Sample Society Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Review

Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine. Typically the brands they include are high end, and the sample sizes are generous. I recommend this box for anyone who is looking for a skincare beauty sample box with the occasional hair or makeup item.

There are usually 7 variations or so of each month’s box. For reference I got the Kit A box.(You can find the Kit letter under your order history).

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Items

The Subscription Box: Sample Society

The Cost: $15 a month

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty and makeup samples. (Each month you also get a $15 off $50 to use on any order containing a product from any of the brands in your box).

Check out all of my Sample Society reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box Directory!

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Clips

Jane Tran Hair Clips - Value $3.50

MD SolarSciences SPF 30 Mineral Tinted Creme - .08 oz Value $1.50

This tinted sunscreen goes on so smoothly, and I'd say it's very similar in coverage to a typical BB Cream.

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - March 2014 CC

Alterna Caviar CC Cream - .85 oz Value $8.50

I love Alterna haircare products, and I've already sampled this CC cream and used it up completely, so I'm thrilled to have another one! It has an amazing scent, and makes my hair super soft.

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - March 2014 Bliss

Oscar Blandi Texture & Volume Spray - 1 oz Value $6

Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream - 1 oz Value $9

I just tried out this volume spray and IT WORKS! It turns out a little goes a long way - on the first try I over-sprayed my hair and I'm now dealing with 80's hair.

Verdict: I paid $15 for this box and received about $28.50 worth of products. This is actually a lower value Sample Society box compared to past boxes, but I love that every sample included is a good size, and I think I'll use everything - so the value is great for me.

What did you get from Sample Society this month?

My kit hasn’t arrived, but my profile is saying I’m getting Kit I. I have no idea what’s in that, so if anyone got that I’d love to get a head’s up. It’s stuck somewhere between Illinois and here, and UPS is sayin I won’t get it until the 17th.

I got kit K and was less than impressed. I think I will only be able to use two of the items included… the two skincare ones. I would have loved that Bliss cream and the volumizer but sadly they were not in my packet.

Liz and Company,

Quick question, does anyone know how to look into their account to see what each other Kit letter offers? Not just your Kit type but all seven kit letters? I love Sample beauty – but they keep sending me mattifying products instead of products formulations for dry skin. I have called customer service and they stated that my box was given to me because of my age(fair enough, I am on the older demographic, 40) and not necessarily for my skin type I love the brands, I just keep getting the wrong products for my skin type. I often trade with a coworker who has combo skin and gets dry products.

Any wise, sage, Sample Beauty subscribers who can offer advice on getting the right box type/letter? Does anyone get a box kit letter for just dry skin?

Thanks in advance, Ladies!

Hello,

I have been subscribing for almost a year and the majority of my kits are Kit E, with a Kit A and Kit B on occasion.

I’ve been a member for five months, and I’ve received two Cs (Nov, and Dec), one E (January), one J (this month), and one D (February).

Which Kit number did you get? I’m in your age group, and got K–which had three of the same items as Liz’s, but not the Bliss or Oscar (hair), but I had gotten a hair product last time.

I got the volume spray (thanks for the heads up on how much to use! 😉 ), the CC hair cream which I’m excited to try, the clips in a purple shade, the Tantasia (I’m meh about since I don’t care to tan, would have liked the tinted sunscreen instead, I had melanoma last year so that would have better suited me) and a Murad clarifying cleanser which I’m excited to try.

All in all I was satisfied with the box! This is my third month and so far I’ve been happy with them.

I’ve seen that hand cream somewhere, but I can’t remember for the life of me. This winter has really sapped my skin worse than ever and I’m looking for some good hand cream. Any word on the Bliss?

I didn’t get the 80’s look spray but you box looks phenomenal! I got the veggie cleaner, CC cream for hair, Jane iredale Tantasia which hardly has a drop in it!, the barrettes and Diptyque toilette spray, a little different combo but I will try hem out and see how they work! : )

I got this box too. I was disappointed as I never use fake tan, and I think yet another perfume sample is a cop-out. I expect better from Sample Society. Hope they up their game next month!

Sneaky Burrito

Wow, I actually got something on the same day as everyone else for once!

I got the self-tanner (not normally something I would use, but I’ll put it on my legs and see what I think, and then just wear long pants if it looks funny). Got the hair CC cream. (Just put it in after a shower, it smells nice but I can’t tell how it works yet.) Got an Elemental Herbology moisturizer. Got some hair accessories. And Korres lip gloss.

I am having a hard time keeping track of stuff, though. I have the contents of at least three boxes strewn all over my dining room table.

I got Kit F which is the same as yours Sneaky Burrito. I am less than impressed with SS this month. All of the samples are extremely small except for the Alterna Hair Creme. I think its par for the course to not always get things you will use but to have the samples be so incredibly small is a real downer.

That 80’s hair part made me LOL!!!! 😉
