Sample Society Subscription Box Review – April 2014

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - April 2014 Box

Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine. Typically the brands they include are high end, and the sample sizes are generous. I recommend this box for anyone who is looking for a skincare beauty sample box with the occasional hair or makeup item.

There are usually 7 variations or so of each month’s box. For reference I got the Kit A box.(You can find the Kit letter under your order history).

The Subscription Box: Sample Society

The Cost: $15 a month

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty and makeup samples. (Each month you also get a $15 off $50 to use on any order containing a product from any of the brands in your box).

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - April 2014 Butter London

Butter London Wink Eye Pencil in Holland Park - FULL SIZE! Value $18

I love it when one of the items in a box is worth more than what the entire box cost me! I'm used to only nail polish from Butter London, so I was excited to try out their new makeup line! This color is a little intense for me for everyday wear, but will be great for more glam looks!

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - April 2014 Candle

Illume Anemone 2 oz Travel Tin Candle - Value $5?

Tatcha Japanese Beauty Papers - FULL SIZE! Value $12

I've sampled these Tatcha oil-absorbing facial papers before, and they work great, so I'm happy to have more. I love that this candle is made with soy wax, but the scent isn't for me so it is going in the swap/gift pile.

Sample Society Subscription Box Review - April 2014 Items

Dermalogica Precleanse Wipes (2) - Value $2

H2O Aquafirm Micro Collagen Moisturizer - 10 ml Value $10

These precleanse wipes are great for removing makeup, oil etc. and they are free of any parabens or artificial fragrances!

Verdict: I paid $15 for this box and received about $47 worth of items. I think the April box had a great combination of items, and no tiny sample sizes so I'm very pleased with this month. What did you get in your April Sample Society box?

Yep, after reading your review, and all the comments, I definitely have box envy of those who didn’t get the pink eyeliner lol. I wish mine was brown or even blue! Otherwise, I think this was a great box. I also got the candle, tissue paper, and H2O moisturiser.

I have box envy of those who did get the pink eyeliner. My email and profile said I was going to get it. Then, I opened up my box to find black, boo. I hate black eyeliner, because it is too dark for me. I also got two other boxes with black eyeliner in the same month.

I canceled this box because one of them was stolen. I was away the day the UPS guy left it in the lobby.(after the manager signed for it and left it in the lobby. Now, this is not the fault of Sample Society. I still was upset. I decided I never wanted that to happen again and canceled it.

Mine is coming today & I was actually REALLY excited for my box when I got my “Sneak Peek” email only because of the eyeliner because I love Butter London products. (The rest I could take or leave.) Unfortunately I failed to see that they are sending me a lime green eye liner. Lime Green. What the heck am I going to do with lime green eyeliner?! As you probably could guess, I cancelled today. I get Glossybox & Ipsy so I doubt I will have too much of a void.

I have not been able to sign back up with Sample Society. I used to receive their boxes but we had an issue last year where our debit card was lost and had to have a new one sent. I had this sub put on hold and then just never reactivated it. I sent them an email and received a response telling me to re subscribe with a new account, but they seem to be having issues with their mobile site. I mostly use my tablet and it won’t let you finish the subscription process properly.

Anyway, I keep meaning to call them but I always seem to forget until I see someone review their boxes. Some months I’m bummed that I missed out and then some months I’m glad I passed. SS seems to be very hit or miss now days. It used to be one of my faves, but they don’t seem to have as great of a curation any longer.

I got the same products, but my Butter pencil is a deep purple. SOOOO happy with this box. It’s my second one since making the switch from Ipsy. At $5 more/month, it’s a much better deal. Ipsy kept sending me crappy drugstore brands (NYC every month) and stuff with glitter. I’m 36- no one my age should be putting glitter on their face. This sub box is so much more my style. Plus, that $15 voucher is awesome.

Sooo bummed I missed this box due to the Target credit card debacle. Their site didn’t let me switch to our new card without calling and even though I called somehow things didn’t get switched right, so, my next box is going to be the May one. 🙁

That’s weird. My card (not affected by Target, but my bank tells me it was “compromised” nonetheless) was easily switched out without a phone call by simply going to my account page and changing the payment method.

I have the same box but my eyeliner is pink too. Between this and the PSMH LE box I have gold, blue and pink eyeliners to try out. Hmm… I think I have some googling to do to see how exactly one wears pink eyeliner without looking like they have pink eye.

I was thrilled to get the brown version of the eyeliner. I also got some sort if brightening cream from borghese which I am reluctant to try but will. The candle will hopefully find a new home … Especially since I got the same one in my beauty sage box! The h2o cream us great! Used it tonight and so far I liked it!

I got the Beauty Sage box too, I actually do like the candle scent. It looks like I will have two of them. (Will get used eventually. I like burning candles when I do yoga and I do yoga every day.)

My eye pencil is apparently pink (ah, well, I’ll try it, maybe I’ll find I like it?) and I get the Borghese brightening makeup. Also the H2O+ moisturizer and the Tatcha sheets. (Oddly, the picture in my account is of the dermalogica wipes but lists the candle in text. I should get my box tomorrow so we’ll see which it is!)

I got the candle so I guess they just switched up the images.

My account showed I was getting pink eyeliner but I actually received dark brown. I’m not going to complain about that.

My H2O+ product was full.

Stephanie

Did you open the H20 cream yet? My bottle is practically empty!

Liz Cadman

My dermalogica and candle images are switched in my account too! Weird!

Jessica

This is my first SS box and I can’t wait for it to get here! My profile says I got the same items mainly, except my eyeliner is Jaded Jack and the wipes are replaced with Dr. Hauschka Skin Care Cleansing Cream. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with lime green eyeliner :). I’m kind of hoping to be admitted to the swap site so it can find a new home!
