What I’m Wearing This Week: Armoire

Hoppy Friday, y'all. I'm going to make this a quick review because I flew to Naples with a bunch of Armoire items that I rented specifically for the trip. I will deliver a proper review in two weeks.

In the meantime, I’m falling apart. I worked out so hard, I gave myself Piriformis Syndrome and hamstring tendinitis.

At first, I was able to push through the pain and complete my run or exercise, but then age caught up with me and now I’m in PT. Pinched nerves are no joke! Why can’t I still be 18?

WHAT I’M WEARING THIS WEEK: Armoire

Welcome back to What I'm Wearing This Week: Armoire. For the newbies, every Friday on WIWTW I'll recap the clothing rentals I wore for the week. I’ll take you on a trip through my life, where I’m going, what’s missing in my closet, my current obsessions, what I’m excited to try, and maybe even buy. We’ll explore designers and trends, and a variety of styles and brands. And each week I’ll fill you in on why I chose each item, the total value of the rental compared to the retail price.

Armoire, which is a clothing rental company for women, is all about female empowerment. From the hand-selected and curated inventory of styles that are designed by the Boss Lady, for the Boss Lady, to their involvement with female-powered brands, and their partnership with Dress for Success Seattle, they’re a brand built for today’s woman.

This is a review of the Unlimited Plan for $249/month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

WHAT I RECEIVED

All three items by Steve Madden, Black Halo and Avec Les Filles arrived fresh from the dry cleaner, neatly folded, and sealed in a shipping bag.

Steve Madden Viv Short Sleeves Mesh Midi Dress, Retail Value $69, Armoire $62

About the designer: What began as a modest $1,100 investment in 1990 has developed into one of the most iconic brands in footwear. From a factory in Queens, NY, Steve Madden has revolutionized the shoe industry, merging years of experience with unique and creative designs. Inspired by rock and roll and his New York roots, his vision to provide on-trend women and men with an outlet to express their individuality is innovative, daring, and inspiring. Steve’s innate understanding of trends and unparalleled willpower have resulted in millions of customers worldwide and propelled his designs to the forefront of fashion. He has expanded the Steve Madden brand into a true lifestyle and destination for footwear, handbags, and accessories, sold in over 80 countries worldwide. It’s about authenticity. It’s about embracing individuality. It’s Steve Madden.

Why I rented it: Steve Madden makes some pretty great clothes!

How I styled it: This dress transitioned from day to night with a Vince leather jacket, the LV Capucines bag, and a pair of NYC & Co. pumps from Nordstrom Rack.

Size and fit: This short-sleeved dress features a painterly print and a cozy mock neck, and comes with a detachable slip for added coverage. The mesh fabric gives it a lightweight, slightly edgy vibe while keeping it simplistically chic to wear. I got a medium, and it was a little snug, but it stretches out to fit your body.

Condition: Brand new with tags.

Honest review: I bought it!

Avec Les Filles Colorblock Wool-Blend Coat, Retail Value $199, Armoire $179

About the designer: We’re AVEC LES FILLES, or “With the Girls”, en français. We launched in 2017 with a mission to offer trend-driven fashion that is distinctive and personal, yet versatile and accessible.

RETRO ★ STREET ★ RUNWAY

Our aesthetic style is based on three pillars: retro details, street influence, and runway inspiration. We are sure to have something that speaks to your authentic style. We are the culmination of “je ne sais quoi” style that Parisians innately possess. Born in LA, living in NYC, and inspired by Parisian chic, we were made for the world. We’re constantly evolving to fit your lifestyle, but we’ll always remain true to our values.

Why I rented it: The big chill is on its way!

How I styled it: I just threw it on top of whatever I was wearing!

Size & Fit: I rented a medium, and the fit was nearly perfect. Crafted in a slightly itchy polyester-and-wool blend, this warm topper features peaked lapels, a double-breasted front button closure, contrasting colorblocked panels, front flap pockets, and a back vent. It’s fully lined and undeniably flattering.

Condition: A bit worn.

Honest review: On the hanger, it didn’t do much for me. But once I slipped it on, I finally understood the glowing reviews—the cut is both flattering and fashion-forward. My only gripe? The “wool” felt more like craft-store felt than true wool, but at this price point, you get what you pay for.

In the end, I had to return it anyway. I definitely jumped the gun on winter gear—temps are only dipping into the 60s at night, so this coat will have to wait for colder days.

Black Halo Evilina Draped Jumpsuit, Retail Value $435, Armoire $348

About the Designer: Black Halo Founder and Creative Director, Laurel Berman, has transformed the way women dress today with the iconic Jackie O dress; known for its versatility and ability to enhance a woman’s figure, it laid the foundation for the brand’s success as a leader in the contemporary dress market. Laurel's architectural designs summon a natural inner beauty and confidence that are both liberating and empowering.

In 2012, the brand debuted a cocktail and evening wear collection, Black Halo EVE by Laurel Berman, broadening its appeal to existing clientele while reaching a new audience. The brand has grown to include jumpsuits, two-piece dressing, and separates

Why I rented it: I love Black Halo jumpsuits!

How I styled it: This gorgeous jumpsuit really speaks for itself, so I kept the styling simple and chic—think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I added a vintage belt, Aquazzura pumps, and the Chanel 19 bag for a timeless-meets-modern finish.

Size and fit: I ordered a size 6. It was a little snug at first, but once I figured out the draping and one-shoulder situation, it worked beautifully. Crafted in crepe back satin, the jumpsuit features a sculptural one-shoulder neckline with a draped overlay sleeve that falls softly over one arm. The bodice is fitted, while the straight-leg pants are tailored with side slits that add a hint of drama. Bonus points for the in-seam pockets and hidden back zipper.

Condition: Brand new with tags, baby!

Honest review: Love, love, love. Should I buy it?

DID THEY DELIVER?

  • What items were most helpful and versatile to own this week to ensure I got the most out of my rental and completed the look I craved? I couldn't wear the coat because it's basically still summer, but the Steve Madden dress and the Black Halo jumpsuit totally made up for it.
  • Did they meet or exceed expectations? Met expectations.
  • What’s the return process like? Place the items in the bag, seal it up and that's it!

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.
