A few times a year, ModCloth launches their "Stylish Surprise" - mystery items at a deep discount (you get to pick the category and size).
Here were the categories and prices this time:
FYI - this is completely sold out, but make sure to sign up for notifications at the end of this post to get an email alert the next time the Stylish Surprise is available!
Shipping is free on orders of $75 or more, so I decided to get 3 shoes, 2 apparel pieces and 1 dress = $80.
Here are the items:
Doe & Rae Blouse - Value $35?
(100% Polyester)
I found similar Doe & Rae blouses on ModCloth for $35-$40, so I'm estimating $35 for the value. I love this top! It's slightly sheer, so I'll have to layer a cami underneath, but I think it's so classic and modern with the collar design:
Doe & Rae Top - Value $35?
(100% Cotton)
Another black and white Doe & Rae top! This one isn't as much of a hit with me - only because I feel like I can't pull off a peter pan collar in most instances. The collar detail work is a little fuzzy too:
Poema Maxi Dress - Value $50?
(100% Polyester)
A black maxi? And one that has floral detail so that it is different enough from the other 10+ black maxis I own?! Yes!
Here is a better look at the detail:
It is a little baggy at the waist, but I'm hoping that putting it through the laundry will shrink it a bit.
Now onto the shoes:
One thing that makes the Stylish Surprise Shoes category a little tricky for me is that I'm usually a size 9 in flats but an 8.5 in heels. (Is anyone else two different shoe sizes depending on the heel situation? I may be the only one!)
Machi Heels - Value $39.99
(Value based on other Machi Heels). These have a cute retro vibe that I like, but just isn't my personal style.
I really wish I loved them enough to wear them all the time and need a backup pair, because ModCloth sent me two identical pairs!
Fortunately, ModCloth will refund you if they do this - just contact customer care.
Now the last item:
Naughty Monkey Sandals - Retail Value $60, On Sale for $24
(Leather upper. Man-made lining and sole)
I don't need summer sandals now, but I'll definitely wear these next year.
Verdict: I paid $80 and out of the 6 items I received, 3 were hits. That's an OK success rate for a mystery box. Assuming ModCloth refunds me $10 for the pair of duplicate shoes I received, that's 3 successful items for $70 - or $23.33 a piece. Not bad (not great, but not bad). I'll probably still try my luck at Stylish Surprise next time!
What did you get from the Modcloth Stylish Surprise this time? Was your luck better than mine?
