Flicker Box Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Info

Flicker Box includes an info card every month, sharing information about the makers and the candles. They do a great job introducing you to the brands included, and these cards definitely make it easier to re-order when you find a candle you really like.

Flicker Box Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Candles

No. 270 Vanilla Snowflake by Copper & Kraft Candle - $6.75

Crazy Cat Lady Soy Candle by The Burlap Bag - $14

I am completely in love with this Crazy Cat Lady candle! It smells just like fresh grapefruit, which is one of my favorite fragrances in the world.

The Vanilla Snowflake has a pretty standard vanilla fragrange, which I find a little sweet for my tastes, but if you like vanilla fragrance, this is a good one. It's also a great candle because it is made using soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks, phthalate free fragrance oils and no dyes.

Flicker Box Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Yeti

Kitten Toots by big white yeti - $8

big white yeti only sells 6 oz. tins on their etsy site, and the tin that Flicker Box sent me is 4.6 oz, so I am estimating on the value. This is the second candle I've received from big white yeti and Flicker Box in the past six months, and I think this is the only repeat from a maker. You can imagine the uproar that this candle caused at my house with a name like Kitten Toots! Fortunately it's just a funny name and does not actually smell like kitten toots. The aroma is actually pretty floral and soapy. big white yeti is another vendor that uses "all natural everything' in making their pure soy wax candles, and i have found from their previous candle that the air scent is pretty subtle when lighting their candles.

Flicker Box Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Meyer

Meyer Lemon & Thyme Aromatherapy Candle by Big Dipper Wax Works - $5.50

This is a tiny candle that packs a huge punch! It is VERY fragrant! I like citrus and herbal scents, so this is a win for me. Big Dipper uses 100% beeswax for their all natural candles.

Verdict: The value of the candles this month comes to just about $34.25, so it just matches the regular cost of the box. Flicker Box tends to run specials pretty often and shows up on Groupon or Gilt City from time to time, so if you are hoping for a better value, you should keep your eyes open for those deals. The added value of this subscription is definitely in the curation. There are a LOT of candle makers out there, and Flicker Box does an amazing job bringing subscribers 3-4 different ones every month that smell good and won't make you sick with artificial or hazardous ingredients. Additionally, I found a new favorite this month, so it was well worth the cost!

Which candle was your favorite this month?

This is the last month of my 3 month Gilt deal. I’m definitely going to resub since it’s become one of my top most anticipated sub boxes. Given what I have paid for Scentsy wax melts, even at full price Flicker is a bargain.

I hated Crazy Cat Lady it smelled like pineapple to me which I despise I swapped it immediately lol. But loved Kitten Toots and Vanilla Snowflake and yes my 5 yr old niece thought a candle called Kitten Toots was hysterical.
I got a 6 month subscription from Gilt City and this is only my 2nd month. The candles are nice, but when I burn them don’t notice much smell at all. I have soy candles from another Etsy maker and local lady who makes AH-MAZING scents and her candles smell up my whole house (ajscountrycottage.etsy.com). Swan Creek Candle Co also has tons of great scents and really put out a lot of scent. Both are cheaper than Yankee candles, burn way nicer and have tons of different, delicious scents.

on a sort of related note, i chose to burn the big dipper wax works candle first because it had such a crazy unique strong scent. but i trimmed the wick, and let it burn for a few hours, and instead of the wax melting outwards all the way to the edge of the tin, it just burned straight down. like the wick burned a perfect little hole straight down to the bottom of the tin. i wish i could post a picture of it but I was disappointed that I didn’t get anywhere near the recommended burn time for the candle… is it me?

Just had to toss this in too, I’ve been burning the Christmas Cabin one for 4 hours and don’t hardly notice a scent at all. I burned The Burlap Bag baking bread candle last night too and both smell wonderful when you open then, but after that you hardly smell them.

I live in a pretty huge place and the candle scents are pretty strong, albeit diffused in that they don’t smell strong close up but they tend to scent the entire area around them.

Meg

I’ve had the opposite experience BUT I live in a small space and have a pretty sensitive nose so I tend to smell things more fully. I tend to burn my candles throughout the day as I work and find that I can smell them just fine and have really enjoyed almost all of my flicker box candles. I can’t wait for my box to get here. Though Sleigh Ride candle is a slow going one for burning 😉

Meg

Copper and Kraft, The Burlap bag and Yeti are all repeat contributors. Different scents and I am so happy to see all 3 of these again!
