From Sanrio’s Wiki: Gudetama is hard to motivate and has a negative, defeatist attitude. On their official Twitter account’s profile comment, they say that they go through trouble and murmur every day and that they only do it (tweets?) because “great people” told them to. They believe that some day they will be eaten.

Why would anyone like/relate to this character in a positive way? It’s ugly and depressing. So many cute Sanrio characters and they choose this??

Lots of great items this month. I wish I was getting two bags! In my adorable bag (which is probably my favorite yet) is:

* Too Faced – Better Than Sex Mascara
* TonyMoly – I’m Real Sheet Masks in Green Tea and Lotus
* Eyeko – Skinny Liquid Eyeliner Travel Size in Black
* mPrincess – Pressed Eyeshadow in Biscuit (FINALLY! NOT A COPPER SHIMMER!)
* Hanalei – Lip Treatment in Rose

I will happily use 100% of these items. Am interested in trying 111Skin Space Defence Bright Eye Gel, BellaPierre Banana Setting Powder, BRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask, Modicum Skin Care Essential Serum, Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, and Ahava Hand Cream. Gonna have to check out the swaps.

Tarte Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer

I got the banana setting powder and I’m just really not interested in that. I just came across this site last month, and have loved it!, so could someone explain to me how swapping works because I know there are people who would love to get it and I know I personally won’t use it so I would hate for it to go to waste

I so wanted the banana powder and Caudalie, but didn’t get either of them. I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with Ofra and The Balm. At least The Balm packaging is cute. The Ofra packaging is ugly. I always give them away or toss them. The bag itself is cute and I’m so happy I didn’t get another black eyeliner that I don’t use.

Glam bags are live! I’m very happy with my bags this month!

Bag 1:

-Bellapierre Banana Setting Powder (SO EXCITED FOR THIS)
-Modicum Essential Serum
-Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
-Seraphine Botamicals Lychee & Gold Blush
-Tarte Bronzer

Bag 2:

-Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lipstick in Rose (Choir sings! I’m obsessed with nudstix)
-111SKIN Space Defiance Bright Eye Gel (super luxe item!)
-Japonesque Velvet Touch Primer
-Tarte Cleanser
-Seraphine Botanicals Lychee & Gold Blush

This is probably the best Month for me in all the years I’ve subbed!

I just looked up the retail value for that 111skin space defiance bright eye gel…. it’s 1/3 of full size. Full size is $190! Whuuu? So RV $63! So bag #2 has a RV of $114. And bag #1 has RV $80. For $20 total with free shipping I’m getting almost $200 RV items. Can’t beat that!

That thing on the bag looks like me when I wake up in the morning and am still hung over from my psych meds!

I have only been subscribed to ipsy since January, but I love this bag compared to some of the more recent bags. I hated that ticket bag and the clear bag that had the ice cream on it. I feel like their bags have been too gimmicky, but I’m glad this bag, while it does have this little character on it, is cute and not to “out there” I guess.

I’m getting:
-BRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask
-Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
-Ciaté London Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Hybrid Liner in Black
-OFRA Cosmetics “Gold Rush” or “Victory” Eyeshadow
-So Susan Blender Brush

I can’t figure out how to see bag. I clicked on glam bag to see if there was review option but just says we are still making your bag check back 5th. But seeing what other people are posting they got scares me because I dont want any of that ! Its all skin care, brushes , and black eye liners yuck!

Julie

My “Review Glam Bag” button is towards the top of the page to the left if that helps.

So we’re evaluating the argument “it’s a bag, get over it” vs. “I have the right to criticize this bag.” And anyone’s certainly welcome to criticize anything they want. But it’s worth getting back to the basics here: subscription boxes are a way to try a lot of different products at a relatively low cost with little to no customization. If I order a blue bag from Nordstrom and I get a red one, I’m sure as heck going to complain about it. But if a subscription box doesn’t hit every one of my taste preferences every single month? Probably not going to bring out my pitchfork, because that’s the risk you sign up for with this sort of thing. If it really grinds your gears that you don’t love every single makeup bag and product you receive for $10 a month, go to Ulta and pick out what you want. It’s that simple.
I certainly would not want a 4th of July themed bag, unless there’s an equally fun Canada Day option. But I also wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

Heather

I really like the Gudetama bag and it’s why I made room in my budget to get this months sub.
I’m from Canada too and I would have disliked seeing a 4th of July themed bag but like you I wouldn’t have lost sleep over it but I probably would have skipped it, depending on seeing spoilers for products.
I skipped last months because I disliked the bag (I though it was tacky) and didn’t want to fit it into my budget. It’s not that big of a deal.

I just re-subbed specifically to get this bag. I don’t even care what’s in it. So cute!

(Really amazed at how polarizing it is though.)

Even if I didn’t know of the character it very clearly looks like a tired cartoon fried egg. I live in Florida. It’s July. I go outside. I can relate to feeling like a fried egg. I could fry them on the sidewalks if I chose to. lol

Does anyone else think it’s weird that the ipsy home page shows two eggs about to be eaten for breakfast, knowing that Gudetama is an egg yolk? I’m actually on the pro-bag team, but gee, no wonder he’s depressed!

