Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

Wow - I think May's Ipsy Glam Bag may just be the best Glam Bag ever - I'm so impressed with every item!

The Box: Glam Bag by Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products

Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

ZOYA Nail Polish in Gie Gie - FULL SIZE! Value $8

yaby Concealer in Buff - Value $4.85

I was just looking at my nail polish collection and wondering why I don't have a pale pink section when I love pale pink! This is the perfect nail polish shade for me right now - plus I love that ZOYA is 5-free and I'm a fan of the staying-power of the formula.

Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

Anastasia Clear Brow Gel - 2.5 mL Value $7

I love Anastasia brow gel, and I've been meaning to buy more - this was a perfect timing!

Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

Mirabella Colour Sheer in Daydream - FULL SIZE! Value $22

I love that this is a sheer lip color - and it's paraben free!

Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

Pacifica Island Vanilla Roll-on Perfume - Value $12

I am loving how many full-size products are in this bag! This perfume is a great vanilla scent, and unlike a lot of fragrances, it is phthalate free!

Ipsy My Glam Bag Review - May 2013 - Makeup Subscription Box

Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy - Value $20

(This was a bonus add-on item for referring two people). I'm really excited to try this eyeshadow. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to eyeshadow, so I'm happy that this sparkly shadow comes in a neutral shade.

Verdict: I paid $10 for this bag and received nearly $75 worth of high-quality beauty products - and I'll use every item! I don't think the May Ipsy bag could get any better! What did you think of the May Ipsy Glam Bag?

I love the design of the makeup bag. Had the same makeup bag since forever. Ready for a new one. lol. I love Pacifica. I always pick up some of their products at Target.

I loved this months bag! I was really surprised to see I got the tanning lotion instead of the perfume – no complaints! I received the vanilla perfume from a friend who hates vanilla and I love how yummy it smells. Im so glad I got the Urban Decay bonus item instead of the bracelets they show on their website. I can’t wait to use it!

I loved my Ipsy bag this month! (thank goodness it was nothing like that awful April bag full of ugly pink!)
the yaby concealer is vegan and works so perfectly I wish it was bigger! I have never found a concealer that I loved until now! I wish I got a different Zoya polish because I just got a Julep one in a similar lavender color & wasn’t a fan of it on me, but I think I’ll keep it anyway because its vegan & I hear so many good things about Zoya. it should make a good toenail polish.
I love Juice Beauty, but sadly I got the only product of theirs that isn’t vegan! the lipgloss! but I just sold it on eBay so it will make someone else happy haha.
love the green bag!
don’t like the coconut scent of my Pacifica lotion, but I used it on just my legs/feet so it wasn’t so strong.
I need to get on the Ipsy website! I didn’t know they were having a special thing with UD. I totally could’ve referred some people! haha love the color you got!

I finally got my Glambag yesterday, and I am IN LOVE! I got almost the exact same bag as you! Except my lipstick color is Posy and I did not get the UD Eyeshadow. This is my first bag, so I wasn’t expecting any bonuses anyway 🙂 I’m SO GLAD I cancelled BirchBox and signed up for Ipsy!! And thank you!! Because if I had never stumpled upon your blog I wouldn’t have even known about Ipsy!!

I liked my bag but I loved the Nu-me coupon for $110 in products. Just pay S&H and any amount over the $110. I read the fine print so you really get $110 free and they have items under that amount.

This was my first Ipsy bag. For $10.00 I think that it is a steal! I probably won’t use the brow gel or perfume but I can always pass it along to someone who will. Who knows maybe it might make their day to get a surprise!

It seems like everyone has got their bag but me 🙁 I got an email that it had shipped on May 9th. I’m so excited for it!!

I didn’t really like my bag this month. My concealer is the right color and I like my mint green polish, but that’s it. I got the Juice Beauty gloss in “fig” (it’s ok for a gloss; it’s nude), the Mirabella lipstick in “Charmed” aka Barbie pink, and the St. Tropez bronzing lotion (I like my paleness). When I took my quiz, I didn’t choose lip products or tanning products. I just feel like this bag wasn’t put together for me. It clearly wasn’t customized to my profile. 3 products I won’t use makes me sad. It’s disappointing because I normally love my bag, and I feel like it would have been easy to make me happy with a lot of the other choices (especially the roller ball perfumes and the Pacifica lotions). All the variations could have been a great way to use our beauty profiles, but it just doesn’t seem like it was used.

I really loved this months bag too! I got a lavender colored nail polish that I LOVEEE, the st. tropez instant glow body lotion, the concealer, a roll on perfume, and the lipstick in possy! I think the value that you get is great!

my daughter was OK with her Ipsy bag, she liked it, but I’m the one paying for it. I think that if you are getting extras because of referrals/extra work etc, you should state that in your review, if not then people will think they were shorted. Not everyone knows what “bonus add on” means.
I always seem to be reading reviews that say, wow this is so fabulous, and BTW, use my referral to sign up.
I also noticed in a mystery conscious box review, the blogger got more items than I did, so how can I not think, bloggers get better boxes? There was a whole debacle over the Fab/Fit/Fun boxes and how bloggers got the better boxes.
It does state under your (mysubscriptionaddiction) disclaimer that you do get free boxes to review.

I want to let you know that I also got the UD eyeshadow (and UD BB cream when they were giving those out) but I don’t post videos, have a blog, or even refer people.

I go to their website and review the products in the comments section, and I participate on their FB wall quite a bit, but that’s all.

