Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - theme

This month's theme is Dragons! There's only one thing to say about dragons: COOL!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - info

This is the information card that details everything included. On the right is a little dragon finger pal - he wraps around your child's finger and wiggles! My seven-year-old son loved this!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - snack

Kettle Brand Potato Chips, Backyard Barbecue - Value $1.59

When I saw these chips and thought about the theme, the first thing I thought was DRAGON BREATH. And sure enough, the info card says the same! Too funny! But they are actually pretty tasty, and from what I understand, kettle cooked chips are a little healthier than regular. The link is for a full-size bag, they sent a snack size (1.5 oz), and the value is from my local grocery store.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - book

A Poor Excuse for a Dragon (Step into Reading) by Geoffrey Hayes - Value $3.99 on Amazon

This book is perfect for my son's reading level, and it got great reviews on Amazon!

"Fred the dragon has a list of tasks he must complete in order to be a successful dragonónone of which comes naturally. But he's determined to make #5óeat peopleówork. Before you can say "pass the salt" he's gobbled up three people even though he doesn't have the stomach for it. Luckily a local shepherd, with the help of a giant and a witch, knows how to cure what ails him and get those pesky people out of his belly. It's happily-ever-after for everyone in ways you'd never expect."

A Dragon's Life Sticker Book - Value $2.98

My sons both go nuts over stickers, and there are no stickers cooler than dragon stickers.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - dragon-supplies

Surprise Ride generally sends two crafts every month. Our first craft this month was to make a dragon photo holder! Fun! These are the supplies that were included. They sent everything we needed!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - dragon

This is my seven-year-old's completed dragon photo holder. I love him, but only because he looks so sad. The first step of the instructions was to marble the clay for the head, which my son got really into, as well as the clay for the body. But then the instructions just kind of said "be creative," and my son got annoyed with how sticky the clay was and sort of smashed it all together and shoved the photo holder stick in it. He was also upset that he couldn't make wings that would hold their shape. I love the little sad dragon, but I think some additional instructions would have been really helpful. Especially after they sent us all these primo supplies to make it!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - catapult-supplies

The second craft was a fire catapult! Again, they sent everything we needed.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - catapult

This, on the other hand, turned out great and worked perfectly! On the left is the catapult, and on the right is the cup of balls. In the picture of the supplies above, there is a dragon print that you can cut the hole out of and try to shoot the balls through the hole, or you can just try to get them in the cup. It's not easy!

This totally reminded me of when my son was five and he asked me if you have to jump through a ring of fire to get your driver's license! Hahaha!

The Verdict: We are totally loving Surprise Ride; it's a fabulous subscription. There's a lot included for a very reasonable price! Everything is age appropriate and usually pretty well curated around the theme. This month one of the crafts wasn't my son's cup of tea, but that's going to happen from time to time. I think another child that was more into modeling clay could have made an amazing dragon. Otherwise we loved this month!
