ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Card

After posting about ModCloth's Stylish Surprise a few days ago, it took me a few minutes of reading comments to get swept up in the excitement and I had to buy! (I used to work at ModCloth, so this is the first time I was able to actually buy one since this mystery box is never eligible for employee purchase). Needless to say, I was double excited for this box to show up!

The Box: ModCloth Stylish Surprise (Currently size small in apparel is still available).

The Cost: $5 for a Mystery Accessory item, $10 for Clothing, and $10 for shoes

The Products: Anything and everything that ModCloth sells - ranging from $9.99 t0 $299.99!

Ships to: Everywhere!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Shoe Boxes

Since I hate paying shipping - even if it is only $4 - I decided to get 3 pairs of shoes and 2 apparel items for $50 so I could get free shipping. (The accessories had already sold out by the time I placed my order).

First up - the shoes:

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Chelsea Crew

Chelsea Crew T-Straps - Value $65

These aren't available for purchase anymore, but similar styles are all the same price, so I feel confident about that value estimate!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Side View

I actually own a few pair of Chelsea Crew shows, so I was happy to see the brand in the box! I don't think these are a perfect fit though, so I may end up swapping/gifting them.

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Heels

Styluxe Heels - Value $50

I can't find these shoes anywhere online, so I'm guessing on the price.

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Heels Side

They have a great retro look to them, but can't wear heels without a strap to keep my foot in my shoe - so again swap or gift!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Boots

Qupid Boots - Value $45

Yay for boots! These fit great and I love the style too - finally a win!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Clothing

Now onto my two apparel mystery items:

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Pink Dress

YA Strappy Dress - Value $50?

This dress is cute from the front...

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Dress Back

And a real bra-puzzler from the back! I think I may try it over a black body-con slip dress though, because the color is fun and the fit is flattering.

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Box Review Tulle

Tulle Print Dress -Value $70

This seems like the perfect dress for any special occasions this spring. And I like the brand Tulle too! (This is normally a pretty bright print for me, and I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had seen it online, but after trying it on I think it is my favorite item in the box!)

Verdict: I paid $50 for this box and received nearly $300 worth of items. Even though about half the items aren't perfect for me - I think I'm hooked on Stylish Surprise boxes now! Did your Stylish Surprise box show up yet? What did you get?

FYI - you can swap Stylish Surpise items, and if you got items you want to share with the group, email me pictures and I'll add them to the post! (I really want to see what everyone gets!)

I ordered one of the apparel surprise box and got a cute fall dress, but it was a size L instead of the S that I specified. πŸ™ I emailed them and I hope they can help me out, especially since it was not a mistake on my end.

I tried to follow the link on the blog for the modcloth box but nothing comes up :(. Is it no longer available?

Sorry – it sold out pretty quickly. πŸ™

Do you know if/when it will happen again?

I hit the jackpot, receiving a $300 pair of J Shoes Empire boots in a style I’ve been wanting for a long time. Boots usually don’t fit me because I have large calves, but these lace up so I was able to adjust them to fit me. http://www.shopjshoes.com/women-c2/boots-c8/womens-tall-black-leather-boots-a8403-p164

While I did not love all of my stylish surprises I did get an amazing pair of shoes and swapped my other items for things I’d really been wanting! Liz, I am addicted to your website and the swap section makes mystery boxes a no brainier for me! You’re the best!!

I loved my box! After reading all the reviews I was hesitant on what my box would hold. I received a super cute pair of boots, black flats with a strap, a black work dress with lace in the back, dark brown coat and a blue and brown dress that would go perfect with the shoes. Trying them on later…fingers crossed.

I received a pink and black lace dress that was very tight and short. Not my style so I might swap or alter by adding a lace/tulle skater skirt that provides a little more coverage. It’s cut-out back with some pink tulle in the waist, peplum-style. I couldn’t find it online. I loved the second item. I received a maroon toggle winter coat with a detachable hood. I (unfortunately but kind of fortunately) got to wear it today in the awful snow this morning in Connecticut. I love it. So worth the $10!

