GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

GlossyBox sent us this box early for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

glossybox-jan-2016-primer

Emite Makeup Diamond Heart Base Primer - FULL SIZE! Value $29

This primer is really full, so be careful opening it! The formula has a bit of a peach tint, but goes on sheer. I like it (but to be fair, pretty much all primers are good in my book!)

Royal Apothic Moisturizing Body Cream in Venetian Grove - 1.25 oz Value $4.70

(Scents will vary for subscribers. Good to know for swaps - inner foil seal).

I like the other Royal Apothic products I've sampled through boxes, so I was excited to try this one. The formula itself is lightweight and absorbs quickly, so A+ there! It is a little too fragranced for me, though. If you prefer lightly or non-scented items, I would recommend gifting/swapping this.

glossybox-jan-2016-417

-417 Foot Nourishing Cream - 1.7 oz Value $9

Wow - a foot cream that isn't minty scented! The formula is pretty lightweight for a foot cream, and I like the scent - it is light and refreshing!

Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse Gentle Clarifying Treatment – 2 oz? Value $1.50

This product is designed to help remove dulling product buildup and enhance shine. It’s free of parabens, phthalates, synthetic colors or fragrances, and it is color safe too. (Plus it smells like lemons!)

glossybox-jan-2016-lip

MeMeMe Lip Glide in Playful Peach - FULL SIZE! Value $12.50

This might be my favorite item in the box. It has a good amount of pigment but still goes on somewhat sheer. And the finish is matte BUT! the formula isn't drying! Here it is swatched:

glossybox-jan-2016-swatch

Verdict: This box has a value of about $56.70. I think that's a good value for a $21 box. I think they did a good mix of makeup, body, and hair care products this month too. (Plus I appreciate that the makeup items are both full size!)

I love the lemon rinse, I just ordered the full size from the company’s site. I wasn’t crazy over the body lotion or lip crayon.

Hey there Kristin,

I am so glad to hear you’re enjoying your GLOSSYBOX subscription!

One of my favorite tips for surviving the harsh winter weather: Use the Royal Apothic cream and -417 foot nourishing cream after the shower, to lock in the moisture your skin is lacking.

I have been receiving Glossybox since October and I have loved every single one. I think they do an amazing job of including a variety of products so that there is something for everyone and the value is great at $21 but even better at the discounted price through Gilt City. I have to say though that I love creams, lotions and anti-aging products of all types, so I love when those are included. This month I was excited to see so many European brands to try. When I started my annual subscription with the Gilt City discount, I canceled my monthly subscription. I did receive two boxes that month, but I kind of expected it because with this kind of operation once something is in production it probably takes 2-3 weeks to stop it, if that makes sense. Everything has to be packaged, labeled and ready to ship more than a day or two ahead of time. Anyway, I loved the box and didn’t mind getting two especially with one being such a great discount.

Hey

I brought the one year deal at glossy box via giltcity but the one year subscription offer is no longer available.
It says one and 6 months only on the glossy box website
Any advice?

Thanks

I got the same exact box as Liz’s except with Cutting Garden scent for the Royal Apothic creme. I love everything except the lip glide. I still love this box, 4 out 5 5 are winners in my book.

My favorite Glossybox in a long time! And an amazing thing – NO NAIL POLISH, YAY!! For the first time in a long time, I’ll use everything and don’t plan to swap anything away. Plus, I’m a lotion girl, so this one’s a good fit for me 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Danielle

Since the primer isn’t actually full size, my estimated value of the box is about $48.

I got the same box as Liz, except my body creme is a different scent (cutting garden). My favorite item is actually the clarifying treatment, even though I know it’s also the cheapest by far. I needed a new clarifier, so I’m excited to try this one.

I’m also excited to try the primer, even though I didn’t really need a new one. The body cream and foot cream are useful but kind of meh, and they seem so similar – I’m surprised they were both included in the same box.

I like the lip crayon’s formula because it isn’t drying, but I tend to prefer more opaque colors and don’t know if I’ll wear it much.

Overall, this is an ok box for me. I’ve had lots better, but I’ve also had a few worse.

I got the same box and the value is closer to $40. The primer is 1/2 oz, while the full size is 1.2 oz, so it has a value of around $12.50

I’m happy with the box, though. All stuff I’ll use except for the crayon – but that’s just because the color doesn’t work for me. It would work for my daughter, but she has too much stuff already.

Reply ButtonReply

Gabrielle

Hey Nana,

I suggest using the MEMEME lip glide to prime your lips, then finish off the look with a pink or red tinted gloss.

