Book of the Month subscription. The prices are better than Amazon for new hardcover releases, and they always feature a good mix of popular new books. And I love that you can skip any month you aren't interested in, and you can also buy books from previous months as add-ons for $9.99.

What do you think of the Book of the Month subscription? Which book (or books) did you pick this month?

FYI - you can still get this book or any of the other November selections for your first month if you sign up by the 14th. Use coupon code BOTM5 to get your first month for only $5!

Or use coupon code 30TOTE to save 30% off a 3-month subscription of Book of the Month plus get a free tote!

Any new promo codes that anyone knows of? 30TOTE is no longer working 🙁

It doesn’t seem like the 30TOTE promo code works any longer. And I don’t think that gift subscriptions allow any promo codes.

This was the first month I skipped, but only because I read The Trespasser the day it was released. Tana French is one of my all time favorite authors, and this book was pretty amazing! Hope everyone that chose it enjoys it too!

I skipped this month’s since none of the titles appealed to me but I am really enjoying this sub. Next month will be my last one but I do intend to renew.

I believe they sent me the wrong book, not the one I coast during the open choice period. Has this ever happened to anyone?

This happened to me this month and before I even noticed the error they sent me an email apologizing, sending me the right book, and saying I could keep the book already sent. Great customer service, so just reach out to them!

I’m loving this sub, and I was thrilled to get this heavy duty magnet for my fridge! Gotta love some sub swag. This month I got The Trespasser and Every Man a Menace, as well as All the Ugly and Wonderful Things from the August selection. I’d been trying to read All the Ugly…from the library but it’s so popular I only had a short time frame to read it before returning. That’s one of the reasons I love BOM, the ability to go back and buy books from previous months. I’m currently in love with Station Eleven, which is one of the very first books available at BOM that I picked up a few months ago. It’s an excellent read, very dystopian!

I totally agree with every single thing you said about this sub. It is just awesome. But I also wanted to thank you….I thought I had purchased nearly every single book offered from past months (at one point I had three active subscriptions in my household just so we could catch up on prior month selections), but I somehow missed Station Eleven! I read the description and it’s right up my alley…I have no idea how that one escaped me. So THANK YOU for bringing it to attention. ?

Happy reading!!!
