CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 2

CurlKit
3.2 overall rating
14 Ratings | 7 Reviews

CurlKit is one of very few subscription services dedicated to hair care.  Mainly focused on the needs of curly hair, they provide a variety of quality products that can be hard to find in stores.  CurlKit also has an online shop where you can purchase products found in their subscription.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 6

Each box comes with a “CurlLife” pamphlet and a few product cards.  Our pamphlet is titled “Love Your Look”.  This month is another TakeOver from Creme of Nature, but from their “Straight From Eden” line of products.  Every month CurlLife includes a note from the Co-Founder, Heather Cummings; photos and descriptions of the products received; an article/interview of a Naturalista; and some sort of hair care tip/tutorial. This month’s featured Naturalista is Singer/Actress V. Bozeman.

CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 8

Tiffany - Deluxe Satin Sleep Cap in Black Extra Large - Value: $3.99

My bonus item this month!  I’m not sure if subscribers received anything other than a bonnett this month.  Let us know down below.  I like getting new bonnetts in subscription boxes.  I always lose them so it’s nice to have a back up.

CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 9

Creme of Nature Straight From Eden

Natural Oil-Infused Repairing Oil 5ml- Value: $1.00

This is listed as our 2nd bonus item, so I believe everyone received this in their box.  I’m not a fan of single “Not for Sale” samples like this.  With all the hair I have,  I need much more than this to see if I like it or not.  I wish we there were two or three of these.  On a good note, there’s a coupon for a Free Full Size bottle on the back!!  Awesome!  I’m going to throw this in my purse and pray that I can find it before my coupon expires in January 2016.  Fingers Crossed, I don’t usually have good luck finding newer products in my area.  I feel like Kentucky is always last on the list.  Cincinnati, Nashville and Indianapolis are not too far but somehow these cities will stock newer items months before us!

CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 10

Creme of Nature Straight From Eden

Natural Oil-Infused Hydrating Shampoo FULL SIZE- Value: $10.79

This shampoo is said to be gentle and made with coconut, and other natural oils to cleanse and detangle hair.  It smells nice.  I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this shampoo.  I’m a little bit confused on some of the ingredients listed.  I try not to be too snooty with my hair care ingredients, but when a product claims to be sulfate-free, but then see “sulfonate” listed...alarms automatically fire off.  Honestly, I want to watch a few video reviews before using this on myself or the kiddos.

Creme of Nature Straight From Eden

Natural Oil-Infused Hydrating Conditioner FULL SIZE - Value: $6.47

This conditioner is also infused with natural oils and is said to rehydrate the hair and can also be used as a deep conditioner.  There’s a billion ingredients here but nothing is popping out as weird to me.  I can definitely use this in the kiddos’ hair right before baths.

Creme of Nature Straight From Eden

Natural Oil-Infused Leave-In Conditioner FULL SIZE- Value: $10.99

This leave-in conditioning spray detangles, and protects hair.  It’s made with natural oils and has to be shaken before each use.  I’ve been using it all week in both my hair and the kids.  It seems to work much better in the kiddos looser curl pattern.  For me, it felt fine immediately after, but felt very dry at the end of the day.  This could be due to the cold weather.  I’m really not sure.

CurlKit Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 11

Verdict:  This month’s CurlKit had an estimated retail value of $33.50.  I received 4 full sized items and 1 freebie, but it’s worth even more if I can utilize the coupon!  I can’t say I’m very excited about this month’s box.   I’m seeing a pattern with hair products these past months with Creme of Nature popping up everywhere.  I’m of course happy to try new hair products, especially ones that I can’t find in my local stores.  I wish for once we could get a TakeOver from a brand that’s normally only found in boutiques or online only.

Are there any other boxes designed for curly hair?

I’m on the fence about renewing because I keep hoping they’ll get back to the old days of featuring small B.O.Bs that make products with care. This box wasn’t for me but thankfully I just gifted the products to my less “ingredient snob” fam. My aunt loved the oil, my mom liked the shampoo, and the conditioner kept my bf’s hair moisturized so no real complaints aside from not getting products I can use on myself lol.

I think next time they should get manufacture coupons (or at least a Target-specific one).

I am so happy that CurlKit is being reviewed! I enjoy reading your reviews, and how you incorporate your children’s hair, because I do that too with my son and daughter. We all have crazy curls, and I love stuff that works for the whole family. i agree this month was lacking, and the serum, was not at any Walmart near me so the coupon was worthless. I should be going to The city later this month, so I’ll check the major retailers out there just to try and get the full value of the box, otherwise it’s all a huge miss for me. Thank you Celicia for your reviews!

This was my first box with CurlKit. Got it with a Groupon but still disappointed. Cannot find this product in my area so the coupon is worthless. And the oil is the only thing I want. Will be cancelling before they bill for Dec.

I wasn’t that thrilled when I first received the October Curlkit. But I ended up loving the Creme of Nature Straight from Eden line. It makes my hair feel really soft and moisturized. I received the exact same products that you did. I had to go to a few different Walmarts before I found the oil. I got the last one on the shelf. The scent is very strong, but I like it.

I’m keeping an eye on it, but the value seems a little less than I’d expect for a $25 box. I also don’t use shampoo on my hair because it’s overly drying.

I joined after the awesome August Miss Jessie’s box, was pleased with the variety in the September box, and am very dissappointed in the October box. The value wasn’t there and the brand is a boring drugstore line. I’d like to see more cream cleansers and styling products and less shampoo. After 2 months I have more shampoo than I use in 6 months. I unsubscribed today.

This was my last box since I had cancelled bc I have enough product on hand for now and I wasn’t impressed with the September box. I was so glad this was my last box when I received it bc these products did not excite me and I felt the value was lower than normal. Then I saw these same bottles for sale at my local walgreens for 3.99 each two weeks ago.
