Each box comes with a letter from Shannon explaining the items and the theme for the month. January's theme is Fat & Fiction - good habits for right before you go to sleep.
There's also a self check-in with every box. This month's self check in is about your relationship with yourself.
Gone Girl - Retail Value $25
This book has been on my and my husband's must-read list forever, and I usually need someone to literally hand me a book to get me to start reading it, so I'm thrilled that this was in the box. I've heard different reactions to the book - it seems like you either love it or hate it, but either way it's a really good read.
Dr. Bronner's Magic Organic Fair Trade Coconut Oil - Value $11
WoodWare Wooden Spoons (50) - Value $10
I love coconut oil (especially organic and fair trade coconut oil) so this item was another win for me. I'm not sure if I'll do the one spoonful before bedtime routine, but I'll at least give it a try! (It's supposed to curb insulin dips).
Verdict: I thought the January Mama's Got Mail was very unique and I lucked out because I love all the items. This box has a retail value of about $46, but I think this box is more about taking time for yourself and reflecting (with the help of the self-check ins), so while I wouldn't consider it a good box for value-seekers, I think it's a good subscription if you're looking for a reminder to have some "me time" each month. (And if you sign up for the 6-month or 12-month subscription it's much cheaper per box).
