This month's theme is "Smile!" and it's all about teeth!
This is the information card that details everything included.
For starters, Surprise Ride sent us this sample pack of Inspired Sweets from Dr. John's. They are made with natural American birch xylitol instead of sugar, so no worries about tooth decay here! I usually list the value of the snack, but in this case it's a sample pack of several of the Dr. John's candies, so the value is not listed on their site.
What if You Had Animal Teeth? by Sandra Markle - Value $3.99 on Amazon
One of my favorite things about Surprise Ride is that they always send a book for the kids! This book got got 5 stars - very promising. From Amazon:
"WHAT IF YOU HAD ANIMAL TEETH? takes children on a fun, informative, and imaginative journey as they explore what it would be like if their own front teeth were replaced by those of a different animal. Featuring a dozen animals (beaver, great white shark, narwhal, elephant, rattlesnake, naked mole rat, hippopotamus, crocodile, and more), this book explores how different teeth are especially adapted for an animal's survival. At the end of the book, children will discover why their own teeth are just right for them. And they'll also get a friendly reminder to take good care of their teeth, because they're the only teeth they'll ever have. Each spread features a photograph of the animal using its specialized teeth on the left and a humorous illustrated image of a child using that animal's teeth on the right."
I have to apologize here - I took the pictures without fully understanding what everything was to be used for, so the items aren't grouped as usual. On the left is a jar that was used in the first project. The wind-up chattering teeth on the right is Surprise Ride's included toy for the month. These are a classic! My son was totally delighted!
One of our two crafts this month was to splatter paint a toothbrush holder. What a cool idea! These are the supplies that were included EXCEPT the jar from the previous picture. ALSO, the little dentist mirror on the far right is not a supply, it's for playing. Sorry! Anyway, they included everything we needed for this project.
Here's my son's completed toothbrush holder. Very cute! The splatter painting didn't work out very well, so he made up his own technique of brushing the paint on with a toothbrush as if he were brushing a giant tooth. We put this to use right away!
The second project was to make our own homemade toothpaste! I've never done this before! These are the supplies that were included, and we didn't have to include anything from home.
Here's our completed toothpaste. We tried it lastnight and it works great! Plus it tastes a lot better than just using plain baking soda. We simply mixed together baking soda, peppermint powder, and glycerin, then spooned it into the tube.
Verdict: We are big fans of Surprise Ride! I like that you really never know what the theme is going to be every month, and they really do choose complete surprises! The crafts are usually fun, and I love that they include a book, a snack, and a little toy or two every month to support the theme.
