Yuzen Beauty Subscription Box Review – Spring 2015 Box

Yuzen is one of the original eco subscription boxes. It’s a mix of spa, beauty and the occasional food item, and everything is made with natural ingredients. (It’s one of those boxes that smells amazing even before you open it!)

Yuzen Beauty Subscription Box Review – Spring 2015 Deodorant

Nubian Heritage Honey & Black Seed 24 Hour All Natural Deodorant - FULL SIZE! Value $8

Co-Pur Hand Balm in Lavender Lime - FULL SIZE! Value $8

I'm always on the lookout for natural deodorants that are easy to apply, and I love that this one comes in a regular deodorant stick! I'm wearing it now and I like the scent - hopefully it works for 24 hours too!

This hand balm is like an oversized lipbalm, and the perfect size and container for keeping in my purse. I love the Lavender Lime scent, and the short ingredient list: Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, and essential oils for scent. (Based on the info sheet, it looks like subscribers may receive one of three different scents. I might try to swap for the Sweet Citrus as well!)

Yuzen Beauty Subscription Box Review – Spring 2015 Lip Lush

Acure Organics Lip Lush in No Strings - FULL SIZE! Value $7

SpaRitual Nail Lacquer in Love is in the Air (Mini) - Value $6.50

Acure is one of my favorite natural/organic beauty brands. Their products work really well, and their price points are great too. This Lip Lush adds a lot of gloss and shine without any stickiness. (The color and shimmer are very subtle).

SpaRitual is a vegan nail polish brand, and I love their mini bottles. (I don't think I've ever finished a full-size nail polish bottle, so minis are fine by me!) I like this cotton-candy pink shade too.

Yuzen Beauty Subscription Box Review – Spring 2015 Chocolate

Chocolove Toffee & Almonds in Milk Chocolate Bar - Value $4.50

Innersense Pure Harmony Shampoo + Daily Conditioner - Samples Value $2?

My husband's favorite sweet treat is toffee, and he couldn't stop raving about this chocolate bar!

These Innersense samples don't have sizes on the labels, so I'm estimating the value. If the products are even half as good as their scents I'll be buying the full-size versions asap!

Yuzen Beauty Subscription Box Review – Spring 2015 Spa

Spa Technologies Micro Pearl Dermabrasion - .25 oz Value $5.30

Yurrku Utopia Night Cream - 10 ml Value $16

This Micro Pearl Dermabrasion should last me at least 2-3 uses, and should be enough to see if I want to buy the full-size version. I'm excited about this Utopia Night Cream as well - it's a nice lightweight cream and absorbs quickly. I like the scent too.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $58. I think the value is great considering I will use every single item. This is one of those boxes that makes me feel like it was made for me! What do you think of the Spring 2015 Yuzen Box?

Must report back regarding the deodorant, which is what threw me over the edge onto ordering this box. I like it; it works! Now, mind you, heat doesn’t bother me as much as most everyone else; however, I was out gardening in 88 degree weather and this did the trick. And I’d put it on the day before I did the gardening, not the morning of the gardening since I did the gardening before showering again. (Put my deodorant on after showering and not again until after the next shower.)

This was my second foray into natural deodorants. The first one was a small stick sample of Blissoma which was quite difficult to use despite being in stick form (very crumbly and had to be massaged in after applying).

Finally signed up for this box. I believe I will get this Spring box followed closely by the Summer box (in May?). I wish that not all quarterly boxes were on the same schedule. It would be nice if some changed to be in June/September rather than May/August, etc. just to space them out for enjoyment’s sake. I’m thinking of subscribing to the new Luxor Box which is also on the May/August schedule.

So how does one use that Microderm cream from Spa Technologies? They didn’t give any instructions. Do you scrub it on and then rinse it off? Thanks!

Rachel

I was wondering the same thing as well.