I ended up selling my awful dress on poshmark for $20. And gave the boots to my mother who actually liked them. Totally done with modcloth.

Does anyone have a idea on where to find those Qupid boots? I’ve fallen in love and it doesn’t look like they are still on the website

Crystal Ann

I usually buy Qupid boots from Charlotte Russe. They carry quite a few Qupid brand shoes.

Nevermind I found a pair on Amazon

This was my first experience shopping with ModCloth but it certainly won’t be my last! I’m just bummed that I only ordered one of each of the Clothing and Shoe boxes (the Accessory box and the Apartment boxes were sold out before I could snag them)! I pretty much loathe the clothing item – a “medium” top that is pretty much an XL in the style and the color of a Home Depot apron. BUT, I am so thrilled with my shoe surprise that who cares about the not so cute top?! I received a pair of knee length Lucky Brand boots in brown leather. They have laces to mid-calf but zippers the length of the boot. I found them at Macy’s where they were listed with an original retail price of $199. Can’t wait to wear them! http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/lucky-brand-ria-lace-up-boots?ID=1021981

Got my box today & LOVE IT!! My clothing items were a black see-through shirt with lace at the neck & sleeves and a red & white striped nautical style dress. My shoes are 2 pairs of black boots, one slip on & one lace up. The accessories were a peach to orange necklace & a pair of red earrings with anchors on them.
I like everything & I’m glad I ordered. I’d definitely do it again.

I received a lovely red calf-length skirt with button-on straps, so it could be worn as a jumper. It’s fully lined an good quality. The shoes though, were a dud. Mint green moccasins that were too narrow. The left shoe had a dirty and scuffed toe–I think they were someone else’s return!

I got mine today and though the anticipation was fun, I’m a bit disappointed. After seeing all the high end dresses and shoes other people received, I was let down by the poor quality of my clothing items. I got a rainbow striped/black lace top dress, a tribal print see thru top, a green print cotton dress, and a flowy mint top with lace accents (which was my favorite thing in the box). My shoes were a pair of Pierre Dumas boots with diagonal zippers. Not only do they look plastic and cheap, they smell gross (they’re actually stinking up my apartment and I’m considering throwing them away). Out of 5 things ordered, I can’t believe I didn’t get 1 higher end thing. But . . . that’s the chance I took and I’m ok with it. πŸ™‚

Order size large, they sent a medium sized item (only got one item) so told hem, they credit my account $10 so not to shabby

How often do they so this sale? I missed out this time but want to be ready for the next one!

I got my stylish surprise shoe box yesterday and I loved what I got! I got a pair of dark brown leather Qupid boots and they fit nice. I got really lucky!

Ugh, my box was a dud! I think I’m over these “stylish” surprise boxes. I got a floral dress that is about 10 years too young for me and some little moto booties that aren’t bad, just not my style. That being said the dress is really cute on and has a great fit. Just about to put them up in the swap section.

I am so happy for everyone that was satisfied with their orders. For me, it was a nightmare πŸ™ I ordered three boxes: shoes, accessory, and a clothing box. Well, I got the shoes and the clothing item, but no accessory. They simply forgot to include it, and now, since they are sold out, I am pretty much out of luck for the accessory… Then I opened the shoes (super cute summertime flats!), tried them on, and was like “uh, that’s not my size”. I got an 8.5 instead of 7.5!! Seriously, that’s 2 out of 3 that got screwed up. I was so irate and called them, but the girls that answered the calls (I called twice, once for the accessory missing, and the other time for the wrong shoe size, since I did not realize that was also the issue originally) were so sweet that I could not yell at them. They will be refunding for the missing accessory box, and for the wrong shoe size, and offered to let me keep the shoes to see if I can swap them. And so I will. Great customer service, but bad packing jobs… Oh well.

So sorry things didn’t go well, It’s tough when you like what you got but can’t use it. At least you’d have something to laugh at if you hated it.

