Be careful with the Sephora perfume samplers like this one where you redeem a gift certificate for a certain size of perfume. The kit I purchased last year had a 1 oz Gucci Bamboo option for redemption but not one Sephora store I called carried that size. That’s not an uncommon size, but it was one of the most expensive perfumes in the kit, so I couldn’t help but feel like it was not kept in stock on purpose…..

I’ve had the same experience multiple times with the perfume samplers from Sephora. The other tactic is they will tell you they only stock the items that happen to be the least expensive. That was true even with the men’s sampler. And my home stores are all huge locations in Las Vegas so it’s not the size of the store that’s the problem. I’ve learned to avoid the fragrance samplers as a result since not once did I ever get to redeem for the one of my choice. FWIW, I had the same experience with a serum sampler at Birchbox. I don’t think it’s a unique sales tactic to just Sephora. Shady but not unique.

Wow, that is awful! I’ve purchased every one of the Sephora perfume samplers, and only once they didn’t have the scent I wanted, so they let me pick a different perfume (that wasn’t even in the kit) which I thought was more than fair. Also several times I’ve actually had them bend over backward for me…on a couple occasions I haven’t liked any of the versions in the sampler, and they’ve let me substitute for another in the same line (ie they let me get Roses de Chloe instead of the regular Chloe, which was what was in the sampler.) They usually have to get supervisor approval, but they’ve always done it. I imagine it depends on what store you go to/what rep you end up getting, on whether they’ll do it or not…
