This box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Clutch

Clare V. Foldover Leather Clutch – Value $220

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Blue

A few readers had mentioned that this Clare V. clutches are high-quality, and now that I have one in my hands I can agree! This is really well-made and the leather is top notch too. I even like the denim lining:

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Lining

My only issue with this item is a personal one - I just don't use clutches that often at all.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Packaging

Monica Rich Kosann Cream Enamel Frame – Value $100

This frame was came in a box that makes it good for gifting.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Frame Box

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Frame

I wasn't too excited about this item when I first saw the spoilers (we just don't really use picture frames), but my husband wanted to frame a photo of his grandfather today - so it was perfect timing.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Missoni

Missoni Home by Apothia Candle - Value $88

I am a lover of Missoni prints from afar (AKA I can only afford anything from their line when Target does a collaboration), so I was happy about this candle being included in the box.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Candle

I got the Mediterraneo scent - and I like it!

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 pattern

This is the one item in the box my husband and both love!

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Lancer

Lancer The Method, Nourish – Value $125

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm intrigued. (If you've tried this brand and recommend it let me know!)

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 MAscara

Chantecaille Supreme Cils Mascara –  Value $52

Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss - Value $33

Well, I had to try this mascara immediately - I needed to know what made it cost more than $50! I was expecting to be WOWed- but it doesn't stand out to me as special, and I wasn't a fan of the brush either - it didn't seem to do a good job of separating lashes. It's still pretty good, and I'll use it, but I won't be buying more.

I've tried this lip gloss before thanks to subscription boxes, and it's good too. I think in general Chantecaille is a luxe beauty brand that doesn't seem worth the extra dollars to me.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Cocoa

Mariebelle Aztec Hot Chocolate Tin – Value $26

This is going to make a wonderful holiday gift!

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Closed

Swing Design Mia Glass Storage Box – Value $40

This is one of my favorite items in the box. It's a beautiful piece for vanities/night stands/etc.

POPSUGAR Must Have Neiman Marcus Box Review - Holiday 2014 Open

(I put a quarter in there show scale).

Verdict: I've been thinking about what made this Holiday box different than the 2013 box for me - and I figured it out. Both boxes have high-value luxe items, but the 2013 box had more items I actually might have splurged on and purchased for myself. (The throw, plates, the tray). With this box, there are high-quality items that I just wouldn't have bought myself (clutch, frame). But while I wouldn't have spent $88 on a candle, I love it and it's sitting pretty on our coffee table right now!

I'm thinking if I think of the perfect person to gift this clutch to, the value of the box will be worth it for me. Did you get the box yet? What did you think of it?

For everyone who wanted to know who put this box together. It was NM Fashion Director Ken Downing.

I finally received my NM box a few days ago and the Lancer moisturizer was missing. That was the only item I was planning on keeping for myself! I sent popsugar an email and still have not heard back from them. Has anyone else had this problem? So disappointed with them…

I, too, am a bit disappointed as I was hoping for a lifestyle box more like last year’s edition. This was my 1st Popsugar box, and as I can’t justify the price of these blind purchase items, it will be my last. Wish I knew about the coupon and spoiler. Oh well.

I am glad I didn’t buy this box. It wouldn’t have made me excited. Anyone heard about the dailylook subscription service. I signed up. Would love to see a review. Also would love to see a review of the dermstore grab bags, if there is already one please link it.

I can not believe I spent $250 for this box and even before I received it the price was lowered to $200 however I called and was unable to get the refund for the extra $50 I agree with all of the other people that the box is certainly not worth the money

I got both boxes this month and I will say I liked the regular box better, and since I liked more of its items for me it was a better value. The Neiman marcus box I saw last year and missed out on made me order this one. I had mixed opinions. For me, I don’t need to spend $100 on a frame or $88 on a candle or $52 for mascara and $33 for gloss. HOWEVER I think its important to point out that the items are actually great items and Popsugar has a wide variety of customers so I appreciate the variety of items. The frame feels like it would have been a great bridal item to regift. And I got a very manly scent missoni candle in the black and white holder that says MISSONI on it and I would rather have a girlier scent and prettier glass. But again great item to regift to a man or a woman who likes more earthy scents. I for one LOOOVE the hot chocolate right up my alley. And the glass box I was just looking at a similar one at target so was a good item for me. And I am excited to try the face cream. Coolest thing about ordering both boxes is if you take the clutch and the chain wallet and layer them together-unfold the clutch, lay the wallet down with both ends of the chain going out the sides and fold the clutch down it turns the clutch into a bag with a small pocket and with a chain!

