My trial arrived yesterday, and I was less than impressed with the packaging! There are no seals on any of the products, and the box was closed with a sticker, not tape. It had completely unsealed in route.

I emailed customer service, and they’re sending a replacement trial – I expressed my concern at not being able to tell whether or not it had been tampered with.

I don’t think I’d use many of the products they have available so I won’t be subscribing, but that little bag is super cute! If it comes with the products, is anyone open to swapping it? I’d love to get one!

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a beauty bundle. I got a $20 credit for being an honest member. I just got it and they threw in a free lip gloss too. I tried some of the items. The mascara is wonderful. It is non-clumpy and easy to apply. It doesn’t give that dramatic look though so if your looking for that you want like it. It lengthens nicely and curls in my opinion. The sheer lip has a slight fruit smell to it but is not overpowering or sticky. I found the foundation is more of a powder based formula. The tinted moisturizer doesn’t seem heavy. Reminds me of a light foundation. The beyond protected moisturizer is very luminous and light. Anywho hope this helps. I am sure Liz will do a much better job reviewing than I did!

Thanks for letting us know about the makeup – I’m still waiting for my box to ship! So happy to hear the mascara is great! 🙂

I emailed them about the TM in the trial, and this is the response:
“In the trial, if you choose the Tinted, it comes in Sheer. It doesn’t really have too much of a color, just provides a pretty sheer look to the skin. ”

They also sent me a $20 Honest Beauty GC because of being an Honest customer, and I bought the concealer, but even though I ordered both at the same time, they won’t ship both together and the shipping for both was over $13.00. Cheap enough, I suppose, but they could easily combine the items into one box, which is more environmentally friendly as well.

I actually called to cancel any further shipments of the skincare today . I can always reorder if I love it, and I don’t have the 7 days hanging over my head.

And finally, a note regarding the lawsuits- neither the sunscreen nor the bug spray work. I found this out the hard way on a recent camping trip.

I love honest products but I’m quite skeptical about the make up. First of all, I can’t see myself needing three make up products, full-size, every month. I really don’t think I would need every eight weeks . $50 a month is more than $15 per product Additionally, it doesn’t seem as if there is much variety in the color palettes

I agree that I’m a bit skeptical, but I’m still gonna try it 🙂 plus, keep in mind, you can adjust the delivery date for however frequent you want. I’m going to subscribe, exchange any products or colors I don’t like, and then adjust it to probably once every 3 months. $50 every 3 months seems more reasonable to me. That’s the plan anyway.. Crossing my fingers they’re good products because I’m not a fan of all of the chemicals that are in everything I’m using now..

Not a fan of those “gotcha” free trials. You can cancel and still get charged.

I signed up one of honest’s trials (shipping and handling costs only- about $5) and spent an hour on the phone trying to cancel; once I finally got someone, the woman wouldn’t let me cancel. Kept trying to offer me discounts, etc. Won’t go through that again.

I’m curious on the cream blush, the luminizing powder and the tinted moisturizer. But I’ll wait for reviews before buying anything

I ordered the trial and a bundle of the sheer lip stick, crème blush and the everything cream foundation. I’ll report back…
If it goes well, my next bundle will be the mascara, brow stick and one of the eyeshadows.

I’ll be holding off on this…. with the news of The Honest Company is being sued for a 3rd time….. eh i just wanna wait and see

Can someone please kindly post the details about the issues with the company, what are the questionable ingredients they use?

Reply ButtonReply

Caroline

Last week, People reported the company has been slapped with a $5 million lawsuit. The suit, brought by consumer Jonathan D. Rubin, claims that some Honest products contain “unnatural” and “synthetic” ingredients and that the company’s sunscreen is “ineffective,” according to People. This comes just a month or so after some consumers took to social media to share photographs of sunburns that they claim occurred while using Honest’s sunscreen.
It seems people are claiming she says no synthetic no parabens but there may be? Also sunscreen ineffective. Alba is currently fighting saying all allegations are false

Joy

I agree. Passing for now with the sunscreen potential issues.

I agree, Honest seems quite Dishonest in their marketing. They charge a prime for products that are not natural, and often contain parabens.

Just read this in an interview Alba did.

“The word “natural” actually has no concrete definition in the beauty world, so I had to ask Alba for her own personal definition of the word. “Natural means so many different things,” Alba told Yahoo Beauty. “Like loving my kids is something that’s very natural to me as a mom! It just means different things for different people.” “”

JillA

Yes, which of their products contain parabens? Can you provide a link? Thanks.

Liz Cadman

I just checked their site, and here is a statement on the ingredients they never include. Hope it helps:

Our products are made without any questionable ingredients, such as parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde carriers, PEGs, MCI/MI, steareth-n, synthetic fragrances, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, petrolatum, mineral oil, SLS, SLES, sulfates and chemical sunscreens.

HL

Which specific products contain parabens?

Flubs

OMG, what?!?!

Reviews on any of the sunscreen moisturizers would be great. It looks like they increased the zinc oxide back to near 20%, I am wondering if it still applies well?

Hey Liz! A review of their mascara duo and the lip gloss and sticks would be great. I’ve been meaning to email you…I remember you said you didn’t care for the honest dryer clothes. My friend sells Norwex (I’m not doing a sales pitch) and I just ordered the all natural 100% wool dryer balls and they really work! You might really like them. No chemicals..plus you can add a few drops of essential oils to them to make your clothes smell good. Just thought I would tell you about them they have really helped my husbands sensitive skin.

I got the wool dryer balls from Globe In and I have to say, they do work, though perhaps not quite as well as dryer sheets. On the plus side, though, I don’t have used dryer sheets floating around my house. On the minus side, members of my family keep taking the dryer balls out of the dryer with their clothes and I keep having to tear apart the house to find them.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I try to make sure the 3 balls are in the dryer after I’m done taking clothes out so I know if I need to look through the basket of clothes to find one… but somehow the other day I was missing one and was driving myself completely nuts crawling around everywhere looking for where the thing could have possibly rolled off to (I had already went through the basket of clothes 2-3 times). Then my son takes a shower and grabs the towel off the hook and asked me what the random white ball was. How it ended up stuck in a towel that was hanging up is beyond me, but I was just glad to find it.

Loba

I kind of want reviews on anything with sunscreen in it. I use SPF moisturizers on my face and would hate to use a product that actually didn’t have a working sunscreen in it. (But I feel horrible asking this because I think we all should wear sunscreen and don’t want someone to burn for “science” ).

As a woman of color I also wonder how forgiving the shades are. But no one person will be able to check that. Thus is when stores like Sephora are awesome. Nothing beats trying it on your own skin.

I am debating this one. I currently subscribe to the diaper bundle and have had a couple of issues that are making me debate that bundle. I don’t know if I can keep throwing lots of money at the Honest Company…

I did the trial, but it didn’t let you select a skin tone for the tinted moisturizer. Bummer, because I just know that it will be for light skin tones. :/
