My record came wrapped in the lovely eco-friendly packaging with a note that hints at this month's selection. Fun!
My record this month is Kurt Vile's "b'lieve i'm goin down..." and I couldn't be happier with the selection! I love Kurt Vile! Isn't he pretty? It's actually pretty lucky I don't already have this one because it is currently on my Hot 10 list. His music is rocking and hazy, but not too hard or sludgy. Perfect!
It's also a double album! Double score!
Here's a look inside the album cover...
... and here's a look at the back.
In addition to the record, Spinbox sent this ephemera: a note about their eco-friendly packaging, two cards, and the ever important mp3 download code for this album. As much as I love vinyl, mp3's sure are handy to have!
The Verdict: I am absolutely over the moon with happiness about the album Spinbox selected for me! That being said, I have slightly mixed feelings about the service itself. I think based on the answers I gave to the quiz, it actually *is* lucky that I didn't have this album already. I am thrilled to have it now, but Spinbox might look for something more obscure, or ask if the subscriber is already a collector, etc. The other issue I have is the price. I understand that curation and shipping costs money, but this album is $21.23 on Amazon. So, unless I really needed help picking out records, I would probably not be happy about paying $12 more for this album. They should consider offering two records (or more) to cut down on shipping.