I was very disappointed with the 2014 Nieman Markus box I wish I would have waited to see what was in it. I was just so excited with 2013 box I loved all the stuff in that one, and it was sold out. So this year I was ready, and all I got was a disappointment. I even tried canceling the same day I ordered.
And now they have a $100 2014 holiday box I wish I would have got that instead.

Super disappointed in this box. 250.00 for a mascara and a moisturizer that I will use? I know they cant please everyone, but really, how many candles, lotions, mascaras can a person have? The Clare V clutch looks old fashioned, as does the glass box, or whatever it is. I got the Missoni candle that is black and white lettering that spells “missoni” all around it. Would I put out a candle in my house in red and white that says “target, target target” all around it? I think not. Not impressesd.

I just received my NM box today, and oh my goodness I was so excited to open it!! (The box itself is gorgeous!) I started opening the items one by one, and my excitement quickly fizzled! The Missoni candle was chipped, and the hot chocolate tin was dented!!

Then, after I opened everything I realized there is no face cream, gloss, or mascara!! WTH!! Has anyone else had issues with their box?? I planned on gifting the candle and Hot Chocolate…umm not anymore! So frustrating!! I was so excited to try the mascara, gloss & cream too! UGH!! I’ve emailed support hopefully they can fix this!

On a positive note, I absolutely love the clutch, and trinket box! The frame is nicely packaged and quality made but it’s not something I would ever purchase.

I absolutely love the PSMH box and this is the first time anything has ever been missing or broken, and hope it’s the last!

Hi Nikki! My box was also missing the cream, gloss and mascara. I emailed PS and they apologized and said they’d send them right away(haven’t received yet but it’s been just a few days). My candle was fine but I know others had issues and were told they’d be given replacements. Hope this helps!

nikki

Huge help! Sounds like they’re taking care of you,I hope they do the same for me! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to try everything!! Thanks!

Stacey

I got mine today in the mail. I really do not like any of it. The glass box is okay, and I’m trying to figure out where it will look nice… and I think I might gift the hot chocolate to my mom.
Other than that, blah. I guess I could hang on to the frame for a wedding gift..
The one thing I was excited about was the missoni candle and I got the one scent I do not like(Maremma), with the pattern I did not want.
I was trying to keep an open mind about it, but I’m not happy with this purchase at all. Fool me once, Popsugar… Never again.

Maybe you can swap the candle you have for another scent from someone who wants the one you have? Sorry 🙁

too rich for my blood 🙂
maybe if i had a ton of people to buy gifts for or something this would be a good box but im in the camp “i could buy a lot of things i love with $200 vs getting this box where i would gift half of it” camp.

Just got mine. I love everything in it. My candle is Bianconero and smells like Heaven.

I am actually quite positive about this box. When I had seen the spoilers online I kicked myself for buying two boxes. I then recieved my box and loved everything in person and have everything in use. The second box I was planning on splitting up as gifts but had a hard time deciding who to give what to So I bought a third box and will gift one to each sister in law. I don’t know what people were hoping to achieve from this box but overall as a surprise the people putting the box together have to appeal to a broad audience. I think they achieved it by going with neutral options.

Three of these boxes- wow I want to get on your gift list!

I got my box yesterday. The one thing I really loved was the candle. I was hoping for $88, it would be amazing, and it smells wonderful (I got the Mediterraneo like you, did other people get one of the other versions?), but of course it was broken. I emailed PS for a replacement and I will give credit where it is due, they responded with a promise of replacement within an hour, nothing like these crazy wait times everyone keeps mentioning on their facebook page. I thought about gifting some of the items, but in the end I decided to keep everything and just enjoy it. I didn’t love the box and my fiance actually is the one who bought it for me. I felt almost awkward opening it with him because as a man, it’s already hard trying to explain how designer items can be worth the expense, and I felt it was even harder to justify the expense with this box because there wasnt one item that really stood out. I agree with the other poster who said that PS and NM kind of mislead us in their original email. We should have been told up front this box would be available in the store as well. Well, lesson learned, I will be waiting on full spoilers moving forward.