I LOVE Yuzen! Their boxes are always so well curated and packaged. And because they are quarterly, the price is totally worth it. Love all the items that they have introduced me too – especially Yurrku and Spa Technologies. I like it that they always include a little treat too. Every time I get a box is like getting a present just for me in the mail. They have single gift boxes too that are different than the subscription box.

Betsy

Do you know how often they charge the contents of that single purchase box?

Carrie

Their single gift box is a one time charge when you purchase. The subscription box is charged every 3 months. They also have a 3 box gift option that is charged once when you buy it.
Look on their FAQ page for details.

Argh! Great box!!! Love it. Trying to tell myself that the only items in there that I don’t actually have 47 of already are the microdermabrasion and the natural deo. Trying to resist!!! 🙂

Note to Sneaky B: Some ingredients commonly found in commercial deodorants are thought to be carcinogenic.

Note to Liz: The ingredients in the hand balm are the exact same as in many many many DIY lip balms and body butters. They are readily available and there are many recipes on Pinterest. It was actually you / this site who made me start paying closer attention to ingredients and I have been experimenting with replicating products I like but with natural ingredients. eg I make a rose lip balm now because I loved the Baume de Rose but not the ingredients. I make a variety of lip balms, eye creams, face oils, body butters, etc. Almost all have coconut oil as the main ingredient since it’s non-comedogenic, plus beeswax if the final product is wanted as a stick or balm, plus shea and/or cocoa butter, plus vitamin e oil and essential oils. Uh…. if you’re interested. 🙂

Sneaky Burrito

There’s not any science to back up the aluminum/cancer thing — the rumor of which apparently got its start in one of those alarmist 1990s e-mail forwards. (Seriously. Search for it on snopes dot com.)

Also, the only times I’ve tried natural deodorant (when I got it in subs and thought “why not?”), it’s (1) not worked and (2) given me a rash.

Simple Complexity

Thanks Sneaky Burrito for pointing out the lack of evidence supporting the “could cause cancer” argument. I’m a research chemist who always appreciates when a person does their research before claiming that “this chemical could cause cancer.”

This looks like an awesome box ! It’s beautifully wrapped, the name is original and the products look great !!

This box is so amazing I had to go right out and order it! Can’t wait to get my own!!

I really loved the microdermabrasion cream and went and bought a full sized one as well as the corresponding cleanser using the coupon code from the box. As everyone has said, it doesn’t take much and it made my skin feel so soft.

I am not too crazy for the oily balm stick and will likely swap it or give it to a friend.

This box is WAY better than the last one. i look forward to seeing what they offer next quarter.

Yuzen is the box that introduced me to TATCHA 🙂 I tried out most of the items in the box. The shampoo and conditioner did not work well in my hair. I also gave the microdermabrasion to my sister because I could not find any information if it is safe for rosacea. I do think that the sample should last much longer than 2-3 uses.

I love the night moisturizer and may purchase more. The nail polish is a perfect size for me and any Acure product is welcomed by me. I haven’t tried the deodorant yet. My husband said the chocolate is delicious.

It’s always fun opening this box and trying everything out. I’m looking forward to the summer box.

If anyone doesn’t want that deodorant I would love to swap for it! Live in sunny San Diego but I’m looking for something more natural for around the house days 🙂

Marissa,

I’ll swap for it! I have too many natural deodorants to use up right now so it’s just sitting around waiting. 🙂

Do we need to arrange it via the swap site, or do you just want to email me? nellin01 at hotmail dot com

I wish I would have got this box! The chocolate bar is actually my favorite chocolate bar that I get at a specialty food store in town and I’ve been looking for a natural deodorant too. Overall this looks like a great yuzen box

Sneaky Burrito

I think you can still sign up until the end of the season and get this box.

Meanwhile, I feel like the only person on the planet with absolutely no interest in natural deodorant…

Krista

No, I agree with you. I’m fine with my Degree Clinical 🙂

Liz, that microdermabrasion pot will last a while. I have already used it a number of times, and it does not even look like I have taken a dent out of it. I learned on the first use that it does not take more than about a pea-sized amount for my entire face.
