The Match Up is a new subscription box from eSalon. Each month you get to pick out three full-size items or they will match you up with their products based on your haircare needs.

I had sampled their leave-in conditioner thanks to another subscription box, and I was a fan, so I had to sign up for this one!

eSalon Heart Lock It Color Safe Shampoo - Value $15

This shampoo is paraben and sulfate free. I always look for sulfate free hair products since my hair is color treated, and I like that they have a line specifically that is color safe. This scent is nice (a floral/tropical blend), and the formula seems great too. I struggled to get the pump to work at first, though. Quick tip - pull it up first! (Also good to know - eSalon does a great job of packaging their hair products to prevent spills in shipment!)

eSalon Get Lifted Root Lift Spray - Value $15

This is a super lightweight spray. It doesn't add any crunch or heaviness like some volume products do, and it smells so good! (If you like the Beauty Protector scent, you'll like this one). I didn't notice a lot of volume after spraying it and blow drying my hair, but I'm thinking I may not have used enough.

eSalon Medium Round Brush - Value $21

Of course, I had to add the most expensive item to my bundle! (I have the same strategy with my Honest Essentials subscription - even if I don't really need the item). This brush has a 1.5" ceramic barrel designed to heat up and maintains heat while styling. I think it's a quality brush for the price too.

Verdict: I paid about $20 for this box (50% off first box plus $4.95 shipping), and I'm very happy with the products for that price. At the regular pricing ($30 a month plus $4.95 shipping), the cost works out to $11.65 an item. I think that's reasonable for full size hair care products, and I plan on continuing my subscription so I can try out more from their product line. (I also like that their products are paraben free!)

Fantastic deal. I signed up right away, their Tinted Love product is great. I often put it on dry hair at my roots and let it sit for like 15 minutes to stain them (they fade on me fastest) and then get into the shower, lather it up and let it stain the ends on the way out. It’s awesome. That’s “off label” but I am a redhead and that works best for me. I have the golden copper one for when I want to “do it right.” lol

I subscribe to eSalon’s hair coloring system and I’m very happy with their service. They can adjust the formula to your taste (I’ve had them change the color tint ratio). I think their products are great. I saw this box advertised in one of my color kits. I might get it in the future, though I don’t think I’d keep a continuing subscription. I really only use their shampoo and conditioner, both of which are wonderful, but those products usually last me a long time since I have short hair.

I signed up for their color service recently as well. I usually have it done professionally, and will randomly touch it up myself with the same formula she uses if there’s scheduling issues. I have run into occasional issues getting my shades at the state supply, where one of the colors will be sold out and need to be ordered, and sometimes it takes longer than normal to get so sometimes my hair magician will just send me home with the tubes and I reimburse it from the state supply (I have a license I just don’t work in the field.) But that’s gotten to be a hassle for both of us.

I’ve been intrigued by this company for a while, and having used the Tinted Love product mixed among my other depositing products off and on, I thought it was worth trying. I was VERY impressed. I sent photos, plus told them what the recipe for my professional blends in two lines were, and they were able to come incredibly close! They erred on the lighter side, which isn’t bad, but I was REALLY impressed. I only opted to use one of the two bottles, since I was experimenting, and mixed in my Olaplex, then did half of my head root-wise, then glazed all over. It looks awesome. I went in today and made notes for them on how I’d like to tweak it (make it a half level darker and a tiny bit more vibrant–redhead!) and I set my next delivery date for late next month, so that I have another box on hand.

Love it. For the less than price I spend to get my professional products, I got a prepared package send to me, with thoughtful details considered–gloves, glaze (ie a soapcap…) shampoo, a dye removal wipe…Well packaged and quickly delivered.

For best results using ceramic brushes, use your dryer to warm it up before putting brush to hair. Cuts frizzies and flyaways!

I couldn’t resist a half off deal so I decided to try it. I need some new hair products anyway. Hopefully I like them.
