Unique Vintage 1950s Red Cotton Bow Sleeve Selma Swing Dress – Retail Value $88
I love this dress – I think it may be my favorite I’ve received since starting this subscription (though there are a lot of good candidates). Red is my favorite color so I am probably biased. This one fit better than usual. I have somewhat odd proportions at the moment, with legs and shoulders that are probably one size and a midsection that is a larger size, so I went with the S so as not to squeeze myself too badly but so that the shoulders didn’t gape. This was a teeny bit large on top, but not bad at all, and the midsection fit even with the petticoat underneath. The skirts on all of these swing dresses are quite forgiving.
I think the bows on the arms are pretty cute. I could even see making this into a work dress, though, with no petticoat and a cardigan to cover up the sleeves. But it would also be great for a holiday party (it is getting to be that time of year!).
Please forgive my terrible posture here! I was trying to show off the fact that this dress has pockets. There is one on each side, neatly tucked into the skirt. The pockets were pretty large and *might* be able to fit a phone, but I don’t know because I don’t have a smartphone to try out. The pockets are certainly big enough for a lipstick and some keys, anyway.
The back was pretty simple this time. I could zip it up without help, though getting it unzipped again was another story. I guess my arms are not as flexible as I thought!
Verdict: This subscription costs $57 if you include shipping and the dress I received has a retail price of $88, which I think is a great value. It is new merchandise (not a closeout) and is available in both regular and plus sizes (they have separate listings on the Unique Vintage website but from what I gather, everyone receives the same dress each month regardless of whether they get the regular or the plus size option). As usual, this dress is well-made from quality materials with no holes or loose seams and the zipper works well. This was a wonderful month for me.
