This box usually comes with a few paper inserts. First, we have a sheet listing all the items you should have received.
There is also a coupon for the Spot Colors shop.
And there’s a link to additional patterns and instructions.
Exclusive Cross Stitch Kit
This month’s theme is “I Donut Care” (all the themes are fantasy, sci-fi, or horror, generally speaking, although there can be humorous patterns like this one as well). You get a piece of 14 count evenweave fabric and all the floss you need to complete the design (DMC colors are given in the chart so you can buy more fabric and floss to make more). You also get a piece of fabric, a hoop, and a needle.
I think this pattern is funny (I mean that in a good way). I have only finished the donut so far but this is definitely doable in a one-month time period, even if you have a full-time job and write about 45 reviews for MSA in a month (OK, that last part probably doesn’t apply to very many people).
Assorted Stationery and Paper Craft Items
I didn’t try to determine values for these. You’ll usually get a few stationery and/or paper craft items each month. I actually found this collection more cohesive than with past boxes, since the sprinkles and the notepad relate to donuts.
I haven’t had a lot of free time this week. So, I didn’t get very far with the project yet. I just had to do the donut first and I think it looks better than the photo of the pattern that is provided with the box.
Verdict: I did not try to calculate a value for this month’s Rag Tag Box. Some of their past kits are retailing online for $16-18, so you are getting your money’s worth with the kit and the rest is just extra. (The kits for Rag Tag Box are sometimes not available in the Spot Colors shop, either, so there is some value from getting an exclusive item.)
I thought this box was fun. The project is small and you should be able to easily complete it in a month (it took me 2-3 hours for the donut and the letters should be even easier). I think this subscription could definitely appeal to younger stitchers, as well.