I received a beautiful form fitted wool coat. Although a large, the two front edges are 4 inches apart! I’d have to lose 20-30 pounds to get this coat to close! What a bummer. I may put it on Ebay…

Wow! Great fun! I hope I luck out and get in on it the next time they do this. I got TWO winder coats, one a Jessica Simpson hip length thick weave wool type blend, very nice quality in a great red.
http://www.amazon.com/Jessica-Simpson-Plus-Size-Textured-Breasted/dp/B00DUSHYY4/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1396044116&sr=1-1&keywords=jessica+simpson+coat+JOEWA576

The second coat is a mid calf length burgundy wool like blend, sort of like hounds tooth pattern, also thick and warm, brand name Azalea, which I was not able to find online, maybe Burlington? It has a large faux fur collar that is removable.
It’s sort of like this one, but with a larger collar and longer length.
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/24910604162619586/

Also a summer dress, thin, that looks too small but we’ll see. Then knee length brown boots which fit at the shoe but my calves are way too big for boots like this, and a pair of adorable Victorian style boot/shoes which are a little tight but I’d kill myself wearing them anyway because I haven’t worn heels in years. I figure I got $2-300 usable value for sure!!!!! Too bad the temp is in the 70s here already.

I am sure winder coats are great, but I actually got winter coats.
I am getting an additional $10 worth of fun just seeing what everybody else got too!

Hey! I just received my box and got a lovely blue and black dress!!! (http://www.darlingclothes.com/product/darling/kate-dress/7612/?cid=254&Col=17) I love it! The fit is very flattering, but a bit low cut which is fine as I can put a black tank top underneath. I really wish I got more boxes now. πŸ™ Thank you for giving us the heads up and thanks again for all the comments to order up a size! πŸ™‚

OH LORD, I got a red gingham circle skirt with suspenders and I can’t stop laughing at it. Maybe I’ll cut it up and use it as a picnic table cloth. Bummed but I knew it was going to be a huge risk. I would have been really surprised if I would have gotten something cool.

I felt the same way when I got a bright pink duster sweater made with yarn plus this weird looking pink feathery thread sticking out everywhere to give it texture. I think I’m going to make it into a catnip filled pillow for my cats, it’s super soft. I bought 3 things, I think this is the best strategy because $30 isn’t too high for one great find so your odds go up a little because you’re not throwing all your risk into one item. But I could totally see not doing this again because of the risk- it was fun though!

Jenny

I think I would totally wear that skirt. I love gingham.

I got my apparel one today and was so excited (it’s been sitting at USPS for a couple days). I ended up getting this dress.
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/high-socie-tea-dress-in-floral
It will be great for Easter time as well as days I just want to spend it the sun. I was so excited to find out that it was worth $129. Not something I would have picked out for myself but I definitely can see myself wearing it a lot this Spring! (Once it finally stops snowing.)

Just got mine and man I cleaned up! Got a $120!!! coat, a pair of tan ankle boots that retail for almost $40, and a really pretty necklace. (Got one of each type). I also ordered two other clothing bags in a second order, but haven’t gotten them yet. Best steal ever.

I’m so so so SOOO bummed I missed out. Everything was already sold out before I could get there. I so hope they put out more stylish surprise boxes! Is there a way to know when they’ve been released other than going to the Modcloth site every 5 minutes?

I got 2 dresses. One is a strapless green lace with tiny sparkly gold polka dots and the other is a tight black velvet sheath, with some mesh areas. Theres a floral burn out pattern in the black velvet too. I love them both, but the black doesn’t fit! I hope I get off the swap waitlist soon because it’s REALLY cute. I got a pair of burgundy booties with gold zippers and a pair of heels in which the toe is cream and the heel is burgundy and the straps wrap around your ankle. I love both pairs! The heels aren’t too terribly high either. I was hoping for clothes a little less formal, but overall I’d call it a win even if the one dress doesn’t fit.
