Ipsy June 2013 Review - Monthly Makeup Subscription Service

Ipsy is a monthly makeup and beauty subscription service. My favorite things about Ipsy? They send full-sized makeup, and it only costs $10!

The Box: Glam Bag by Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products.

Ipsy June 2013 Review - Monthly Makeup Subscription Service

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil - Value $18

NYX Cream Blush in Bronze Goddess - Value $6

I'm more comfortable with powder blushes, but I will definitely give this cream blush a try! Also - I'm thrilled to have a new highlighter pencil - unlike eyeliner pencils, I don't typically find this in subscription boxes!

J.cat Sparkling Cream Palette in Volta - Value $4.49

Ipsy June 2013 Review - Monthly Makeup Subscription Service

Cailyn Eyeliner in Iron - Value $21

I now have this eyeliner in 3 different colors thanks to Wantable and Blush Mystery Beauty Box - and I'm thrilled! It's a great product and it's free from harmful ingredients like parabens and synthetic fragrance!

Bauble Bar Bracelet - Value $18 ?

I received this bracelet as a bonus item for referring two friends. Between this wrap bracelet and the bracelet from the Blush Mystery Beauty Box, I have the start to a Bauble Bar arm party!

Verdict: Another great box from Ipsy! I also really liked the quality of the makeup bag this month! I paid $10 for this bag and received over $60 worth of makeup product (not counting the bracelet). What did you think of the June Ipsy bag? I still think the May bag is my favorite of all time!

I’m with you on May still being my favorite bag. I just really hated this bag this month. I felt like they needed to put a warning in the bag about the body glitter because when I see palettes like that, I instantly think they’re eye shadow. That’s definitely the most childish thing I’ve ever received from them. Everything else is kinda eh. I LOVE the bag though!

Ugh. I cancelled my subscription less than an hour after receiving my bag. Everything was essentially the opposite of what my profile says I prefer. Body glitter? My profile says my style is Simple and Natural. Peach blush? Not unless I like the jaundice look. Taupe lip liner? I’ll save it for the next time I dress up as a zombie.

Sure, it was $10, but there’s nothing more of a letdown than getting off the waitlist, receiving the package 2 weeks after it shipped, and discovering that nothing is usable. I emailed them to ask to send it back for a refund, since they clearly don’t tell the truth that they “personalize” the selections, but the response had NOTHING to do with my email, which proves they don’t read anything. I also noted that on their June bag message board, they wrote the same three comments on every post to which they respond.

Sort of one-size-fits all, like the bags.

Thank you!! I agree!! The Ipsy people are NOT reading the profiles (which is a shame because they are one of the rare ones who ask for one)… I received products that I did not “sign-up” for in the profile. I received the eyeliner when I did not check that as something I wanted. I also received colours that were tan as I am pale. Ipsy has SERIOUSLY disappointed me which bumms me because from what was posted in the past they seemed like they were spot-on and could do no wrong.

Seriously, you guys think the bag was quality? I thought it (as well as the one from May) was cheap in quality–I’d hate to see the April one that they had to recall!!. I loved the concept for both but they were so chintzy in quality. I’d rather just a box (I keep and use the Glossy boxes).

I’m giving it one more month (I’ve only received May and June) and if I’m as disappointed then I’m saying no thank you for any further Ipsy bags (Nicole there may be a spot for you soon!!).

At any rate, I sent my friend a bunch of my cast-offs and I know she’ll be able to use the products. It’s a shame because if they did read the profiles and sent the appropriate products then I’d be happy. Oh well. I’m glad others are happy because that’s what these boxes are for!! 🙂

P.S. I do have the cailyn eyeliner (in iron) and I don’t think I’ll use. I tried another eye liner the other day and it just didn’t work… so, if someone wants it, let me know. We can do a tradesy or something like that.

Yes! This bag was the worst! I cant use the shadows because they look like a baby prostitute would wear them, i have a olive caramel skin and that hot pink blush would have looked horrendous on my. The dry shampoo def not for my texture. So i emailed them onlu to get a sorry you should change your profile then. Wtf?????

wendy

Where did u hear that they recalled the April bag? I have that one and I don’t see anything wrong with it, what was the reason to recall? U should have seen and smelled the ones when they were called My Glam. Most of them smelled so bad, I just tossed them in the trash and then the one that had glitter falling off of it, oh my!

Ashy

I got almost the EXACT same bag as you for the SECOND month in a row, lol. We must have given similar quiz answers. I did however get a powder blush in Desert Rose, which is WAY too pink for me! I love my bag otherwise 🙂

@allcapsERINN

I just need to say it in all caps: I’M SO JEALOUS OF THE PEOPLE WHO GOT CAILYN EYELINER! I tried the Chocolate Espresso when I got it in my Blush box and then promptly ordered it in a plum color. But dang, it’s expensive (for me). It’s cool to see it’s 30% off on Ipsy right now though.

Instead of eyeliner, I got, drumroll please, a travel-sized sample of DRY SHAMPOO! Seriously? That DOES NOT EVEN COMPARE! I now have enough dry shampoo to go around and spray-wash everybody’s hair! Not that I’m complaining (well, I guess I am a little), but enough with the dry shampoo already.

I was so excited when I looked down in my bag and saw what looked like an eyeshadow palette, only to be like, “Happy Halloween?” when I took it out. Mine are bronze and gold tones. I do think I’m going to have fun with them, though.

