Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask - Value $64

(Good to know for swaps - sealed with foil).

Normally if a mask takes more than 10 minutes, I'm not in a rush to try it. This one takes 15-30 minutes, but as soon as I opened it up and smelled it, I had to try it! I can't place exactly what the scent reminds me of, but it is a clean/refreshing/natural scent.

With this mask, you apply a thin layer, and it somewhat dries when you leave it on. (It is not the type of drying mask that you can feel tightening your skin).

It felt very gentle/refreshing when on, and then to remove it, I used a damp washcloth in circular motions to get the benefits of the exfoliant as well. My skin felt very soft and smooth after removing it, but my skin was also a little red for 20+ minutes after I took the mask off. The formula is made with natural and organic ingredients, (and nothing I noticed as a red flag), so I'm not sure what caused my skin to react that way!

boxycharm-october-2015-mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizing Mascara - Value $24

This mascara has a seriously big brush/wand. I wasn't a huge fan since it made it more difficult to get the mascara right on the lash line. The formula is pretty good - it added length and volume without any clumping. The volume and length wasn't as good as my tarte mascara though, so I'd give this one a B grade.

(FYI - this item is a variant for the October box. Subscribers will either receive this mascara or:  Vincent Longo Trio ShadowCargo Cosmetics Blush or Beauty For Real Lip Creme).

Lord and Berry Line Shade Eyeliner in Dark Black - Value $18

Black eyeliners aren't the most exciting thing to get a subscription box, but this one does its job! It goes on smoothly and stays put (with primer). (Swatched below).

boxycharm-october-2015-cult

Bellapierre Cheek and Lip Stain in Coral - Value $20

(The info card does not specify color, so subscribers may receive the pink variant as well).

This stain works best for me as a cheek stain. (The coloring isn't what I want in a lip stain). I found it pretty easy to blend, and the formula is highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way. (Swatched below).

Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish in Boneyards - Value $12

I love a good neutral nail polish, and the boneyards color is perfect for Halloween!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $138! I don't know how Boxycharm delivers such amazing value boxes each month, but I'm always impressed! I like the mix of makeup, skincare and nail polish this month too.

What do you think of the October Boxycharm box? (FYI - if you want to start your Boxycharm subscription with this box, you have until October 31st to sign up!)

For anyone who’s tried the mask, how long did you leave it on for? If you had a reaction did it burn at first or after the mask was removed? I plan on trying it on a small portion on my face for 15mins. I’m afraid to use it and I don’t even have sensitive skin.

Ugh I got the mascara. Like I need another one to add to the 65 I already have. Come on Boxy, you just sent that other one out not too long ago and I wasn’t a fan of that either. The black eyeliner..meh.

I actually really liked this mascara. It gives me tons of volume. I do put it on over a lengthening one, but I liked it 🙂

My eye shadow arrived broken. Not happy about that at all because that is the one thing I wanted from this box. Boxycharm said they will make sure I receive another one in my next box but can’t guarantee the same shade or style. So we shall see if they send a replacement.

I really liked this months box. I loved the mask and had no issues at all with burning and/or redness. I have 3 adult daughters so black eyeliner and mascara is always welcome. I admit I’m tired of nail polishes, but I’d rather have a polish than another perfume sample. And while Bellepierre is common in sub boxes (I subscribe to 15 of them–yikes!) I actually like most of their stuff.
BoxyCharm, GlossyBox, and PopSugar are my favorites.

Something is up with this face mask. I was dying to try it on, mind you I do not have sensitive skin whatsoever, and it left pats of my face Reddit hours. I did leave it on for 30 mins as per the package. I’ve never ever turn red to anything I’ve ever used on my face and now I’m curious as to what it could be.

Sarah

Please, *please* be aware that you could have a serious reaction to this month’s face mask. I only left it on for 7 or so minutes, and while washing it off, noticed that my face felt hot.

After washing it off, I could feel my face COOKING. I rinsed it for a solid 10 minutes, and it continued to burn. I am still currently the color of a beet. The only thing that stopped the burning was using baking soda and water on cotton rounds, and leaving it to neutralize the acids (HOW MANY ACIDS DO THEY REALLY NEED TO PUT IN A MASK? This one had multiple acids) for several minutes. My skin is dry now, but at least it isn’t severely burned.

This is part of the reason I cancelled my boxes. If you have sensitive skin in any way, you shouldn’t be using a mystery bag of crap products on your face every day.

Apologies if this comes off as rude, but I am a bit upset about this mask.

Another black liner? Now I wouldn’t mind another liquid liner but as of now, I have more than enough black liners.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Agreed. A black pencil liner, nothing to get excited about.

So happy I didn’t order this but I don’t hate the selection. The only thing I see here that I would’ve used is the polish although I have a Julep polish in a very similar shade. Don’t see how any of this stuff relates to the moon lol.

