Sample Society Beauty Subscription Box Review – June 2014

Sample Society Beauty Subscription Box Review - June

Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine. Typically the brands they include are high end, and the sample sizes are generous. I recommend this box for anyone who is looking for a skincare beauty sample box with the occasional hair or makeup item.

There are usually 7 variations or so of each month’s box. For reference I got the Kit C box.(You can find the Kit letter under your order history).

Sample Society Beauty Subscription Box Review - June 2014 Items

The Cost: $15 a month

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty and makeup samples. (Each month you also get a $15 off $50 to use on any order containing a product from any of the brands in your box).

Sample Society Beauty Subscription Box Review - June 2014 H20

Karin Herzog Vita-A-Kombi 2 - 3 ml Value $4.70

Borghese Fango Deep Hydration Finishing Treatment - 15 ml Value $3

H2O Plus Night Oasis Oxygenating Rejuvenator - 8 ml Value $6

Compared to last month's box, these skincare samples seem so small in size and value! I also don't like when skincare samples won't last long enough to see their effects.

Sample Society Beauty Subscription Box Review - June 2014 Purlisse

Orlane Paris Super Moisturizing Concentrate - 3.5 ml Value $7

Pur~lisse Pur~Moist Hydra-Balance Moisturizer - 15 ml Value $16.50

Juliette Has A Gun Anyway Eau de Parfum - Sample Value $1

Even though this Pur-lisse sample is a good size, I'm so spoiled from getting full-sized Purlisse products in so many other subscription boxes that it seems tiny!

Verdict: Eh, this was a bit of a boring Sample Society box for me. All skincare samples + a perfume sample just isn't super fun for me. And the value is pretty low this month compared to other months. (This month's value is about $38, last month's was over $100).

I feel like I'm complaining over a perfectly decent skincare box, but I just wish they had put in one haircare or makeup item to mix things up a little. What did you think of the June Sample Society box?

I was actually intrigued by this box because it gave me a chance to try Karin Herzog without purchasing a full size product. I am also interested in the H20 products and so far like the way this feels on my skin. While the sample sizes were smaller than I would prefer; I like the overall combination of brands. What I did not like in my box was the Supergoop sunscreen that I have received in almost all of my beauty boxes this month. I have more Supergoop than I care to admit and use.

My 1st sample society and I too wasn’t impressed. I got two uses out of the Herzog stuff. I did go for the 5 for 25 special today and am thinking that will be plenty from them. I love moisturizers and skin treatments but I need at least a weeks worth. For those mentioning boxycharm, go for it. You will not be disappointed. Delivery, products – all amazing. I cancelled my GlossyBox in favor of BoxyCharm.

I think I must use moisturizers at a much slower rate than most people. Because even tiny things from Sample Society last me for weeks (used daily). I don’t like to feel product residue on my face later on, though, so use a pretty small amount.

Hair products, on the other hand, last me a very short time. I have very long hair and it’s kind of unruly. So full-sized treatments sometimes only last me a week or two.

Yep … Me too, I still have creams I got 2 years ago. The only one that I seem to be using is the Origins Ginger Cream. It is light and fluffy. That still lasts 3 months. I also go through hair conditioners weekly. So I’m constantly stocking up on them.

I hate to be a broken record, but I agree with all the comments. After the review of the May box I immediately signed up for this box and I’m super disappointed. It doesn’t seem much better than my June birchbox. I know the second I cancel it July will come back and redeem themselves…but I think I’ll save my $15 for something else. I suggest you all do the same

Does anyone else feel like the samples they send are tiny?
This is only my second box but none of my items are big. I wouldn’t classify any of them as deluxe and i haven’t received a full size item yet. I think i’ll give it another month or two before I decide to cancel. I read all of Liz’s past reviews and their were full/deluxe items in those boxes.
I think my $15 would be better spent towards Blush Mystery or Lip Factory or Boxycharm. Those are all full size sub boxes and so far I’ve loved what I’ve received. SS might end up in my Rear view sooner than later.

I found two of my favorite products in previous boxes — I purchased the full size. Other boxes contained at least one item I will use until it is gone and may replace. For me, this the best of my box subscriptions. UNTIL THIS BOX — two perfumes and three moisturizers I can’t use. Much too expensive for nothing useful.

Seriously, Nicole Richie Fragrance? It is “LAYERED WITH SCENTS INSPIRED BY NICOLE’S CHILDHOOD MEMORIES”

WHY???

Lol This was my first box, and I think it was the same as yours! The only thing I’m able to use is the Malin + Goetz. I wouldn’t have paid $15 for it though.

I got the same box… dull dull dull, no even one, tiny little makeup or hair something. I’ll probably give most of these to my mom, as I heve PLENTY of moisterizers. However, SS kind of redeemed itself by offering the 5 for $25… They should be waiting on my doorstep when I get home! Can’t wait to dig through the goodies!

This month was my first Sample Society box & I only received five items in my box. Everything that was in your box except for the Borghese item. Do you think they made a mistake?

Reply ButtonReply

Blessedmommi

Hi Heather,
if you log into your SS account and check your dashboard you’ll be able to view which box was sent to you and which item you’re missing. I would contact them, their pretty good about sending replacements.

