Rocksbox Jewelry Review April 2023

Last year I purchased a pair of "diamond" hoops from Rocksbox and one of the hoops broke in half the other day, which was super disappointing! So, I went to The RealReal to search for a pair of real diamond hoops, and everything is too pricey!

In May, I'll be on the hunt for a replacement pair and maybe I'll find one on Rocksbox. TBD!

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

Concerned about cleanliness? Each piece is sterilized with alcohol jewelry cleaner using medical grade products and handled with jewelry experts wearing gloves.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Mignonne Gavigan Lolita Mini Hoops - Retail Value $85, Member Price $81

About this item: Crafted in 18k gold-plated stainless steel, the mini version of Mignonne Gavigan's Lola Hoops, these lightweight hoop earrings feature individual layers of hand-crushed metallic sequins. They measure in a 2" long and 1" wide.

Condition: Like new.

Review: This pair was a bit flimsy, with the earrings constantly sliding about in the hole, but they're also really fun and dressy.

Lele Sadoughi Eva Stud Earrings - Retail Price $65, Member Price $62

About this item: These 14k gold-plated stud earrings by Lele Sadoughi feature a round black cabochon center with a round flower petal-shaped border. Measuring at a 1/2" and finished in a high polish shine, they're pretty lightweight and a total classic.

Condition: Like new.

Review: They're simple and sweet, and while I didn't get a ton of wear out of them, it's a great everyday piece.

Lele Sadoughi Bow Stud Earrings - Retail Value $85, Member Price $81

About this item: Crafted of high shine 14k gold, the Bow Stud Earrings feature a tied gold rope bow with a small pearl center. Measuring at 1" x 1 1/4", these medium-weight, darling bow earrings remind me of something Minnie Mouse might wear.

Condition: Like new.

Review: I love these girly earrings so much, but my only complaint is that they wouldn't sit flat against my earlobe and constantly looked like they were slipping off.

The Verdict

Since I already own a pair of Mignonne Gavigan earrings, I was interested in trying another pair and they didn't disappoint. As for the two Lele earrings (I've become soooo predictable) they're really cute and sweet, but I did not make a purchase.

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $224. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount, the $10 Forever Credit, the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month, which goes towards your purchases), and my Rose Gold Rewards discount of $11.20, the total price for all three items goes down to $171.80.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

I tried out Rocksbox for a month and absolutely loved it! But I had no intention of buying – it was solely a rental option for me to try new styles and brands. All the pieces I picked were in excellent or new condition, the shipping was super fast and everything was packaged nicely. I always gravitate towards KSNY, Kendra Scott, Lele Sadoughi, so being able to try something outside my norm, with no strings attached, was enjoyable.
Side note, Switch is also pretty incredible – their jewelry options, even at the Core level, are delightful 🙂

Hi Mary,

I am glad to hear Mr. HGL is doing better. It’s too bad that you’re not finding more quality pieces to rent beyond the designers you prefer. Have you considered Switch jewelry rental service? I would have a hard time justifying their $95 rental fee for 3 Core items a month, much less paying for the Select tier. But it would be nice to wear a Chanel bangle or another old school luxury brand. I love bracelets the most, the bigger, clunkier and bolder the better. But, I worry about loosing a $700+ bangle. Have you tried Switch? What do you think?

I really like the Lele Sadoughi jewelry you’ve been renting lately. I enjoy all your reviews; I get to learn of designers that are new to me and I love how you do a write up about each designer in your clothing rental reviews.

Hi Leslie! Thank you!! I really, really want to try Switch for so many reasons and I just might have to do it on my own. I enjoy it too… I’ve learned so much about clothing and jewelry in the year and a half I’ve been doing these reviews. The other night I was joking with a friend and said I’m such a fan of rentals, I’d rent my entire life if I could (dates included, haha).