I’ve been particularly vocal in a very negative way about this box here. And I have lived with the box for a few days and want to share a non-snarky opinion, or at least try to be less snarky.

When they sent out the email letting us know that the box was available, I feel that they falsely advertised what was going on. In that email they referenced last years box and how quickly it sold out, it lead alot of us to believe that the box would be handled like last year’s box- unique items that we had not received in a box before and a limited quantity that would sell out quickly. which is why we bought the box right away.

If this had been billed NM “elegant classics” and the purse had been switched out a cream color or I’ve seen a dalmatian print, It would have been the a much better box and I would not have felt so upset with them. My expectations would have more closely matched what the box was.

If they had said in the initial email that the boxes would be available both in Neiman Marcus and Popsugar, I would not have felt mis lead. I shop NM I know there are codes all the time.

If there was a separate 4 times a year NM box subscription, I wouldn’t have been upset with this box or any of its contents, I probably would subscribe only to that and not a monthly popsugar box, or a LE box and none of the items would then have been duplicates for me.

So in the end I think it really came down to the advertising/presentation. We were lead to believe that we were getting something high quality, unique, with limited availability. Because we are completely in the dark as to the contents, we have to have alot of faith that the company we are working with values us enough to follow through on the limited details they provide us with when we make the decision to share our money with them. It isn’t great when you trust someone and they break that trust.

What we received was high quality, not unique and not limited availability.

If you went in and bought a “sprite soda” and were given a “mountain dew” instead. Yup its still soda, its still a clear soda, but its not what you expected.

Anyway, I am wearing my lipgloss and mascara and plan to open my dented hot cocoa container and enjoy a cup of cocoa later. I will print out my christmas picture of the kids and put it in the frame, will use the jewelry box because it really is the only awesome item in the box, and regift the rest. I am of course super grateful that I can afford this luxury. But I do feel as though I allowed myself to be tricked a bit by this company so I will wear my sucker tattoo and use the glass for the candle when the candle is done to hold dumdum lollipops at my desk to remind me of a lesson learned.

You have managed to put into words EXACTLY what I have been trying to express to Popsugar, despite the fact that they really do not care.

I got my box yesterday and as I opened it.. I thought.. OK.. well this is fine. And then I packed it back up and set it under the bed. Last year I walked around my home placed everything where I thought it looked best and stared for hours at all the great things. This year.. it is a box of just fine stuff sitting under my bed until I think Ill find somewhere to stuff it.

I didn’t spend 250.00 to think I got a box of just fine stuff. I spent 250.00 to think that I would be blown away by at least a few items. That’s where my disappointment in all of this was.

Pam

I have to say that I, too, was very dissappointed with this box. I do not feel that the items were anything very special and the fact that the box is selling at $50 less at NM with all the contents revealed makes me feel somewhat duped. I am not sure if this box is returnable, but I intent to attempt a return.

Reply ButtonReply

DaisyK

Thank you for clearly articulating what I agree is at the heart of all the drama surrounding this box. I think just most people who ordered the box were expecting something similar to last years NM box – both in content and exclusivity. I also think last year’s box had the overall feel of a “lifestyle” box as opposed to a fashion/beauty box. A clutch, lipgloss, mascara, and face cream make up half the items in the box (you could probably even include the jewelry/trinket/what-have-you box in that mix). That leaves the poor candle, picture frame, and a ridiculously overpriced tin of hot chocolate to pick up the slack. I think it’s a shame PS relied so heavily on duping people with their advertising tricks, as well as not being transparent about the availability of this box as compared to last year’s extremely limited box. Shame on you, PS! If I had purchased a box I would have been only too happy to engage CS in a drawn out email correspondence about the matter.

I didn’t get the NM box, and therefore don’t have a horse in this race, but I just wanted to say that I think you explained that very well. 🙂

I don’t know – but there is something bothering me with this box. There is not a single thing that makes me think it would be worth the splurge. ‘

I’ll rather go to Saks and spend this money on something I really want 😉

I totally agree, very disappointed. I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

I really love the Neiman Marcus popsugar box.

Here are my two cents: It is very true that these items are repeats of other boxes (I.e. candle, clutch, picture frame). My point of view is that this the Neiman Marcus version of a regular popsugar box. Yes, they are similar items but it of a much nicer quality.

