Fancy Box Review - April 2013 - Monthly Subscription Boxes

Fancy shipping is frustrating me a little bit - I wish they were more consistent with when packages ship out, and when you should expect to get shipment tracking emails. (Half the time I get an email that my box has shipped, half the time I don't). Even though I got the April box in May - I'm pretty pleased with the contents of the box, so the complaints end here!

The Box: Fancy Box

The Cost: $39 a month plus shipping

The Products: Items selected based on your category preferences.

Skull Pocket Square - Value $15

Hm - not sure why this was in my Fancy box - the categories I selected are: Home, Gadgets, Workplace. Oh well - I was going to gift it but decided to try it as a dog bandana instead!

Thumb Lite Stick on LED - Value $5

This is going on my keychain immediately - what a smart design!

Quirky 4-Port Contort Flexible USB Hub - Value $25

Bento Box - Value $23

The first thing I do whenever I get something plastic in a subscription box is check if it's BPA free and dishwasher safe - good news: this bento box meets all my criteria! Now I just have to start preparing lunch for work!

NYC Streets Map Glass - Value $12.50

I love the design of this glass! The company that makes it  - The Uncommon Green - has a lot of interesting products. (They also offer carafes, pints, etc. from lots of different cities). I will keep this company in mind for thoughtful gifts in the future!

Verdict: I paid $30 plus $8 shipping for this box (I signed up when they first launched and locked in the lower rate) and I'm very happy with the value of the items. My boyfriend will use the USB hub, and I'll use everything else with the exception of that pocket square! What did you think of your Fancy Box this month?

I bought a Fancy box for myself and one for my boyfriend. Between both boxes I had every category covered. we got the exact same items except I got the bento box and he got the glass. he even got nail polish ( his categories were pets, men’s, outdoor/ sport, and office) I really have to assume at this point the personalization is a joke! I will be canceling also. do disappointed!

Like many others I’m not impressed anymore and DID just cancel my subscription. Too many cheap knickknacks…not much that actually appears in the Fancy feed! I saw an early box that got RayBans! I never got anything I couldn’t buy on sale somewhere.

Personally, the Fancy box has really lost it’s luster for me. I have changed categories a few times, but that hasn’t done much.

My box was also the same as Judy’s. I have gotten a Quirky item in the last 3 boxes. I’ve been a Quirky member for more than a year, so that’s irritating to me. I don’t have a laptop, so this won’t work for me, it would hang off the back of my Mac.

The arm band (which, Judy you can also use for an Ipod Touch!) is readily available in any store for much less money than valued at. I have had one for ages, and can’t think who to regift it to.

The nail polish was a yawn. And though the light is clever, again available at any store. I have one I purchased last year on my car keys.

I was an early subscriber (box no. 281) and have NEVER gotten an email that it has shipped with the tracking number. It used to come like clockwork on the 21st, after 3 months time it came later and later. Now I get it around the last day of the month.

I emailed Fancy about this and they offered to swap out products for me, but didn’t say if they would choose those products or I would? It took 5 days to get a reply, when I have previously never waited more than 12 hours.

I feel when most products are available at any big box store at a much lower price than they list them as, it’s a fail on their part. It does feel like leftovers. They have claimed to me via email that the advent of all the other Fancy boxes doesn’t effect the original Fancy box. Yet, I have seen the quality go down more and more. I asked if they would switch me to the Food box at my grandfathered rate and was told that wasn’t possible.

I think I will be canceling today which is a huge bummer. I used to really look forward to my Fancy box, in the past it contained such quirky, one off, boutique items. I just am not seeing that any longer. But I’m sad to have to make this decision.

I like the boxes but I feel the same way. I usually get a tracking number 2 days after I get my box. I still haven’t received my Food box and I was charged on 4/10!

I received exactly what these two received and yet my categories were Home, Work, and Gadgets. It seems odd that boxes can be identical even though categories are not.

My box was exactly like the commenter Judy’s. And it kind of felt like they threw all their leftover stuff in my box or something. Would have LOVED the glass – could have lived without the armband for my iPhone / iPod. As for the nail polishes – *shrug* – I have enough now to open my own store, thanks to all these subscription boxes. 🙂

My categories are Women, Gadgets and Work. I think I’m going to switch Gadgets to Pets and switch Work to Home. Not sure if it’ll make that much of a difference though. 🙂

The first Fancy box I ever got was so awesome. I think that’s the problem – I keep hoping the rest will live up to it. 🙂

I personally loved this box as well, especially my bento box which I received in green/white. I also received the same light and usb hub as you did, but instead of the pocketsquare and maps glass I received fancy nail polish that is BIG 3 free and a active band for an iphone 5, 4s or 4. While I’m kind of jealous of the maps glass, I’m glad I didn’t receive the pocketsquare. I also don’t have an iphone, but I can easily regift it to my brother or use it as motivation to finally switch to an iphone. Overall I’m happy!
