There was a standard information card in the box listing the items.
Silver Plated Cat Ear Bangle Bracelet – Listed Value $15
I like this. I wear a lot of bracelets and am not picky about silver-tone versus gold-tone. The cat ears are subtle so it doesn’t scream “Crazy Cat Lady” (not that I’m opposed to that…) and the finish is nice, as well.
Here is the bracelet on. Yay for bracelets meant for tiny wrists (mine measure 5.25"). It did poke me a bit when I was trying to put it on. But seriously, it is nice for a change to get a cuff/bangle in a subscription box that doesn’t fall off my hand.
Kitty Gram Cat Plush – Value $15
This is very cute, and it’s for a good cause. KittyGram donates all their profits to a no-kill animal rescue. Also, these plushes are made from recycled materials. I have this on a high shelf right now because Angus thinks it is a toy (EVERYTHING is a toy if you are Angus).
Happy Cat Greeting Card by A Little Lark – Value $3.50
This actually did arrive in time for Valentine’s Day. (It is blank inside, which is my preference because I am not sentimental and often don’t care for the sayings and poetry you find in cards.) There are lots of fun outer space themed items on the Little Lark site as well (it’s not all kid clothes). I’m happy to have discovered this shop! And of course, I always gravitate towards cards featuring cats.
Imperial Cat Catnip Heart Toy – Value $2.48
Zanies Leopard Print Mouse Toy – Value $0.99
There are usually a few cat toys in The Cat Kit. This month they were Valentine’s Day-appropriate! Both were popular with my cats, especially Angus (did I mention EVERYTHING is a toy if you are Angus?).
Angus enjoys the mouse toy!
Did I ever mention it was difficult to take photos of a black cat? Well, it is even harder when he won’t come out from under the bed…Madison was not having a good day. I think he had some tummy upset from too many treats or possibly getting into Angus’s food (on top of his own). He is better now.
Monkey didn’t really want to pose for the camera, he just wanted to walk through while I was taking pictures. In the second photo, you can get a sense of the size of the cat plush.
I took a lot of photos of Sneaky but somehow, almost none of them came out. (That’s how it goes sometimes, I guess.) Here she is, annoyed with me.
Mr. Kitty was also annoyed with me. There he was, in his favorite sunny window, and I interrupted his extra-long nap to take photos! (His eyes are like because he is light sensitive at the moment.)
Here are Mr. Kitty and Sneaky with the cat plush. I’m pretty sure Mr. Kitty has no idea it’s behind him.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $37 for the February 2017 The Cat Kit. That is a few dollars shy of the month-to-month cost of the box plus shipping. You can save a little bit of money by buying a three-month subscription and using our MSA10 coupon. Also, do keep in mind that you would have to pay separate shipping charges if you ordered from either of the smaller producers (Little Lark for orders under $25 and KittyGram for all orders). Anyway, this box usually meets or exceeds the subscription price in terms of value so over time, things will average out.
I liked the mix of items in the box, and particularly that the value was spread around instead of having one main item (that way there is less risk if something doesn’t work for you). I am happy to have discovered some of the smaller producers of items for this month, as well.
What do you think of February’s The Cat Kit? Do you subscribe to any cat boxes?