From a business perspective, I can see why they want to encourage an active user base, because from the back end, they are a marketing company that makeup companies hire to get people to become more aware of their products. The more engaged MUA audience they have, the better partnership deals they can score for us.

I understand, and I want to always be transparent. I’m updating the post to indicate the bonus add-on is from referring 2 people. Also, I understand that in general it can be hard to tell if a blogger paid for a box or not, so a few weeks ago I started making sure I explicitly state in the beginning of the review if I received the box at no cost. (Otherwise I’ll likely mention what I paid in the verdict summary at the bottom of the post). I will continue to do that with every post.

I really appreciate the feedback and I want to make sure my reviews are never misleading. Thank you!

I LOVED this month’s Ipsy bag! I feel like this is the first month that they really started to customize the bags because I got a few of the same things as you and some were different. Usually I get all of the same things as I see on your blog. I was really pleased with my bag this month.

Wow, a blogger got a MUCH BETTER BOX than the rest of us poor slobs, who PAY for our boxes.
Very disappointed in you IPSY. My daughter did not get the Urban Decay shadow, no “bonus extras” for her.
I showed her your review, she shrugged it off saying “everyone knows bloggers get better boxes than anyone else”

There were actually 3 ways to win the eyeshadow. Referrals, commenting on the Ipsy site a lot and being involved, and entering their FB giveaway for it. I am not a blogger but received a shadow. Maybe get your daughter involved more?

I’m sorry to hear your daughter wasn’t happy with her Ipsy Bag. Me getting this bag was definitely a luck-of-the-draw situation as I paid for this bag myself and have no affiliation with Ipsy. (The Urban Decay eyeshadow add-on bonus was for referring two people). It looks like Ipsy is starting to add more variety to their boxes – just like Birchbox. And like Birchbox, I’m thinking that will mean there will be a variety of box values each month.

Ipsy doesn’t know that I am a nail blogger, so in my opinion, I don’t think it makes any bit of difference as to what goes into each bag. The little extras that were in some bags were because those people got people to sign up under them so they did extra work to earn those little extras. I tried to get people to sign up, but didn’t quite make it, but I’m happy for those who did. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter feels that bloggers get special treatment. Some companies may do that, but I’m not sure that Ipsy is one of them. At least, for me, I know they haven’t made any difference at all. I pay just like everyone else does and I get the same thing everyone else does.

I got SIX items plus a replacement pouch from April. I think I got 2 Juice Beauty lip glosses in FIG by mistake, but I love the color! I also got Nu-Me hair serum, ZOYA polish in Neely (pale green), YABY concealer in vanilla (I have olive skin but I can use it as a highlighter:), & the Pacifica island vanilla. I lOVE it all!

Reply ButtonReply

Mel

Wait, were we supposed to get the replacement bag if we got the white bag last month? I didn’t get one…

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

I really don’t know why or who was supposed to get them. I got a white plastic one last month, and they sent an empty cloth one along with May’s chevron bag, but i never made a complaint because April was my first bag ever.

Tara

Your box was way better than mine!! Jealous!

Laura

How do you get bonus/add-on items?

I didn’t get the urban decay shadow 🙁 I’m really sad I loved the color. My lipstick is too dark. Ugh… Sad panda

jessica

ha…of course it is since i just cancelled my subscription last month!!! 🙁

OOH I’m jealous of that lipstick!! My bag was a little bit different – didn’t get the brow gel or the lipstick. Did get a Juice Beauty lip gloss that’s really pretty on me (if I do say so myself!) and some Pacifica coconut shimmery body butter (not bronzing though) instead. My nail polish was mint green, which threw me a little, but I think I’ll try it on my toes! I was also surprised by how much I liked the concealer – I’m probably going to order it!

I think this might be the first time the Ipsy bags are different? It’s one thing I HATE about Birchbox because my friends inevitably get better things than I do. Even though I loved everything in my Ipsy bag, I do hope Ipsy doesn’t start doing it all the time. It’s a drag to have bag envy! 🙂

I love mine! This is my first month and I’m happy. Got a lip gloss instead of the brow gel. Love the vanilla fragrance and the gloss and lip sheer are great colors for me. The concealer is the only “meh” for me. I’ll have to try the color I got – honey – bit it looks too dark for me, so we’ll see.

Jessica

my bag was very similar except i received the Zoya in Blu and got the ST. Tropez bronzer instead of the brow gel. oh! and the UD in Glitter Rock. overall, this was an outstanding month for me with Ipsy. i’m very pleased.

Amanda

I am surprised at how different the bags are! I like how we all get variety, like with Birchbox, but I am feeling a little envious of some of the things you got – and I loved almost everything I in my bag! I think Ipsy just might be another sub worth having more than one account.

Reply ButtonReply

Catherine

Mine was pretty similar to what you got..I think the only things different were that I got the Tahitian Gardenia roll-on (which is awesome), and I didn’t get to have the extra Urban Decay shadow (aww). This was my first Ipsy so I’m pretty happy with it.

Reply ButtonReply

I also got the concealer in buff and my Zoya was purple (Julie). Otherwise my bag was completely different. I got the Mirabella Perfecting Powder, the Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss (it’s a darker color but smells like oranges), and the Pacifica Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter. Just the value on the perfecting powder alone is $30 so I think it was very much worth the $10 this month. I was kind of hoping for the Vanilla perfume since I love vanilla, but I’ll give the body butter a try. After all, trying new things out is what Ipsy is about, right? :0)