My favorite items are the candle, the box, and the frame. The three of these things actually made a very beautiful grouping on my vanity.

For me, these are brands that I have admired from afar (Clare V. and Missoni) but could never afford them otherwise. Also, I felt
That the styles are classic and not trendy and therefore, I will be able to keep them around for a while. So, I am really happy and this box made me feel really special.

I totally disagree about chanticaille. I LOVE their retinol cream, cleanser, rosewater and their foundation. I’m using the mascara right now and love the rose scent. Their skincare is to die for I swear the wrinkle in between my eyes disappeared after using the retinol cream. Plus that mascara is water resistant and their products are usually really water resistant. I really like the curation of the neimans box. I personally wasn’t a fan of last years, but thought they did much better this year, because these are all items that I would buy separately for way more than this price. I’m also tired of some of the lower end items we get, because to me it feels like clutter that I have to find a home for, but the high end versions of the same items in the neimans box makes everything feel special.

After much personal debate and reading and you tube -ing all of the reviews, I decided to purchase this box. Today, the $50 off sale along with seeing the actual items in person at NM and liking the high quality of the items were the deciding factors. Yes, many of the kind of items such as clutches, candles, and frames are in other subscription boxes, but not of this caliber. To me, these items are all useful, and as I would not spend the full retail price of each item separately, it seems like a good deal to me. Most items in this box are my taste, and I will either personally use them or give away as gifts. I am happy with my decision.

I’m so glad you posted this review! I would have been so upset if I spent $250 on this box. $88 for a candle, $100 for a simple picture frame, $52 for mediocre mascara, even the clutch isn’t that cute esp for $220!!!! Completely not worth it! I will splurge on great, useful products…nothing in this box is useful or great. So disappointing…

Liz, I was wondering about Lancer too so I checked out Beautypedia (my go to guide for cosmetics and skincare), and unfortunately the cream gets an average review. There’s actually a growth hormone in the moisturizer, which it a big turnoff to me. Here’s the link if you want to check out the review from an unbiased, reliable source:
http://www.paulaschoice.com/beautypedia-skin-care-reviews/by-brand/lancer-dermatology/_/The-Method-Nourish
On a side note, I totally agree with your thoughts on clutches. They are so cute, but I find them annoying to hold. I guess I have lazy hands. 🙂

@allcapsERINN

Soooo happy to see another beautypedia fan! That site is my go-to as well for makeup/skincare reviews! I’ve learned so much from that woman. (Not a shill for that site, I swear!)

As for the box, WHEW, I’m SOOOOOO glad I didn’t give into temptation and order it. The items are lovely, but I agree with other posters in that there’s nothing particularly limited-edition or remarkable about them. I do know that the hot chocolate is fabulous though! 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Ariana

I love Paula’s Choice products and have learned so much about skincare and the ridiculous claims that a lot of companies make. And on Beautypedia, you can easily search for products that are not tested on animals!

Just want to add that Dean and DeLuca has the same brand of hot chocolate that can be used for Iced Hot Chocolate. I may need to use my Popsugar coupon to get some!

Erin

The Lancer products I have used I’ve dearly loved. They actually produce visible results very quickly, across the board. There’s a reason why I’ve never gotten the same results with any of the organic/natural products I’ve tried (and there have been many). I have no concerns about the ingredients. We ingest far worse on a daily basis. Then again I have no problem injecting my face with botulism, for the same reasons I would use this cream. Until science develops all natural skincare that produces the same results as my La Mer, Clarins Total Double serum, La Prairie caviar cream, and Lancer products, I’ll be fine using what works best.

Angela

Someone said in Ramblings of a Suburban Mom that the value of the cocoa is actually only $13. The full-size 20-oz container is $26, but this one is only 10 ounces.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

I think you’re right! I went to the MarieBelle website and it clearly states the large size is 20 oz for $26, and Liz’s picture clearly shows that it is $10. What a clear misrepresentation from PSMH and NM, and on top of everything else, they can’t really afford to lie about what they’re giving their customers right now.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Sorry I meant 10 oz and not $10. I should have checked before hitting submit.

Caitlyn

Pretty glad I skipped it! I really want to get the special edition for her tho!
The best items in this box IMO are the clutch (and I probably wouldn’t use it, and I don’t like how it just unfolds/flops like that) and the glass holder. $100 picture frame ? really?
