This month’s theme is the American Breakfast. Each box comes with a folded sheet detailing each of the items included:
They also included recipes that feature the items in the box: Sausage and Maple Stuffed Tomatoes, and Bourbon Salted Pecan Pancakes with Banana & Maple Candied Pecans.
Lodge 6.5" Cast Iron Skillet - Value $12.55
I've always avoided cast iron pans since you can put them in the dishwasher, but I found this cleaning tip in the review section on Amazon:
"Immediately after cooking, fill the pan with HOT water (not cold; you could crack it!), put it on high heat, and bring the water to a rolling boil... this will lift debris off the pan bottom. Dump the water and immediately wipe dry with a paper towel, set on the (turned-off) burner briefly to dry completely, and wipe the cooking surfaces with oil."
I think I can handle that!
Shortstacks Pancake & Waffle Mix in Bourbon Salted Pecan - Value $7
Crown Maple Syrup Trio (2 Dark Amber, 1 Medium Amber) - Value $16
This pancake mix is made with all natural and organic ingredients. It requires butter or oil, milk and eggs, so it seems a little more involved than other mixes. (According to reviews the pecan/bourbon taste isn't as strong as many were expecting).
This maple syrup is 100% pure organic maple syrup. While I don't consider myself a maple syrup expert, I think I could taste the difference between this syrup and other syrups I've tried. It's also slightly less sweet than some other syrups - which I like!
Muirhead Pecan Pumpkin Butter - Value $7.25
Perfect Poach! Egg Poaching Papers - Value $6
This Pecan Pumpkin butter is so delicious! It tastes like a pumpkin pecan pie, with little pieces of pecans through out! I also think these Perfect Poach papers look interesting. I've never done poached eggs, but the reviews rave about how easy it is with these papers, so I'll give it a try!
This box also came with a card to save $10 off your first month of the coffee subscription box MistoBox with coupon code HAMPTONS10. (Normally $19 - you can get a box for only $9).
Verdict: I'm pretty consistently impressed with Hamptons Lane. I think they do a great job of curating their boxes each month. You can tell that they only pick high-quality items for the theme too. (I also really like that you can preview and skip any month you aren't interested in - that makes the $47 a month price tag a lot more manageable). This month's box has a value of about $49 (that's counting the sale price for the Lodge Mini Pan). Given how close the value is to the cost, I think this subscription is more about the curation and trying new gourmet food and cooking products.