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

He’s actually a spirit possessing an egg. If he’s eaten he just finds a new egg.

Im getting:

– Beau Gachis Illuminator Brush

– treStiQue Mini Concealer Crayon in Porcelain

– Seraphine Botanicals Ginger & Gold Blush

– TONYMOLY I’m Real Sheet Masks

– Ciate London Wonderwand Gel-Kohl Hybrid Liner in Black

Not gonna lie, its not my favorite bag ever. I was hoping for the Tarte bronzer or a pretty eyeshadow but I cant really complain for 10$ a month

Heather M.

I love the bag, it’s so cute (and I’m 38)

In my first bag I’m receiving
Caudalie sorbet
Ciate eyeliner
Tarte cleanser
Beau G brush
Trifle raspberry ripple ombre blush

Second bag
Tony Moly sheet masks
Chella eyebrow cream
Ciate eyeliner
OFRA eyeshadow
Hempz lip balm

Overall happy with these!
Remember, you don’t have to do the phase hack, just click on review bag tab and it will show your items!!
Have a happy and safe 4th!!

I have not jumped on the Gudetama bandwagon. I get that he’s a funny, cute, and relatable eggy but it’s just not my thing

Has anyone hacked and seen their items? me curious

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

I was able to see mine by going to the “Review Glam Bag” button! I’m very happy with my loot – Tony Moly masks, Eyeko eyeliner, Hanalei lip treatment Cougar lipstick, and Ofra eyeshadow.

I didn’t know that! Does the bag have to be shipped already to show that? my bag shows In Warehouse, it seems to like to stay there a long time every month before shipping.

Korey

^^ Ditto. I am not sure what I have to do to score a nudestix, but I will take it, lol. Everything looks great and either shade of the Ofra is fine by me.

I love this bag. I’ve contemplated signing up for ipsy for a couple months now, kept going back and forth after seeing various spoilers, and after seeing this lazy egg awesomeness I decided to go for it. I was a bit bummed at being placed on a waitlist and emailed CS to see if I could get off the list and get the July bag. Only a few hours later my account has been charged, I’m off the list, and I’m getting this glam bag! Wooooot!! Anyway, just wanted to share that info – if you are a new subscriber like me and want this month’s bag email ipsy 🙂

Adorable bag!

People griping or politicizing makeup, get a grip! Ugh.

I’m in my 30’s and from Canada. So this bag costs me $20 and some cents. Not too excited about the spoilers so not sure how I will feel about the bags contents. Though the explanation of the Sanrio character (depressed egg) is interesting. Depression is huge and the message is to take care of oneself. I didn’t know of this character till Ipsy. Though I have been pretty happy with all the bags so far. Probably nothing I’d go out and buy myself, that’s what I like about the service. If you think the bag is ugly, can use it to store crap at home. It’s not like you have to take it out in public if it displeases you. lol I think after a few subs you’re going to realize that you may not like everything. That’s the chance you take with a surprise sub though. You can also sell it to someone who will adore it. Make some money back, maybe cover a month’s sub. I think some if not most can relate to this character at some point in life. My least fav I think was the one with the lips. Would have been cooler if it was a cut out of lips or something of the sort. I’d love to design these bags! haha (:

Omg I was so hoping it would be the bag with Gudetama and not a product, wahoo! This one is going to replace the rose gold bag from Ipsy in my purse. I just hope I still get it because my card couldn’t be charged on the first!

I like it! Ipsy has to come up with 12 different designs each year that can’t be too much like the 12 designs from each of the previous years. Not all bags are going to appeal to all people and that’s OK. It’s a $10 sub, we’re lucky to get the bag each month. I have been collecting the bags for the past 18 months and sure, there are some I like better than others but I just know that the next one will probably be more to my liking.

Another great job Ipsy, keep up the good work!

Wow. Gudetama really brings the ridiculous out in people. People are going to unsub bc of a Gudetama makeup bag that is a small part of a $10 makeup sub, people are bringing up politics bc of the comments of idiots on fb due to their interpretations of makeup application videos, people are comparing Gudetama to a vomitous mass that just makes zero sense for summer (bc apparently vomitous masses make PERFECT sense for winter!), and the list just goes on. Who really knew that paying only $10 a month — that’s 33 cents (on average) a day — could drive people to such madness!?? Yes, this IS all about personal preference. BUT, when you find yourself going a little bit insane over your opinion of a tiny makeup bag?? You might have some issues you need to deal with. Just throwing that out there.

I resubscribed just to get this bag. I LOVE GUDETAMA. And I am 36 so there ya go. It’s not just teenagers that can appreciate an adorable little misanthropic egg character. Honestly, I still think it is kinda crazy that Ipsy sends a bag EVERY month. I mean, how many makeup bags does a person need? Just seems a bit wasteful after a while. Which is part of the reason I unsubscribed previously. But for this little guy, I’m totally down for the bag.
