BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Polish

Cult Cosmetics & BoxyCharm Nail Polish Shady Collection - Value $21 total

This set is launching in BoxyCharm boxes, and it is very appropriate for Halloween! The bottles are kind of tiny (.25 oz), but that works for me since I don't wear dark colors that often.

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Eyeliner

STARLOOKS Ultra Gem Pencil in Ultra Turquoise - Value $14

Be a Bombshell Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Always a Bridesmaid - Value $14

This eye liner goes on smooth and is very pigmented. The color is a shimmery robin's egg blue. I can't do a fuchsia pink eye look though, so this eyeshadow will be swapped or gifted.

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Serum

Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster & Restoration Serum - Value $48

Getting a full-size skincare item in a box is always a huge win for me since I'll be able to use it for weeks and actually get to see if I get results! This serum is made with natural and organic ingredients, so I'm hoping it's a winner!

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – October 2014 Palette

Coastal Scents Eclipse Concealer Palette - Value $19.95 (On Sale for $14.95)

I was pretty excited to try out this palette - contouring is one of those makeup tricks I've always wanted to try but never got around to buying the different colored concealers I would need to actually do it. I did my first attempt at contouring today, and I definitely need to watch a few more youtube tutorials! I like the formula of the concealers though - they were very easy to blend out.

Verdict: I'm pretty much always impressed with BoxyCharm these days, and the October box is another good box for me! This month's box has a value over $115 too - amazing!

Has anyone else had a problem with receiving 2 boxes in the same month? I received my October box last week, then on Friday I received an email that my October box was shipping. Indeed they have charged me twice for the same box, even though I only have 1 subscription.

I did love the October box but not my favorite so far. I have not attempted to try the polish yet so I hope I can correct the brushes as they instructed to. The concealer palette I just started working with since I just finished the one I have been using. I think you need to blend it fast or it will dry up. The tutorial that Boxycharm showed was very helpful in knowing what colors should be used for what. the BAB eye shadow I received was more of a neutral color which I am ok with, I would have loved any color since I love to experiment. I received the olive green eyeliner also and it is a different color, I still need to try it but I think it is great to get a color I don’t have in my collection. the serum I have not tried yet but hear great things. I was disappointed in the spoilers that they gave and the shipping time of the box. I hope that for November they give us sneak peeks early like Birchbox does and receive by mid month. This is still my favorite sub since they do have higher end products. Can’t wait to see what they will do next. I really would love a nice fall lipstick…..

The only item that I will be keeping is the serum and maybe the nail polish. I’m happy with that because I want to try the serum which is worth more than what I paid for the box.

I’m hoping to use the nail polish and the PopSugar nail art for Halloween. I will pass on the nail polish to my sister if I end up not using it. Everything else is going to my sister because I can’t use it. BAB eyeshadow is money, money which is described as “black gold – A unique blend of metallic black and gold. Starlooks pencil is ultra turquoise.

The serum has witch hazel which will cause some people to break out. I have that problem when I use products containing witch hazel on my face. I’m planning to use it on the neck and decolletage area. Hopefully I won’t break out in that area, otherwise my sister received a free box!

My sister is receiving my full box. The serum did irritate my skin. I’ve used that line before with no problems and was hoping it would not irritate me. I canceled the subscription and am going to stick with the veg/eco subs. My sister is pleased with the size of the products. I think it is a great value, but it isn’t for me.

NOTE: The nail polish brushes are really stiff. They posted on fb to soak them in nail polish remover to soften them. The brush and bottle quality are poor quality and not up to Boxycharm standards but that is my only complaint. The colors are pretty.

I received the eye pencil in Ultra olive, it is a gorgeous greenish/gold glittery color and very creamy and nice. I was so pleased it was not black. It seems many people received the olive color and I saw violet but not the color Liz posted here.

My eye shadow was dark deep grey shimmer and it is just a single so blah with more Be a Bombshell products. Some people received either Purple, pink, grey and I forget the other shades but bright colors maybe for Halloween?

The Coastal Scents Pallette for me is hard to work with and so it just does not blend or I am not used to it yet.

The BIG winner is the serum!!! The reviews are amazing and I love it. First it has not broke me out and is not oily at all.. It sinks in to your skin and your face is soft and glowy. I put this serum on before the moisturizer which most serums are recommended. I love that it is 98% natural if I am not mistaking and the high quality ingredients and vitamins C&E, etc.. Great for fighting wrinkles but recommended for all ages. Read the reviews. I have been using it daily since receiving my box.

Well this was not the best Boxycharm box but for the serum and eyeliner alone, I am pleased. This was a unusually slow month for Boxycharm but I love it so much that I would not cancel. I love full size high ends. They usually send really high ends.

I do think they need to work on there new nail polish line. The bottles/brush brush holder very cheap and cheaper then my $1 nail polish although the colors are pretty.

Oh and for those on the wait list, it is only 2-4 weeks wait. I have seen people get removed in under a week.

Uhgg I really want this box! I hate that they have a waiting list, I’ve been on it for a month now and have missed out on two incredible boxes.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to get off the waiting list? I’d really like to at least be able to get a box by December. =/

Claudia

I skipped the waiting list by liking them on FB and subscribing to one of their channels on youtube. Hope this helps 🙂

My box is scheduled to arrive today. I’m glad that people are recommending videos. I’m giving the contour palette to my sister who will be back at my house later this week. Please post any other names or youtube channels that show how to apply makeup properly. Her only internet is her phone and being out in the country it’s hard to get internet. Landline is too slow for things like YouTube and that is all that is available. She’s hoping to pick up some great tips while she is here so suggest away.

I hope the recent issues are a momentary hiccup and not an indication of things to come.
Waitlists make me nervous. I feel like once companies start them, they only have to turn out a great product every second or third month – because most people don’t want to risk canceling and having that next box be the awesome box they can’t get off the waitlist for.
When people have the option to buy or pass every month based on spoilers, the box has to deliver more consistently.
I’ve loved this box but feel it’s teetering towards a direction I don’t love.

I liked this months box, I even tried to activate my other account to get another box to treat myself for my bday. But boxy charm now has a wait list to join. so doesn’t look like i’ll be getting another box 🙁 but I am glad I have this one, I’ve been experimenting with contouring so this palette with help!

I’ve tried that concealer palette before – it gets dried out fairly easily, and then stops being blendable. It was a shame since the colors were good shades.

I ended up tossing everything in this box save for the serum. I’ve read that the brushes on the polishes are very stiff (boxy charm told subscribers something about brushes being stiff for transportation purposes, but what polishes are transported…really weird statement) and all of the makeup items included parabens.

You could always use the pink eyeshadow as a blush – powder is powder!

This wasn’t my favorite Boxycharm, and it took forever to get. They’re supposed to ship at the beginning of the month, but I got mine towards the end. I really liked the nail polishes, I love dark colors and the serum, those items alone were worth double the box. I ended up swapping the rest of the items. Boxycharm is still my favorite box.

What a great box! For pretty much the first time, I wish I subscribed to BoxyCharm.