Sara

I got the same box today, never even got shipping notice. It just arrived! Agree that the primer isn’t full size and it and the Royal Apothic cream are leftovers from November’s UK Glossybox it looks like. But I’m excited to try the primer and I love the lotion. Cutting Garden smells amazing! The primer is still worth about $23, a fantastic box for only $8! It’s also kind of funny the lip glide is made in Poland and the foot cream made in Israel. I’m also excited to try the clarifying treatment, I’ve never tried one before. The only thing I’m not excited about is the lip glide, just because I don’t care for the color.

Hey there Sara,

We work with vendors all over the globe! If we do see a product is successful in one of our GLOSSYBOX counterparts, we reach out to the vendors to secure a spot in one of our boxes.

Hope this better clarifies!

Rebecca

Danielle, I got the same exact box as you did (same as Liz’s except with Cutting Garden scent for the Royal Apothic creme). I hesitated to try the lip crayon because that would ruin it for trades or giving it to someone, but I did it anyway and regretted it. It seems nice and smooth, just not a good color on me 🙁 It seems to be more of a summer color, so maybe if I have a tan it’ll look better.

This is the one beauty box that I would like to sub to, but it is so annoying that sales like Gilt City are only open to the US. I already have to pay extra for shipping to Canada – ok, I can understand that, shipping prices can be high… but why can’t I take advantage of a sale? That makes no sense.

Reply ButtonReply

JillA

Because Gilt City is a US based site? Why can’t I buy all my Enchanted polish from Nail Canada on the same day as the Canadians can???? Oh….maybe it’s a Canadian business….

Reply ButtonReply

mimi

It’s not only Canada. I live in Denver CO and Gilt City isn’t available to me, either.

Reply ButtonReply

nana

But you can chose any other city to buy the deal.

Kim

I guess I’m in the minority but I love Glossy Box. A hand cream and a foot cream isn’t an issue to me…..I can always use both and in winter my feet get really dry. I always get what Liz gets – just with the scent/colour variations. Sure sometimes I don’t like something but there is always someone to give it to. I actually save all the things I don’t like from sub boxes and donate to women’s shelters – believe me those women are very excited to get a lipstick or nail polish and it sure makes everything seem relative

Gabrielle

Hey there Kim,

Wow, we are excited about the wonderful things you have to say about GLOSSYBOX. We here at GLOSSYBOX appreciate that you take the time to review this month’s edition.

What a great and generous idea you have provided, regarding your products! I am sure you have brought a smile to many faces.

I was happy with this month’s Glossybox – I received the same items as Liz, in a different body lotion scent (Cutting Garden.) The lip pencil is convenient and easy to wear, I can never have enough lotion, and I love the lemon rinse. It seems to have helped with my dandruff. (I know. Gross. Winter. Sigh.) I like getting skin and hair care products – trying them without committing to buying an entire bottle.

This is exactly what I got 🙂 Haven’t tried any of it yet. Did get the hair stuff in a previous box and really liked it. Although I don’t use a lot of products on my hair (just shampoo and conditioner plus a masque), it really makes my hair smell good.

Hi ! I’ve had problems with dandruff and after years of trying lots of shampoos the netrogena t gel worked, and then I switched to an all natural shampoo. I was so excited to find something that worked so I figured I would share.

I am beyond annoyed with glossybox. I was charged for a january box, despite the fact that i cancellee last month and had the one year deal, which i started in january. This happened to me before, so i thought i made sure this didnt happen again, but still i am receiving 2 boxes and customer service is the worst. For the first time ever i am going to dispute the charge. Even though the gilt city deal was pretty good, i regret getting in bed with this company for a year. I have heard many people say they are shady, and honestly before this they were ok to me, but now unfortunately i see where they are coming from. Very disappointed:(

I got my box today and like others have said they have definitely been doing a lot of lotions lately. But I am really loving that foot cream, the smell is really nice and light… It reminds me of something but I can’t figure out what it is. So far the only thing I wouldn’t use is the lip product.

Reply ButtonReply

alyssabaylor

I was surprised to receive my box today, since it usually comes later in the month for me. I received the same contents as the reviewed box, but my Royal Apothic cream fragrance is “Cutting Garden,” which has a nice and light floral scent that is not very overpowering. I do not mind receiving body and foot cream because I will use them both quickly.

I will be giving the lip crayon to my sister who has a warmer complexion than I do. I am very fair skinned and the peach color on my lips washes me out. The texture is very smooth, so hopefully she’ll enjoy it more than I do.

I just got my box today and was surprised since I checked the night before last and it still said just “packed.” I did not know it shipped. I was pleased with this month. I am not really a hand cream lover (too lazy) so probably will save it for my future (PopSugar) Bingo party I want to have but the rest of the items were great. I realized I never get shampoos, hair care etc in my boxes so was really happy to get the lemon rinse.

