Nerd Block Welcome Box Review + Coupon - box

Nerd Block
3.3 overall rating

Nerd Block has recently started sending out a Welcome Block, when you sign up for any block, to get your collection started. It's a nice addition to get something immediately when signing up instead of waiting up to a month for your first shipment.

It's important to note that each Welcome Block will have different items - this is what I've received.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Nerd Block Welcome Box Review + Coupon - card back

It includes a welcome card explaining each box and it's theme. I think this Welcome Block, and this card, is very helpful now that you can switch blocks - it's a nice introduction to the Nerd Block family.

Nerd Block Welcome Box Review + Coupon - Doctor Who Titan

Doctor Who Titan Figure – Value $10-15

We received this in the June 2015 Nerd Block - I was expecting a high value item in a $20 value box, so this is a nice surprise.

Nerd Block Welcome Box Review + Coupon - Ghostbusters Wallet and COEXIST Sticker

Ghostbusters Wallet – Value $5-10?

We received this wallet in the July 2015 Nerd Block - it was one of my favorites from that month!

COEXIST bumper sticker – Value $4?

This COEXIST video game console sticker was from the June 2015 Arcade Block.

Nerd Block Welcome Box Review + Coupon - Monty Python Magnets and Cliccors

Monty Magnets – Value $10

These were another favorite for me from the June 2015 Nerd Block!

Cliccors - Value $2?

These first appeared in the February 2015 Nerd Block. Like Stress Balls, I use these things all the time while I'm working.

Verdict: The value of this block comes in over $30 - which is awesome since they're advertising a $20 value. I looked at the Welcome Block as a win-in for Nerd Block and the Subscriber. It's a nice intro into the family, while allowing you to learn about all of their block offerings. This is a first for the geek box category, and I think it's a nice perk for sure!

Have you received a Welcome Block - how does it stack up to mine? What did you think of the Welcome Block?

Got my welcome block today. Maybe they ran out our were just lazy, but we didn’t get a welcome card in its :-/ I would really have liked a Doctor Who Titan figure, but what we got was a Ghostbusters Titan Ecto-1, which is pretty cool. The Cliccors and the Ghostbusters wallet are the same as what I got, but then we got these super creepy/gross horror face coasters and a CD of arcade/video game music. I will have to swap the coasters at some point, horror is not my thing, and with 3 little kids running around they aren’t really appropriate anyway.

Hi Sam,

I have the Dr. Who figure from the welcome block. I have no use for it and it’s still in the box. Let me know if you would like me to send it your way. My email is dsatriano12608 at gmail dot com 🙂

Debbie, Wow, that would be great! My son will be so excited 🙂 I will email you later, maybe I have something you’d like to trade for?!

I’m getting kind of annoyed with Nerd Block, actually. I hate how they email me every day telling me I have X days left to subscribe to this month’s box when I’ve already paid for this month’s box. I get LESS excited for it every time they email.

I was surprised to see a tracking number for a welcome box. I used my account to sign back up for the Zelda box and received a tracking number for the welcome box a few days later. This post will be about a week old by the time I get it. I am curious what will be in it.

I got all of the same items about a week ago. I was hoping for that treasure chest keychain, but I was happy enough. I also signed up for nerdblock junior girls and got a junior welcome box too, but it was pretty lame. Super looking forward to the Zelda box this month.

This is the exact same welcome box I received. Unfortunately I don’t know anything about Dr. Who, but I though it was a nice figure to have in a free box.

My welcome box was nowhere near as cool as this one. I got the Saul Goodman Titan, which would compare to the Dr. Who (but I don’t think Saul is much of a “nerd” item), and the coexist sticker, but then I got random coasters (Overlook Motel? They just had patterns), poor quality elf ears, & a treasure chest keychain. I was so disappointed that I canceled my subscription immediately.

Maybe they sent subscription reviewers a nicer box? It felt like I was tricked for mine, personally.

The coasters are a reference to the Overlook Hotel from the movie The Shining. I personally have those and like them, but I’m a huge fan of the book and the movie so I’m biased lol.

Kristy

I wonder if you can get the welcome box and then cancel the subscription?

That seems dishonest to me. I can tell you I was billed first, so they might do that to prevent the type of situation you’re suggesting.

You can get both the Welcome Box – AND a discount, if you purchase more than one sub block.

Rowsdower

You can also sub for three months (10% discount) and get the welcome box. 🙂 That’s what I did, but I don’t think it matters since I’m not interested in the items I got. I subbed to Horror Block. Not one horror item in this.

For anyone reading the review: It’s either the 10% discount OR the welcome box. They don’t let you do both. I got the same Dr. Who figure and Cliccors package. Everything else was different and I was underwhelmed. I would’ve rather gotten your box. The only thing I think I’ll keep is a magnet because it looks cool (I’ve never seen G of the G). Everything else is up for swap: nommies blind 3 pk, phone joystick, dr. who, and cliccors. Click on my name to get to my swap profile page. Maybe I should start watching Dr. Who…

Amy

I got the same exact box as you! Totally underwhelmed as well, since I swapped all of my items away already (except for the joystick). At least I was able to trade them for items that I actually wanted on here! 😀

I meant: as lucky as Amy to be able to swap the stuff for something I really want…. like the Beetlejuice shirt lol!

Rowsdower

Fingers crossed I could be as lucky! 🙂

My reply to SciFiChick was deleted? I basically said I didn’t like that there’s not a horror item since I subbed to Horror Block. I should also note that my bank charged me an additional $2.47 (international fees) on top of the $82.47 I paid for a 3 month sub.
