Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – July 2015 - info

This month's theme was Humanity's Last Hope!

Cobra's Motto T-Shirt - Value $10?

This is a highlight for me. This, like all Nerd Block shirts, is from ShirtPunch. It's a Karate Kid and G.I. Joe mashup - I was giddy when Liz pulled the shirt out and I saw "Sweep The Leg"!

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – July 2015 - wallet

Ghostbusters Wallet - Value $5-10?

I'm not sure how to put a value on this - but it's a Nerd Block exclusive. When the wallet is fully opened, it resembles that iconic Ghostbusters trap, and on the inside it details some famous lines and enemies. While I don't need a wallet right now, I'll probably keep this around for future use. I've been very into Ghostbusters recently since I've started reading that latest IDW Ghostbusters run. It's fantastic and has a lot of movie tie-ins!

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – July 2015 - madmax

Mad Max Comic - Max Part One - Value $4-5

This is from a recent Mad Max run that coincides with the movie of the same name. There are a couple of runs that focus on single characters like Furiosa and Mx - this one focuses on Max, and is the first issue. This is also a Nerd Block exclusive cover.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – July 2015 - titans

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Titans Vinyl Figure - Spike - Value $13 on Amazon

The value I put on this is from a similar Titan on Amazon - but this is actually an exclusive variant Titan Spike figure, so the value is probably a bit higher. I was never a big Buffy T.V. show fan, I've probably seen the Buffy movie from 1992 much more than the show.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – July 2015 - pop-mini

Iron Man Keychain - Value $6 on Amazon

This is the miniaturized version of the Age of Ultron Funko Pop Avengers line. I really like the full size version of this POP, it's my favorite Iron Man POP that I have, so I love having a mini-version for my desk! And if you don't use it as a key chain, like me, it simply unscrews from the top of the mini POP.

Transformers Danglers - Value $2-3 Based on Amazon 3-Pack

These are from the Dark Of The Moon movie and are made to be hung from a zipper. We got Optimus Prime!

Verdict: I *kind of* get the theme - but it does get a bit hazy when I try to include the Karate Kid into it - besides that, I liked this box. I like all the items in the box, the Transformers dangler is the one thing that I'm a bit impartial to, but that's ok - it's the lowest value item. I'm excited to start a new comic book as well! Has anyone read the Mad Max comics?

What did you think of this month's Nerd Block?

This is my first month trying this sub. I avoided spoilers except for what inspired me to push me to get this sub. – the Buffy hint.

I was giddy to get Spike. I always preferred anti-heroes and Spike had some if the best lines! I for one thoroughly enjoyed both the Buffy movie and the series (and Angel FTW – one of best episodes ever – Smiletime!!!). The movie is lighthearted cheese sorta like the Xena series. The series gets a bit serious at times but has its share if laughter too! (Thinikin of Anya’s fear of bunnies). They did some serious stuff, think Joyce episodes, Halloween episodes were always a blast and I am nit ashamed to admit that I am still afraid of the gentlemen. *getting off Buffy soapbox*

I have to say I was even giddier to see the T-shirt. I have lots if geek tees and this will he up there as one of my favorites!

The ironman bobble is cute but will probably take a backseat to my Groot keychain and reside on my desk with all if my other toys.

The ghostbuster wallet. Man, I love me some ghostbusters but this wallet us just…meh. I know it would be too much but even a mini (like the iron man) figurine would gave been awesome – thinking Stay Puft ideally.

I loved Mad Max growing up (Tina Turner one) – I haven’t seen the latest movie but I heard it had some awesome girl power so its on my list when it is available on Redbox/whatever.

That transformers… Argh. I loved transformers as a kid and these latest movies seem like an abomination so I didn’t even look at it much. If it us old school it will get a place amongst my toys if not…

Smiletime may have been the best TV episode of all time. …Okay, maybe not, but it was beyond awesome. Puppet!Angel nailed it. 😀

I never used to have major feelings about the Transformers. Now I hate them. Thanks, Michael Bay.

This is my first Nerd Block and I’m pretty happy with it! I couldn’t resist the Buffy spoiler – and Spike is my favorite character!!! WOO! 😀 (I wonder if we all received the same character.) I don’t collect vinyls, but he’s going right next to my Saul Goodman! 🙂

HOW have you seen the awful Buffy movie more than the glorious TV show??? Bad geek!! … 😉

I was also excited to see that the Mad Max comic is from Vertigo. I’m a liiiiittle bit of a comic snob and their books are usually smart and interesting. (Although I suppose they could have used the Vertigo imprint just because they can swear and be generally naughty.)

The Ghostbusters wallet is a really cute idea but I don’t have a use for it, so I’ll swap it.

It took me a minute to get the t-shirt mashup. It was cleverly done, but these are not my fandoms so I’ll likely put it up for swap.

I think the G.I.Joe part of the t-shirt fits the Save the World theme, but yeah, the Karate Kid part muddies it a bit.

Still loving your reviews, Eric!! 🙂

I think this is the first Nerd Block that has more than one item that I want to keep. I gave the comic to my bf’s friends and I gave the transformer keychain to my niece. My bf is a huge Buffy fan so he was super happy with the vinyl and I kept the rest. That being said, I have the tshirt in a ladies 2XL to swap as I’m not really a fan of GIJOE or Karate Kid.

I just wanted to say I love the IDW Ghostbusters comics! I’ve only read up to volume 7 so far, but they’re really great. I love the tribute they did for Egon. ❤️ 🙂

I haven’t read up to volume 7 yet – but I’m glad they did a tribute! I’ve been binging on IDW Ghostbusters and TMNT. Can’t get enough right now!

I too have gotten into the TMNT IDW comics as of late. It’s a good combination of the original story lines with a modern twist. I don’t recall seeing Ghostbuster issues though, I’ll have to look more into it.

Also enjoy the Archie vs. Predator spinoff that’s out.

JacLyn

Yes, TMNT! That is another great series! IDW is doing well with the reboots. 😀