Tabytha

I just received my January GlossyBox today and got the same stuff as Liz. Can’t even begin to explain how disappointed I am!!!! I activated my gilt voucher in December, never got it (it’s on his way now) and now my first box is full of creams that I specifically said I don’t use in the style quiz! What’s the point of having us take a quiz when they just give everyone pretty much the same stuff?

Reply ButtonReply

Gabrielle

Hello Tabytha and Donna,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve both been unsatisfied with some of the contents you received. I can certainly appreciate it must have been disappointing for you both to not be able to use some of the items inside. We try to cater to our customers beauty preferences, however, we are not able to completely personalize the box. Each month, we select an item for each category (nails, hair, skin, makeup, etc). Sometimes, we have to give all subscribers the same items (e.g. for this month, everyone will receive the same the Emite base primer and the MeMeMe lip glide).

Best,
Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

Donna

I never understood why they do that. I mean, I really dislike hair products, lip pencils, and mascaras due to allergies I use spesific mascara. I also, asked them not to send me thsoe thing. Yet, a box is almost guaranteed to have a hair product of a mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

Dea

Please correct the info! The Emite primer is NOT full size. It is only worth $12, not $29. The Royal Apothic is full size, and the price is $14. I got these five items. The box’s value is $48.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Dea the Royal Apothic is not Full Size either, I loved my lotion so much I went to BB & bought the full size one for 30.00 it’s the size of a large toothpaste. They have them in both scents. I bought the Garden one 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

I love Glossybox but the lotion we got I would say Deluxe size.

Barbie

This is really confusing about theses boxes (not just Glossybox).

They list the value of the full sized item, but you’re getting a smaller size than what’s listed. A lot of times, they don’t even list the size of the sample sent, so you really have no way of nailing down the exact value of the box. In the end, I’m left wondering if the price of the sub was at least equal to what was sent & usable.

Hoping I get this box, but last month I got a variation of Liz’s. Instead of the body scrub (which is what I REALLY wanted, I got the face mask.

But still, do I dare say, “For $8.75, totally worth it!” ha, ha, ha!

I got the same items. ..the Diamond Heart primer is only 15ml. I estimated the box value around $30. This is my farewell box and this kinda confirms why

I am another one who is waiting to redeem GiltCity voucher and undecided yet. I have read numerous customer service issues here, so Glossybox needs to step up this year to improve our experiences for sure. I know the deeply discounted GiltCity price will come up every review, but this box needs to look like $21 box, not compared to $10 boxes. I am not sure what other $21 beauty boxes are out there because I can only think of BoxyCharm which I think they constantly deliver over $100 worth of products. What Glossybox can do is use their European leverage to bring us more European brands that are new or hard to get, like this primer and lip pencil this month if values cannot be met. I am ok with the variation so long as everyone’s box is fair in values and variation (such as color or scent). It seems they send out the best variation to bloggers, so I will try not to have high hopes, especially with the voucher. I did a quick research and they sent out this primer and body cream back in November or December to the UK customers. In return they are receiving the light purple eye shadow (the Glossybox brand one) in January… interesting. And I think they send out variations in Europe as well.

That’s an interesting observation. That makes me wonder how long the items have been on the shelf.

I ordered LE Holiday box and Nuxe body oil had a sticker and behind the sticker, there was a sign “display only, not for sale” on the bottle. My bottle looked new. Maybe they got them for free as their total value was really high. Anyway, I did more research and found out that Glossybox was founded in Germany and currently have 10 locations; US, Canada and the rest of them are in Europe. I saw some reviews from Japan and Spain, but it looks like they ended their services there. Hope they revamp their services/products so that some of us will continue at full price. I think we all want them to do well.

Margaret

I have gotten 2 Glossyboxes so far and I agree, they are not particularly exciting but I do use most of the items. The Gilt deal for $8.75 a box makes the value seem very good to me. $21/month is way too much for what you get, in my opinion, and that is why I cancelled my Boxycharm subscription. The Glossybox brand eyeshadow I got last month is AWFUL though, terrible pigmentation and doesn’t last on my lids at all.

Reply ButtonReply

Z

I redeemed my point and got for December and waited until end of the year to use my voucher for the next 12 months. I got an email notification saying my box was shipped sometimes last week and I got the box. It was December box. I was thrilled that my box was shipped, I thought I was going to get early now. But nope. My 1st December box doesn’t even have the items from the card they put in but for redeemed points items from web are for the items that wasn’t in the box. So confusing. 2nd December box got eye mask I got in my November box. I ended up with 2 November boxes since I redeemed for points and I got voucher when using for holiday box and instead of giving me for later and canceling for points redemption they sent me 2 same boxes. It was a bit of waste. Now, I don’t know they started counting for my 12 months starting with December but I didn’t redeem my code till end of the year. Is anyone else have same issues as I am? Or just me. I swear they probably are sick of hearing from me. Every months something is not right.
