Nylah Beauty Skin With Benefits Review
Consistent with their website, the Nylah Beauty box experience is minimalist, clean, and straightforward. All three products came tucked neatly in this lightweight zipper pouch. Seems like the perfect case to carry them in for travel!
Before I dig into reviewing the products themselves, I'll start by saying I don't identify as much of a beauty product buff because my morning routine just so happens to have evolved to place emphasis on other parts of the getting-ready process, like picking the right outfit for my mood and enjoying a leisurely breakfast with my husband. My look tends to be very natural, so most days my skincare/beauty routine involves washing my face, moisturizing, applying concealer under my eyes and atop any blemishes, and sometimes adding light eyeshadow and a bit of mascara. So, with all that in mind, I love the simplicity of the Nylah concept, which is just that there are three products in their line, rather than an overwhelming amount of variations and options to choose from!
Nylah Beauty Renew Facial Cleanser, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $18.00
So, let's start from the beginning! The first of the three steps involved in this skincare routine is to wash your face with the facial cleanser. The consistency of this face wash is sort of like a watery gel. It bubbles nicely and offers a faint, pleasant, fresh scent. My first use was in the shower, so I thoroughly cleansed my face, neck, and chest. My second wash was in the sink the following morning—it's recommended to use this trio both morning and night, but I don't usually wash my face before bed unless I've been sweating or wore more makeup that day, so as not to strip my face of its natural oils. Both times, the cleanse felt gentle and refreshing.
Among the ingredients in this product are hydrolyzed soy protein, glycerin, and cucumber extract, which are meant to help minimize roughness and wrinkles, and increase the skin's ability to hold moisture. At the ripe age of 28, I can't say I have many (any?) wrinkles, but I do have very fair, freckly skin that's been overexposed to the sun a decent amount of times, so the focus on smoothing and hydration are welcome here.
Nylah Beauty Retouched Clarifying Serum, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $32.00
After patting your face dry (which is something I need to be better about; I have a bad habit of burying my face in a towel and wiping it dry, which I'm sure my skin elasticity won't thank me for later in life), the next step is to apply this clarifying serum. I'm sure this will be offensive to women who have a thoughtful skincare routine already established, but I've actually never used any sort of face serum, ever. This one touts the ability to brighten overall skin tone, minimize pore size, and maintain/restore firmness, which, after using it twice, I totally believe! Never has my skin felt so rejuvenated as after applying this serum. Especially lately, during the dry winter months, I have often found myself applying my face moisturizer multiple times in the morning, only to reach for my hand lotion as soon as I would get to work and applying it to my face. With this serum on hand, I can already tell that will never happen again. And, I am elated!
The consistency of the serum is similar to the cleanser, which has a thin gel-like vibe. Its scent is very neutral, almost undetectable.
Nylah Beauty Refreshed Hydrating Cream, 1 oz. - Retail Value $28.00
The last step is to moisturize with this lightweight cream. The tub isn't very big, but a little goes a long way. The cream is thin and absorbent while still offering substance and reach, and the scent kind of reminds me of Nivea cream. It uses ingredients such as Swiss apple stem cell, jojoba oil, alpha arbutin, and niacinamide to nourish and hydrate skin. I'll be honest, I've never heard of most of those ingredients, but then again, like I said above, I haven't spent much time reading the backs of moisturizers. Whatever they are, they seem to be working! A note I'll add to that sentiment is that I'm usually more inclined toward all-natural, plant-based products for their lack of harsh chemicals and tendency toward being cruelty-free. That said, my face has truly never felt as refreshed, hydrated, and cared for as it has after each wash with these products. And, while they don't have it spread far and wide on their site, Nylah products are all cruelty-free, talc-free, silicone-free, and gluten-free, which is a comfort.
Finally, they threw in a little bonus temporary tattoo. It mentions on their thank you card that if you sport this metallic silver tat in an Instagram photo, you'll have a chance at being featured on the Nylah Insta page!
Verdict: I'm completely loving the simple and straightforward product line offered by Nylah Beauty. While my freckly face may never look as smooth and clear as their lovely models', it feels amazing, which is what really matters! The only thing that's lacking for me in Nylah's line is an eco-friendly focus, but that's just a personal preference and not at all a commentary on the efficacy of their products. As far as value goes, this box costs $39 (with free shipping for US customers) for $78 worth of product. That seems like a great deal to me, but with two catches: first, that $39 is more than I've ever spent on skincare products, and second, that their Skin With Benefits page promises $130 worth of value in this bundle. If I had to guess, they're getting that $130 estimate based on the average value for similar products from "leading competitors," as shown on the bar graph that they have displayed.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! With this subscription, you'll receive the same products each month so you never run out!
Value Breakdown: This box cost me $39.00 including free shipping, which means that each of the 3 items in the box has an average cost of $13.00.
