Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Card Front

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Card back

This month's theme was Summer Mixtape - I really wasn't sure what to make of that theme, so I was expecting a mix of any type of items.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - shirt

Who You Gonna Call? Shirt - Value $10?

Like I said in the Geek Fuel review, August may have be the best geek box wearable month for me, ever! I've recently caught up in the IDW Ghostbusters and TMNT comic runs, so the timing of the shirt is perfect. I absolutely love this one - keep the amazing wearables coming!

Ghost Trap Lunch Box - Value $10?

Here's one of the exclusive items this month - a Ghostbuster lunchbox! I was instantly excited to root through my box when I opened it and immediately saw this lunch box. I love the look of it, you couldn't have picked a better Ghostbusters prop to use for a lunch box. While I don't need it for lunch, it's easily usable for storage.

And then, when you pop it open...

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Slimer

Slimer Plush - Value $10?

Inside is this exclusive Slimer plush. It's a cool plush that the dog has totally stolen, but it's not the best looking Slimer I've seen - the look is pretty generic. I tried to go to the manufacturer's website to see what their other monsters look like - but the website on the plush's tag didn't exist - so I can't tell you if this is just the look of their products.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Awkward Family Postcards

Awkward Family Photos Postcards - Value $7.71 on Amazon

When we got a spoiler that there was something from Awkward Family Photos in here, I really just assumed it was the book, and I think we had received it years ago in a box - so I was expecting this to be a wash. But, this is something I don't have and can use - a set of postcards - so I'm pretty happy about this item.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Postcard

Here's a look at the cards.

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Rubik's Cube and CoatersRubiks Cube Stress Cube - Value $8.47 on Amazon

I love getting stress balls/squishy items in boxes. I use them all the time while I'm working - it's a really nice distraction while I think through some website issues/features while I'm building out new features for you all to enjoy!

A Coaster Of Kings - Value $5?

The last item this month was an exclusive set of coasters. Based on the house sigils from Game of Thrones, these are subtle, but recognizable. These are cool, but they're just cardboard, so I'm not really sure how long they'll actually hold up.

And just to get everyone as excited as I am for next month - they included a spoiler...

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Star Wars in September

Nerd Block Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2015 - Star Wars Back

How pumped is everyone for this!? What do you think the item will be? Don't forget to sign up now to make sure you get the Star Wars item!

Verdict: I wasn't sure what to expect with this month's theme, and true to form, it was kind of all over the place as I thought it might be. That being said - 3 items where Ghostbusters related which is an instant win for me! I'll definitely use all the items from this box - the coasters are good in a pinch - so I was really pleased with Nerd Block this month!

Thanks for all your work on the MSA site, Eric! I <3 MSA

If you want cardboard coasters to last longer, laminate them.

Definitely excited for Hyperspace next month!

I gave Nerd Block a fair try for four months but never felt I was getting my money’s worth until the last back which was August. I love the t-shirt and wore it right away, the lunch box went to the hubby and the kiddo got the slimer and the squishy cube. The postcards are mine or will be gifted.

I wish Nerd Block would offer three different currated fandoms per month and you choose which you like…some of the boxes have been for fandoms I’m not into such as Anime or Dr. Who…

I’d be interested in selling or swapping the entire box (or parts thereof). Just doesn’t do it for me this month. I can’t remember offhand if the t-shirt is a small or medium. I can be reached at lam86 AT bc.edu. 🙂

I ended up getting this box twice – I cancelled my subscription and re-subscribed to get the free welcome box but didn’t realize that I had already paid for August. So, long story short, I have items to swap/sell (t-shirt Ladies 2XL, slimer plushie, cube, coasters, postcards, lunch box…) if anyone is interested. This is the first Nerd Block shirt that I will wear!

I would love to get that t-shirt for my husband if someone is looking to swap!!! Large would be first choice, medium would work too.

I really loved this month’s box. I wasn’t so sure after lastonth’s box and was going to cancel but the theme kept me in. When they mentioned “monster factory” I thought the My Brother, My Brother and Me” guys actually had a monster factory plush and I was like – I have to get that for my husband!!! So, I was wrong but the box was still awesome. I love all the items except the sad coasters which will be worth maybe 2 uses.

That lunch box and the Loot Crate apron this month are easily the two greatest geek-box items ever. Unfortunately, the rest of the boxes were lame.