I also got the mosaic NYX blush. Love.

TBH, despite all my b*tching, I really loved this bag this month. Everything in it was an awesome size. I will continue to be passionately in love with Ipsy. I just wish they didn’t “customize” the bags now. What is it about my profile that makes them think I have greasy, unwashed hair?? LOL I might email them and ask them.

Thanks for letting me vent! 😀

The blush I received was the mosaic blush – everything else was the same as your items. I’m a little surprised with the glitter “eyeshadow” – I may need to experiment with it under some regular eyeshadow or something. This is my second Ipsy bag and overall, I’m VERY happy with them!! I also received my Target Beauty Box and Kona Kase today!! 😉

The glitter isn’t actually supposed to be used as eyeshadow or eyeliner. I tried it anyway and it didn’t work at all.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

Just wanted to let everyone know that the glitter is *not* eyeshadow – Ipsy posted something about it on their fb page. I guess it’s “body glitter”? Seems like something I’d shove in the back of my makeup drawer and pull out for Halloween!

Diane

Even though it is only $10 which is super reasonable…glitter eye shadow and false eyelashes?? for a ‘mature’ woman?? Ipsy needs to read the profiles they ask for from each of us!!

Renee

Kind of a mixed bag for me. I know the theme is “wild side” but that glitter eye shadow is hideous. I can’t imagine anyone over the age of 16 wearing it – so it’s going to my nieces who are 13 and 15 🙂 My eyeliner is a very pretty purple, which will work for me. I got the powder blush in a nice shade of pink. I never wear lip liner, but this one is a very nice color so I’m going to give it a try. Not sure what to do with the highlighter pencil, but I’ll give it a try too. Really for $10 it’s still worth it. I still can’t get over the eyeshadow though – that’s so screams “teenager” I can’t believe they approved it.

I love that you get your boxes before me so I know what to expect!!! Liked this bag but loved loved loved the actual bag itself!!!

I love Ipsy, I also got my conscious box today, my pop sugar box and my Stitch Fix box. I have to say I’m loving everything and the Stitch Fix was more then I could hope for. Very pleased with them

Nicole

This bag looks amazing! I’m bummed because I’m still on the ipsy wait list.

I got the exact same bag except I got a mosaic blush instead of cream. Ipsy really hit it out of the park for me this month! The Birchbox I received today on the other hand….UGH!

Reply ButtonReply

Shanna

I actually *loved* the Birchbox this month, except for the nail polish; I got the neon orange, which went to my nine-year-old. I contacted CS because the shampoo leaked a little and I decided to also say the polish color was icky. They asked me which color I would have preferred, and are sending replacements!

On the other side, Ipsy CS completely annoyed and disappointed me.

Karen

Birchbox does have the best CS!! I ordered the special Mother’s day box (for myself–and I’m only a mom to a cat), and the highlighter was MIA (it was the item I wanted the most) and they not only got the highlighter to me, but they also gave me a credit for my inconvenience. Very cool of them, I thought!! They also did this is a short amount of time. That’s really awesome that they are sending you another colour. UGH, the IPSY colour I got in may is HORRIBLE and despite hearing such FAB things about the polish it was gloppy and just plain sloppy!! I used my BirchBox purple (now looking kind of pinkish/purple) colour last night and I’m VERY impressed!!

Razpop

I’m so jealous of your bag! I wish I got the eyeliner instead of the stupid lip pencil!

I Just got mine today and was so Happy! But instead of the eyeliner I got the Dry Shampoo.. Since you already have 3 can we trade.. hehe 🙂

I wish I got the highlighter pencil. I haven’t received my bag yet, but on my glam room it shows the fake eyelashes. Between the body glitter and fake eyelashes, I’m rolling my eyes. My profile says Natural and Professional, so I don’t think they’re even looking at it.

Reply ButtonReply

Wendy

I totally agree, I don’t think they use our profile at all. I think it’s just a gimmick. I have the highlighter and some other items on my Blog Sale, Miranda. Blog-Blue Skies for Me Please.

You got the bag I wanted! I received the hot pink cream blush, wishing I had received a bronzed or mosaic. I received the Tipsy pencil that is too coral for my olive skin. Pale or Bare would have been perfect. I received the Plum liner having preferred the Iron color. I was really wishing to get the highlighter pencil instead the dry shampoo. I love highlighter pencils. I wanted that so bad. Somehow I feel my bio was ignored. I feel $10 is still a bargain nonetheless. I like Ipsy just these colors are so off for me. I will swap anyone who would have preferred my colors.

sarah

even if the cream blush doesnt work for you, it would make a beautiful eyeshadow base!

Reply ButtonReply

Kali

That’s such a good idea! I wasn’t sure about the bright pink blush I received – but an eyeshadow base is a fantastic idea – thanks for sharing!

I received the Pssst Dry shampoo, purple eyeliner (so excited), bright pink cream blush, tickle me pink lip liner (iffy on this one) and the body glitter. I think the body glitter is just piece-y enough that I can add it to my collar bones or shoulders on a night out – I’m looking forward to trying to make that work – it’s new for me! Possibly I might just add it to my hair – a little light catching sparkle! And I love getting these bags! I have a big life bag I carry everywhere and these little bags are organizing everything I have in the big bag 🙂

Shoot, I would have loved dry shampoo rather than the glitter! Or a cream blush that I could have used as eyeshadow, rather than “Peachy” blush that would look awful on me!
