Monthly Subscription Boxes – Everything You Need to Know!

My Subscription Addiction

Welcome to My Subscription Addiction - Your Source for Everything Subscription Box Related!

If you're looking to find the best beauty subscription box for you, a great women's clothing subscription service, the most popular men's subscription box, a healthy food subscription box that's in your budget, or any other box, we have all the tools you need!

A Brief History of Subscription Boxes:

The subscription box trend kicked off in 2010 with the launch of Birchbox - a monthly beauty sample subscription service. (Each month they send subscribers 4-5 new beauty samples and lifestyle items to try out for $10).

In 2011 we saw more subscription boxes enter the market targeting different demographics (BarkBox for dogs, and Citrus Lane for moms and babies are two noteable boxes).

In 2012, the subscription box market started to really take off, with new boxes launching every week. The trend just keeps picking up speed, and in 2013, even more boxes exist that cater to almost every need. (For example, there used to be one nail polish subscription box, now there are over a dozen!)

Some of the latest subscription box trends include local subscription boxes (items sourced from a specific state or city), college subscription boxes (monthly care packages), and celebrity-curated boxes (Items picked by your favorite star!).

Why are Subscription Boxes so Popular?

Test subscription boxes have the following things in common that make them so addicting:

Value - Many boxes often have values that are double, triple and sometimes quadruple what you paid for the box.  Given that you may not love every item in the box, the value makes up for any risk involved, and if every item is perfect for you - then it feels like you've hit the jackpot! (There's also value in trying out a beauty sample and learning it's not for you instead of having to buy the full-size version to find that out!)

Mystery/Surprise - Subscription Boxes are pretty much the only way you can buy yourself a gift and be surprised when you open the box!

Curation - A great box comes with a card detailing every item in the box and why it was selected, and there's typically a theme connecting the items too.

How Much Do Subscription Boxes Cost?

The typical box ranges from $10 - $40 per month. Check out the Subscription Box Directory sorted by price low to high to see boxes based on cost.

We are also keeping track of Subscription Boxes you can start for free - which is an easy way to try a box out!

How My Subscription Addiction helps you find the perfect subscription box (or boxes):

I started My Subscription Addiction in the summer of 2012 to solve a simple problem I was having - I wanted to know exactly what I could expect to get in a subscription box before I paid for a subscription. (Many companies offer discounts if you buy 3, 6 or 12 months up front, so if you know you'll like a box, you can save quite a bit with paying for several months up front).

What started as a small blog with a few reviews has now turned into a complete Subscription Box website. You can find reviews and pictures of almost every box, and also read comments from other My Subscription Addiction readers to see what they thought about the box.

I've found that seeing exactly what was in previous boxes is the best way to decide if future boxes will be right for you.

What You'll Find at My Subscription Addiction:

New Subscription Boxes - A new subscription box launches every week. We keep track of all of them for you!

Exclusive Subscription Box Coupons and Deals - In addition to posting every great deal and offer we find on subscription boxes, we also work with subscription box companies to get amazing coupons just for My Subscription Addiction readers!

Spoilers - While I love the surprise of subscription boxes, I also can never resist a sneak peek or "spoiler." If you're curious about what's in an upcoming box - you'll find the secrets on My Subscription Addiction!

Reviews, Reviews, Reviews - We typically post 3-5 reviews of subscription boxes a day. You also can find past months reviews easily with the Reviews A-Z List!

Subscription Box Contests & Giveaways - We have great giveaways every month - past prizes have included a 6-month subscription to POPSUGAR Must Have, a year subscription to Birchbox, and a 3-month subscription to Bespoke Post!

Need Help Deciding Which Subscription Box to Subscribe to First?

Two of my favorite boxes for women are Birchbox and POPSUGAR Must Have, my favorite (and my husband's favorite) men's subscription box is Bespoke Post. I recommend starting out with one of those boxes if you're looking for a popular women's or men's box.

Want to Know More About Me?

Hi, I'm Liz! I became obsessed with subscription boxes thanks to Birchbox - I loved it so much I signed up for a second subscription just so I could get double the samples each month! (They send out 30+ variations of boxes each month, so I rarely have overlap).

Once I learned there were even more boxes I could subscribe to, I became officially addicted, and My Subscription Addiction was created! (And it turns out I'm not the only one addicted - the average My Subscription Addiction reader subscribes to 5 boxes!)

You should do one about Kidbox…. I just got my grandchildren’s first box and I’m extremely impressed. I do other subscription boxes but kidbox is by far my favorite clothing subscription. They send crayons, the kids can color the inside of the box as it’s like a big coloring board with patterns, they were sent thank you cards to learn how to write thank you messages to family teaching them how to give thanks. It came with a stickers and about 4 outfits at an amazing price if you keep all items. All clothing items were brand name clothing with the retailer original price tag still on it. It’s a seasonal subscription service so u get 5 boxes a year. The best part, of you keep the entire box they donate an outfit to a child in need and you can login to your account with your child to pick which organization you want to donate to. Very very very impressed with this subscription service. You only pay a styling fee when they send u a box and it credits toward your purchase. It’s not just the amazing quality and cute outfits, but it’s about the learning experience your child has and what they contribute back to children in need.

I was really hesitant to try out their service after reading a lot of
the reviews, but I kept seeing their ads and continued to follow them on IG and
saw some super cute stuff, so I just bit the bullet and tried it out. I’m so glad I did.
I love how they let you preview the box before they ship it out so that I can
quickly scan what my stylist picked for me. I can edit it and take a couple items
out that I don’t want and get it replaced with some better alternatives. I always
keep at least one item from my box and I love how they send me 10-12 to
choose from. I honestly haven’t had any issues with any of my boxes (on my 4th
one). I’ve heard a lot about Stitch Fix but I think I’m going to stick to DAILYLOOK
for now. Styles are so cute!!!

I’m having a hard time finding a box for teen sizes. They all seem to stop at size 14. My daughter is 12 and wears size 16. It seems most of the women’s boxes have a more mature style than a teen would wear. If you know of any boxes that I’m looking for, please let me know.