Chelsea

Yep, another dull box. Our box is identical except I received red flower face oil instead of the Borghese spray. This is my fifth pur-lisse moisturizer, I feel like an idiot because I actually paid $55 bucks for a tube and now have 4 extra’s! It’s a good moisturizer, but, kinda, meh.
Between this Birchbox, and Marta, which has been terrible. I think I will not renew anything and just live vicariously through your reviews.
By the way, has anyone who purchased Birchbox last month, with a free Kate Spade necklace code, actually received the necklace? My code worked and BB promises it’s on its way. But so far nothing. I order over 6 weeks ago.

Blessedmommi

No Necklace here either. I wrote them last week and they said it was just shipped and would be arriving in the next few days. Still nothing yet 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

S

No sign of the necklace yet. I’m super irritated!

Reply ButtonReply

Chelsea

Yeah, it will be really interesting to see if any subscribers get this necklace! I recall it was either use the 20 percent off code or receive the necklace. If the necklace doesn’t show, I am going to press BB into giving me 20 percent off, as I purchased a yearly gift subscription to get the necklace.

Christine

Same for me, no necklace. My subs this month are so moisturizer heavy.. that is great in November – Feb but right now dryness is not an issue.

Lynn

First month with Sample Society and I am very disappointed. Maybe they will get it together for next month. I’ll give it one more….

I unsubbed from SS 3 months ago and I’m so glad I did. I can’t believe they gave you 4 face moisturizers. I love skincare but you can’t only use so much moisturizer.

Sneaky Burrito

I got this box, too. I did think it was a little weird to get 5 things that are all basically moisturizers, though I’m excited about the Karin Herzog. I tried some Karin Herzog eye cream once that was awesome (but outside my price range).

I also have a lot of Purlisse. Will be getting more since I ordered the Total Beauty Collection you posted about today. Third straight month I’ve gotten something from Borghese although it’s different products each time (and I’m happy to have a break from Murad for awhile). I’m OK with perfume samples. I will never have to buy an actual bottle of perfume again, I can just keep using samples I get here and from Birchbox and with Sephora and Ulta orders.

But, you know, I’m not terribly disappointed in the end. Even though it was a lower-value box, as Sample Society goes, and lacking variety, I will be able to use everything in it (eventually). That’s better than I can say for some other boxes (i.e., anything with fake eyelashes).

I got the same box and I’m meh about it too. If it was my first box I’d be happy with the skincare but I’ve accumulated quite a bit lately so I think I’m going to have to stop getting subscription boxes for a bit and use up what I have. I’ll probably give SS one more month though. Being that its summer now I’d really love to see some sunscreen samples but I’ve yet to see any.

I’m with y’all, boring box. I usub and even emailed them to see if I could return my box unopened. Yup I was willing to pay the $3 shipping to return the items for the $15 credit. They said they couldn’t do that but offered me a $5 credit to spend on their site which will sit there.

I’ve been trying all the beauty boxes and have decided none are giving me cosmetics, except Ipsy but they are for the younger crowd and I was getting a lot dups. I The reason I went with Sample Society is they have such a huge variety and they carry the Gorgeous cosmetic line, I was hoping to get a sample from them.

For me, I’m liking Popsugar the best for a “treat” for the buck as all the items are full size, different, and if I don’t like them, make great gifts. Grant it I am a makeup junkie so I’ll keep trying to find one or just take the $15 a month a put it in a makeup envelope and go splurge at Sephora or Norstroms (I am waiting for the Haute Beauty lipstick bag that was on sale, now that is a good deal).

I feel ripped off by this box.

Some of the Gorgeous cosmetic line are on sale on beauty bar’s site. HTH! I was thinking about subscribing to SS… after reading the reviews I’m still torn. Thanks for sharing everyone. Have a great weekend!

This was my first and last SS box. It was so “blah” in my opinion. I was hoping for 1 really great full-sized sample, instead, I got five tiny moisturizer’s. I totally agree with you Cheyrl……

I totally agree with Cheryl!!

I’ve been a SS subscriber from the start and was always so pleased. The last three or four months have been boring and repetitive. I unsubbed last month and don’t regret it. Plus, I never used my $15 gift card. The one time my box had something I wanted to buy (the Suki exfoliator), they were sold out. Meh. I feel you!

The $15 off coupon I also did not use, because to get free shipping you have to at least spend $49 or more. The blush box offers free shipping on any order + 10% off any order when you “favorite” an item on their site, then place the “favorite” item(s) in your shopping bag.

I wish I got this over my June birchbox. I wish I got anything other than my birchbox.

Your box was better then mine. My June box was my first box, and I was bored with it, everything in the box is up for swap. I also cancled my subscription. Think I’m gonna get BoxyCharm. If anyone knows of a good coupon code, I’d be interested.

I’ve gotten to point, that I want to see at least 1 full size product in any sample box. Beautybox5 in my oppinion is so much better, and for the same price as Sample Society, there is Petit Vour, another one of my favorites. I’m sick of seeing H2O and Pur~lisse in almost every box. Sunscreen is fine since it is the summer yet anything other Pur~lisse face cream I wish box companies would hold off till September.

Boxycharm’s box this month is amazing! Sadly though I don’t think they have ever offered promo codes.

Christine

Same for me, June was my first box and I’m un subbing. I got exactly what is listed in this review but mine said Kit A. Teeny samples aside from Purlisse but I’m sick of that already as I don’t have dry skin and it has come in 2 other boxes I sub to.