Bellapieree, Doucee and Ofra are so overdone in beauty subs! I am so tired of getting them, they are okay but not the best. These subscriptions must get a great deal on these brands. Also they feel overpriced to me, I saw Bellapierre at a discount store around me once so I guess that’s why.

Nothing looks super exciting. I have enough masks that I fear I’ll never use them up. As far as black eyeliners and mascara goes, I think I might have to list them in my Will. I have tons of nail polish (although I can always use more). Blushes are hit and miss for me.

Loved everything but the lip/cheek stain. BoxyCharm is my favorite sub!!

Amber

The mask looks so nice (i dont have any skin issues so it probably wont make me red), and the polish. I hate that cheek lip stain. its the worst quality item ive ever gotten, and the packaging is ridonk. The product itself is so thick, why wouldnt you put it into a stick applicator? I will be adding the eyeliner to my sisters christmas present, because black eyeliner is the most boring thing on earth. The nail polish looks beautiful, something ill def wear a lot this season, and into winter. My variant item is the lipstick, which im not sure how i feel about it. I just hope its not red. I hate red lipsticks, theyre rarely ever a good color for me.

I’m getting the same box with the mascara. I think I am allergic to some of the ingredients (parabens) in the mascara and liner but maybe the others will be good. I signed up just for the mask though so hopefully it works for me!

I really want the face mask ! It’s so tempting to buy this box but I only really want the mask, and maybe the nail polish, so I don’t think I’ll be buying it. Unfortunately it’s too expensive for me to trade for as well. This is the first box I have been interested in awhile though.

Hi Sarah, If you really want the mask & nail polish I’ll be happy to swap. I have way to many of both. Are you on the swap site?

Well, gang, after 8 mos with Boxy, I cancelled today. I do think it’s one of the better sub boxes out there, but… I’m tired of BellaPierre, Doucce, Lord & Berry, Ofra, Jing Ai, black eyeliners (ANY eyeliners!), mascaras, nail colors I’ll never use, etc. I tried to use my 1500 charms before leaving, but realized I didn’t want any of the products in their shop — even with the $15 discount! — which was really the wakeup call I needed.

I got waaaay into sub boxes in February and loved the experience because I adore surprises and beauty products. But after looking at my HUUUUGE pile of unopened makeup and skin products, I just realized it’s time to stop. I cancelled BB5, Beautyfix and Boxy because they were month-to-monthers. Ipsy is next to go. Then, I have to wait for my other subs to lapse because I prepaid for them. I’ll keep Allure because it’s my favorite, and possibly Birchbox for their points system and I still want to try Sephora Play when it rolls out here, as well as an occasional Target or Rachel Zoe Box of Style. But that’s more than enough. There are only so many beauty products one person can accumulate, lol. Anyone else suffering from Box Burnout too?

Omg yes I canceled birch box and glossybox and beauty joy which was terrible. I only have boxycharm and ipsy. I realized I was spending so much money and giving all of these things away to my friends and family to the point when they see me now they ask for stuff it’s ridiculous

That was me six months ago. Now I just have Birchbox, Fabfitfun, and Happy Mail. I’ll quit HM when my year is up. May add Popsugar if there’s a good Black Friday deal this year. Everything else I can apparently do without. The only downside of reducing subs is that I have a much harder time swapping now.

Sabrina

Yes! Like you, I’m so sick of the brands you listed, which in my opinion are total no-names and, at this point, they are no longer “discoveries” since every single box includes them. Is there a single sub box subscriber who doesn’t have the Bellapierre lip and cheek stain? I’ve cancelled everything except Birchbox because I think that’s the only one that I’ve genuinely “discovered” products that I truly love and have become must haves in my beauty routine (i.e. Oribe dry texturizing spray). I feel like my money is much better spent on things I genuinely want than on these boxes which are very hit or miss. They’re definitely fun but I just can’t justify the cost for the build up of products I’ll never get around to using, especially when they repeat the same brands over and over and OVER!

is the nail polish similar to the color from pop sugars fall box? I’m hoping it will be a little lighter, but can’t tell from the picture.

Reply ButtonReply

Marcy

Perfect timing! Was getting my box out of the mail when your review came in 🙂 Loved everything but am too afraid to use that mask on my sensitive skin (eek!) that will be donated!! Thanks for the great recap.

Reply ButtonReply

Lucy

Do not try it! I don’t even have sensitive skin and it left me with red patches all over my face.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Marcy, I’d love to swap for the mask, if you’re interested! I just cancelled my own Boxy sub, and this is the one item I want from the October box.

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

I received the Doucce mascara in another subscription box, and I think it’s terrible! It’s the only mascara I’ve tried recently that absolutely 100% gave me raccoon eyes every single time I wore it. With primer, or without, within hours I’d have those dreaded dark circles. Ugh.

Everything else in this box looks nice!

Joy

Did anyone get the Cargo blush? There are hundreds of photos of this box on social media but I can’t find a single one with the blush.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

Nope! I was hoping to get it too! Thankfully I really like the gloss/stain so I’m not too disappointed.
